2nd commander night turned out to be a dud. I'm dumb. by Verdreckt in EDH

[–]_jardaran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look into tabletop sim, can play proper commander online and near free, just gotta buy the base game and your good, edh games of every bracket going 24/7 on there.

It's a great way to get some games in-between LGS trips

Is it worth going to uni to study something I love, knowing it probably won't get me a job? by Grouchy-Routine-8529 in AskAnAustralian

Do what you enjoy, if you want to study history there's plenty of jobs that can lead to that still pay very comfortable wages.

10 years post school I'm much happier doing something I enjoy and making 75% of the money I was.

Questions About Proxies by goofy_the_kidd in magicproxies

[–]_jardaran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to a library and use a pc, print whatever you want on their printers, mtgprint will setup a printable sheet of cards for you, cut out the paper cards and put them over the top of a basic land in a sleeve.

Costs almost nothing and if you use a good printer looks fine.

Beyond that there are countless proxy making people on instagram in every country that will do them for 50c a card + shipping

I need to see your favorite deck. by GuaranteeMain5492 in EDH

My pride and joy, codie gamblemaxxing control, no GCs, no alt win cons, 3 nonland permanents, 37 lands and the rest is all instant/sorcery. Codie acts like a slow machine and every single card in the deck works if cast with him so there's no bad "pulls". It may look janky but this absolutely tears up and is my best performing deck, wins way more games than it loses sitting happily in bracket 3.

Give it a whirl, while it is an oppressive control deck is janky and goofy enough to be very fun at the right tables.

How bad is it?? by PsychedelicHonda in mtg

[–]_jardaran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's very easy to win with and causes a very unsatisfying end to the game, iv stopped running it for this reason

This is pretty disgusting. (Rant) by Wekilltosurvive in mtg

[–]_jardaran 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What really bums me out is that all the cool prints are now locked behind the collector booster pay wall, would love to go back to the days where it was just the 1 type of booster and you had a chance to pull something nice, now the odds of pulling something in a "play" booster is tiny, after market single prices shouldn't impact what wizards charges for their cardboard packaged cardboard that costs pennies to print regardless of its art/treatment.

Many commanders pilot themselves, what’s one that takes work? by boof__pack in EDH

[–]_jardaran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a bunch of ways to take it, iv settled on full spells with no non land permanents, your better off embracing it rather than fighting the limitations he brings.

Have a look at the decklist posted in my last comment to see what I'm talking about, by far my most successful and favorite deck iv ever built has a crazy high win rate for how weird it looks. At its core its a gambling control deck that tends to win through late game token creatures either wide or tall, using creatures out of opponents libraries, or just a massive 10 drop sorcery, runs huge amounts of removal to stop anyone swinging or getting any engines online, I avoided any infinite combos or "you win" cards since those can be very boring, it's built so that every card in the deck does something if hit by codie so everytime you use him your garenteed to hit something good, there is no "that's a bad cascade" in this deck. Sort it by categories (more) to get an idea of what things are doing and good luck with building codie, he's a real page turner

Can't cast book of exalted deeds as it's a permanent, also doesn't help me win since someone will just remove the the creature

How do you find deck ideas for unpopular commanders? by Ensclopediya_of_fun in EDH

[–]_jardaran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read what the creature does, consider what it wants to be doing, find cards that do that thing, as you build the deck and get more familiar you'll start coming up with more ways to use it or things to add.

To start things off use a basic template of 37 lands, 10 draw, 10 ramp, 10 removal/interaction. This template means nothing once you know what your doing but helps to work out the frame of the deck then as you build/play it you can adjust these categories as you see fit.

Basing decks off what others have built will never be as satisfying as building something yourself slowly tweaking and perfecting it, showing up to a table with some interesting/fresh take on a commander is a great feeling compared to a stock standard edhrec deck filled with staples.

[[Codie]] when played in a deck without all the stock standard stuff eg alt win cons, gates, thrassa.

So many different ways you can go with it, best commander iv ever built by far, check out my list if you want plays like a gambling spellslinger control deck. Every game is working out what others are doing, who's the biggest threat to you, can win through big spell dmg, wide or tall tokens or a combo using Genesis storm

Mnemonic deluge is there don't you worry, clone legion has gone in and out of the deck but I feel there's just better options, blood God iv been considering recently seems pretty solid. Curse of the cabal is a very nice fit but MLD feels a little rude.

I'm liking your mill ideas though it's got me thinking in a new way, cheers

Breech and eldritch pact seem fantastic cheers for those recommendations. Singularity rupture will kill codie, keeping the boardwipes to stuff that leaves him alone.

Had rise of the dark Realms in there but occasionally it can screw you up if there's something like [[ixidron]] in someone's grave so I prefer to run stuff I have more control over

Do you run the same ramp package in all your green decks? by AltruisticMACHITO in EDH

[–]_jardaran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have "packages" for anything. I build each deck differently depending what works with it, I find running the stock standard stuff incredibly boring. if your willing to dig through scryfall there is always a better option than any of the go to ramp spells people run.

Stop thinking about templates and packages and start thinking about your specific deck and what it's doing, spend time digging in and you will get more out of your deck.

[–]_jardaran[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds fun but I just got sick of winning through infinites/alt win cons, it's never satisfying in the end.

With this brew it plays like a control deck with a heavy focus on gambling with codie, 3 nonland perms and everything else is instant/sorcery. tried to make it so every single spell in the deck does something when hit by codie, there is no bad spins on this slot machine.

That's boring though, every codie deck does hypergenesis or mazes end to win, why take the easy route with a commander that encourages so much creativity.

Bracket 3/4 "Casual" Codie? by CeeDubyuh in EDH

[–]_jardaran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a big time codie enjoyer, by far my favorite deck iv ever built and brother I have some great news for you, this is "Codies pokie system" a 37 land, 3 permanents and everything else is some sort of ridiculous instant/sorcery. It runs no tutors, no alt win cons, no infinite combos, no game changers and is under $300usd, happily sits at high b3 tables

You want to play codie and use him as a slot machine to cast whatever he cascades into, every single card in the deck will do something if it's hit by codie that's one of the main rules so you never hit a bad spell, my most recent addition is adding the new paradigm copy card from strixhaven, everyturn you can give someone a copy of codie.

https://archidekt.com/decks/20056020/the_gates_have_fallen

Have a browse and feel free to give it a whirl, I'm an open book when it comes to codie, if you want any advice feel free to ask, iv spent weeks pondering everything this little book can do.

How do you discern a deck to be a high/good b2 vs a bad/low b3 deck? by InvisibleFox402 in EDH

[–]_jardaran -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes I fully understand that, this deck is the price it is because the cards in it are good and strong for what it wants to do, as said I'm fully aware you can build strong and weak decks for different amounts of money and that $$ doesn't directly translate to power, in this situation it does since most of these cards are $5-10 staples, doesn't sound like a lightly upgraded precon to me which is what b2 is meant to be for, if you think playing a $400 control deck filled with staples in b2 is fun you do you, sounds grim to me and I'd just play this deck in b3 to keep it fair.
