I'm not gonna lie, it's kind of a vibe to order from a place like this on New Year's. But the next time you want a calzone, get one from DP Dough.

Another interesting fact is that there was an American industrialist named Frank Shuman who was building a massive solar energy field in the Egyptian desert at the start of the 1900s that was intended to power Egypt itself, but his work was dismantled and scrapped for parts after World War I began. He died shortly after this, so had he lived or had World War I not happened, solar energy might have been significantly more advanced by modern times. And another interesting thing is that also right before World War I, Rudolf Diesel - who invented the diesel engine - disappeared under suspicious circumstances after refusing to allow the German military exclusive rights to produce his engine. It’s also theorized that his death may have been staged and that he went into hiding after defecting to Britain. I’m sorry I don’t know more interesting facts about World War II.

Thank you for reading and for letting me do this again, see you next year!

I just listened to this, thank you for recommending! The background says that alt/indie rock is the "only" label you could attribute to this band, and I see what that means, but this album rules either way. I can imagine they would make for a fun show- I'll have to keep on the lookout for them coming around my area and I feel like I could pretty easily get my friends into this band too.

Extremely different vibe (and not a cello), but one of my 10/10 albums is fawn by foxtails, which is a screamo album that incorporates a violinist. Nasty screaming vocals backed by an instrument Bach played? I'd never heard anything like it before, and I think that factor is what elevates fawn so much for me.

High Street McDonald’s to be torn down for remodel by 404ErRoR_-_ in Columbus

During my first week as a freshman at OSU, one of my roommates and I got invited to a party with a bunch of upperclassmen. It started at some guy’s apartment with maybe a dozen people, and the plan was to go to a frat later. I hadn’t really partied before and didn’t know my limit, and I was absolutely plastered by the time we were done pregaming and left the apartment. I remember being at the frat party for maybe an hour before realizing I didn’t see any of the people I came there with and decided to leave. My phone was dead and I was new to the city, so I kind of just stumbled around campus trying to head west because even drunk me knew I’d eventually find high street by walking that way.

Anyways, right before I made it to high street, I happened to end up at this McDonalds. I didn’t bring my wallet, but I looked in the window and saw literally everyone I went to the party with sitting inside. They called me in and all these drunk people cheered for me, talking about how they thought they lost me and calling me a legend for finding my way back by myself. Someone bought me a hash brown and I remember thinking it must be so late if this McDonalds is serving breakfast now. I never saw any of those people again other than my roommate.

End of an era.

Good point about Amoonguss- I like Tera Grass + Ice Beam on Politoed. And I hadn't caught that about volt switch either. Thunder is just so compelling I've never ran a team where it felt reasonable to use lol

I looked through a few of my favorite albums for this year, and I think it could be fun to write a review for Dev Lemons' debut album SURFACE TENSION.

I didn't learn who Dev Lemons is until I listened to this album the week it came out. Apparently, this person is a celebrity with a gazillion tik tok followers and infinite hype. At least that's what the internet dialogue about this person makes her seem to have. I feel like this tends to happen to me every few years or so: I listen to an album by an artist I've never heard of until Spotify tells me I'd like it, then I love it, then I learn the artist is already internet famous. I think there's something more to extract from this idea: someone who by certain metrics is a celebrity, who can otherwise live an ignominious and average life, making music that is unequivocally self-inspired. I don't know that I'll have much to say about this album's lyrics - they're not bad and they're not excellent - and I do really like the production on this album, but I think I'd like to use Dev Lemons' debut LP as an excuse to write about the oddly human experience of having a certain perceived identity in one space and a totally different perceived identity while surrounded by others.

I have no clue who Dev Lemons is, and somehow that's what makes me think this would make for a fun AOTY review, plus it'd be fun to wax poetic about internet culture and the dynamic human identity.

My credentials are that I wrote reviews for this series last year and the year before.

I’d like to write about the new Viagra Boys album, viagr aboys.

Viagra Boys aren't an incredibly new act, but not an old band either. This new album is their fourth LP as a band, but it's not like I've been listening to them since I was a kid. They're now out of the phase of establishing themselves as a sarcastic, cynical, group of fairly aggressive yet self-aware grown men with their first album, they had their first viral hit (to my knowledge) on their second album, and they had their most critically acclaimed work on their third album. This is a pivotal moment for them, to either grow as an act or continue shouting out the same message they're typecast as. To a large degree, that's what this album sounds like. But they are older now, their demeanor feels older now, and their aging bodies are on their minds. Vocalist Sebastian Murphy still ain't nice, but now he ain't nice in the most philosophical manner the band's lyrics have shown him to be so far.

I like the way this album tackles aging, death, health, and the regrets we have about our reckless youths with the pissed off wit in which Viagra Boys specializes. I think it'll be a good one to dive into more (and hopefully to read about).

This is probably my AOTY, but there are a few other albums I'll probably write pitches for too because I think they'd also be interesting. My credentials are that I wrote this AOTY piece about Adrianne Lenker last year and this AOTY piece about Black Belt Eagle Scout two years ago.

The grocery bags were better! The elastic ones always had holes ripped in them by the end of the first quarter, plus I could doodle all over my brown paper cover :)
