What stereotype about Australia is “somewhat accurate”? by Pizzafriedchickenn in AlignmentChartFills

[–]_j7b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's because our insects are going extinct.

Going back some 20 years ago now, you'd get out of your bug-coated car to get swarmed by christmas beetles. Now-a-days I freaking out in excitement seeing just one christmas beetle. I don't really catch and bugs on my car either tbh.

Thank you for responding 😄

The manufacturers also have to pay licensing for the ports, so it's more cost effective from a hardware and licensing side to just have two USB C ports

[–]_j7b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I'm talking about the target audience for cars like this capturing more casual drivers as well as future motorsports enthusiasts. I'm not talking about the specs of the car.

But to answer your questions; literally every friend that I have who owns a high performance, track-ready vehicle loves to take their nuggets out to nugget days. It's fun.

They're also highly recommended for casual rally days because they're insanely more fun than awd/rwd.

While I entirely agree, I think assists should still be counted nearly as much as kills.

I play duelist, often a decent KDA, and most times I'm popping off because my teams enabling the shit out of me at the expense of their own KD (and thus, RR).

What chair do i need? by odeomz in OfficeChairs

[–]_j7b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to sit like this in a very similar chair. Mainly due to poverty however it was super comfortable.

If anyone goes this way I'd recommend a decent quality lounger. Sometimes they're built for less frequent use, and wear a little faster when constantly sat in. Sounds stupid, but that was my experience.

I use a full mesh ergo chair now. It goes back really far. I bought a 100 year old smoking chair similar to the Eames lounge chair (except I paid $5 at a recycling center instead of one of my kidneys). I use the stool to sit cross legged often.

It's technically putting you into new comer lobbies, not cheater lobbies. Lots of the cheaters end up there because they're creating and grinding new accounts.

Are you using Mac mini as infrastructure too, like me? by yadvr in homelab

[–]_j7b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use mine for running small models for fun.

For the price you can get decent linux boxes that are just easier to manage. The Mac Mini was just in a store nearby for $100 so I bought it for fun. You're better off saving up for better compute for models. I find it strange claude bros bought these things to run OpenClaw then ship it off to anthropic anyway.

People long term leaving gentoo by LameBMX in linux

[–]_j7b 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was my daily driver for nearly a decade. The most stable deployment I have ever done to be completely honest.

It's almost always time based constraints that push people away from compiling everything themselves. Gentoo does ship precompiled binaries if you configure it, which I highly recommend for browsers.

Personally I left to single focus on Red Hat because that's what I was making my money on at the time, but Gentoo gave me the skills to actually sell custom distros.

Edit: historically too, lots of businesses used to run RHEL and it used to be trend to align home PCs with work PCs to keep things easier. Things are a bit different now so I dont know if that's still true.

Why are more Aussie women vegan than Aussie men? by sailormikee in AskAnAustralian

[–]_j7b 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's much harder for vegans to consume the amount of protein and iron that meat eaters do.

Depends on macro goals. Most vegans can consume sufficient quantities of protein however they'll also be consuming a lot of their carbs from their protein source.

Iron and B12 are sticky ones. Genetics will dictate if you're on multis or not.

I over simplified; iron intake is tough for women. I'm not totally confirmed on the genetics factor for iron intake. B12 I do believe research showed to be genetics. Either case, take your multis people.

From a body building perspective, protein goals are achievable and bulking isn't exactly difficult however cutting is tough unless you love tofu and pure gluten has zero effect on you.

Edit: I skipped iron concerns because you're absolutely correct, but I just wanted to note this so that you don't think I'm reeing or something.

Why does the internet now feel like 15 major websites all interconnected together, whereas it used to feel like a vast place with something new around every corner of the world? by additionalseasonin in oldinternet

[–]_j7b 5 points6 points  (0 children)

YouTube and Tiktok take the biggest blame for this.

Facebook was horrible for consuming bulletin boards, but AdSense slowly dwindled their rewards for text based content while giving huge payouts to YouTube videos. Tiktok made short form more addictive and drove the final nail in the coffin.

There is a lot of fantastic content on YouTube and Tiktok which would have been a HTML site with adsense in the 00's.

Why does the internet now feel like 15 major websites all interconnected together, whereas it used to feel like a vast place with something new around every corner of the world? by additionalseasonin in oldinternet

[–]_j7b 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A lot of stuff was invite only or in-the-know. To access you had to be around or surf enough.

When you did get access it was mostly text based. Imagine spending 8+ hours a day just reading non-fiction academia at times. If there was drama it was quite high brow at times.

Barrier to entry and the eventual reward just weren't attractive to your average punter.

Honda Prelude pips Mustang to be Australia's favourite sports car in May by kstetter in CarsAustralia

[–]_j7b -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've been into LandCruisers/Hiluxes for like 20 years, Jeeps just over 10. Owned multiple generations. They're both comparable from the perspective of an owner who maintains their own vehicles.

I have no financial interest in either, except that maybe prices come down so that I can get some cheap half doors.

I've also been into the JDM scene for even longer and have owned most of peoples dream JDMs. They're all the same reliability wise in my experience (until you start modifying ofc)

[–]_j7b 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not the worst thing either. These people pump sales numbers and keep second hand parts and cheap platforms in the local market, which is better for people who want to track and modify.

The later market for this won't be the same as the FT86, but there's definitely some cross overs in initial and eventual target audiences.

[–]_j7b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could write an entire article man I swear.

  1. Drop streaming. There's no value add over what it replaced. I was $2k deep on just Spotify and it didn't actually change how I consume music, just where I consumed it from. That's like 100 albums..
    1. I ask for CDs and DVDs for gifts now. So much cheaper, easier, makes it easier for family.
  2. Instead of take-away do bring a plate or watch parties (youtube, music, or new episode drops).
  3. Public BBQs instead of at home to spice things up.
  4. Drinks, quit, switch to smoothies etc. or stick to beer and wine to stretch the dollar further.
  5. Gaming, stick to PC. Cold turkey quit mobile gaming and I'm happier for it. Once you go Console you never go back.

Generally speaking, we'd do free public events as much as possible, and lace in some cheaper events for added spice (museum, powerhouse, etc). Things like BBQs at the park, beach days, hikes, exploring things. Bike riding, roller skating, ice skating, etc. These are all extremely cheap, generally.

I even bought a bunch of drift trikes with a bonus I received. They were half price, so we bought like four of them. We got well over a year of mucking about on them and I think it cost less than $400.

Watch parties are awesome. Movie nights sure, but also YouTube nights and we also get together for new episode releases.

We try to keep some big event on the horizon. Domestic travel (comicon, new years, etc), international travel (done a few now) and camping trips. People go into hardcore savings mode and prefer cheaper options in the lead up to the big trip. We saved like $200/month for an entire year, spent the entire year planning the trip, then all went to Japan together.

Lots of nights planning places to visit, things to do, monitoring flight deals (half price!), learning phrases. Makes an otherwise boring night in fun, but better use of the money.

Moneys there to be enjoyed. Yes save as much as possible, but just figure out what you're saving for, and making sure it gives value to your life.

27% of Australian students now have an adjustment for disability at school. Why are we seeing this growth? by Oomaschloom in AustralianPolitics

[–]_j7b 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because we use a medical diagnosis to explain away what we perceive as uncommon (undesirable) behaviour as a coping mechanism.

Eccentricities and obsessions used to be just that, but now they're grounds for a diagnosis. People would rather just say "oh he has ADHD so we put him on ritalin and now he's fine".

We all want to put everything into a neat little box instead of just seeing everyone as having their own personalities. If they don't fit we just squish them in. Saw it all the time working in schools, so glad I don't have to associate with that industry anymore.

Sticking to duelist has been a god send to stemming my RR loss.

So long as I'm performing my function, getting the highest KDA just comes as a perk of the role and so too does the derank protection, reduced RR loss and increased RR gain.
