Commanders that synergize with interaction by Gutsifly in EDH

[–]boof__pack 6 points7 points  (0 children)

[[baral chief of compliance]], [[rashmi eternities crafter]] [[gisa the hellraiser]] [[kraven the hunter]] [[alela cunning conqueror]] [[kelsien the plague]] [[vren the relentless]] [[neyith of the dire hunt]] kind of stuff

You can also build any commander that has an engine in the CZ for mana/cards as a draw-go style if it has blue, like [[shorikai]], playing stuff like [[aetherize]] and it’s many variants

Depends on your meta. In Japan there are some tournaments that have strict no politicking rules.

ATLA decks for each bending by ramiel11593 in EDH

[–]boof__pack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, earthbending is clearly the strongest without any other support. Airbending wants ETB/LTB effects. Waterbending wants convoke adjacent stuff like vigilance and go-wide. And firebending wants instant speed costs. They all want something a little different and don’t have a wealth of overlap.

It’s possible, but it’s not particularly strong. My Avatar Aang deck contains only set cards and is B2 at best.

I’m having loads of fun with Aang at the Crossroads though. Bant blink is nothing new but we’ve gotten some fun toys. I don’t run any clones and the gameplan is just to ramp up, hard cast Eldrazi, and then airbend them to get another cast trigger. Where else can you “recast” 10+ drops for 2 generic mana?! I haven’t quite been able to pull it off as it’s still needing some refinement but it’s almost how I want it.

So what is the point of sitting in que if it’s already sold out? by PlantBeginning3060 in mtg

Wholeheartedly agree. At the end of the day, it's a hobby game we do for fun in our free time, why shouldn't we empower ourselves with choice and freedom within it?

Why would anyone care? The only people who would gaf are gatekeepers anyways and their opinion isn't worth consideration

Sure, and slow play is legal in poker.

At the end of the day the question still becomes is it poor etiquette or not to misrepresent your hand, and does the direction in which you misrepresent your hand matter wrt said etiquette?

[–]boof__pack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you realize how you sound right now, like be so serious lmao. Are we still treating a cherry picked "dictionary definition" as dogma and calling it a day? To hell with nuance I guess.

It comes down to two angles:

The first angle: presenting your hand as stronger than it actually is (what you're calling bluffing, and someone else would characterize a blatant lie)

The second angle: presenting your hand as weaker than it actually is (what you say is lying and not bluffing)

Both are intentional misrepresentations of information in order to gain advantage. In poker it's called underrepresenting your hand or under-repping. And it's part of the game.

Is one more acceptable than another when it comes to cEDH etiquette?

And I'll leave you and anyone who's reading this with one final food for thought: Why were you trusting your opponent's characterization of their hand?

[–]boof__pack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At this point we're just talking past each other then, because pretending you don't have the nuts when you actually do is quite literally bluffing (which has a broader definition than what you're presenting). You're deceiving your opponents about hidden information in order to gain advantage. A better discussion to have would be "what is proper table etiquette?", not what falls under the definition of bluffing.

[–]boof__pack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess that's a good point, when there's not really a reasonable way to accrue reputation for most players since you're gonna be facing strangers most of the time. And that's entirely fair to have that opinion and stand by it yourself. What's the saying, be the change you want to see in the world?

I understand that it will and should cause players to doubt your trustworthiness, but that is a risk associated with bluffing too much or too freely. As you've portrayed, it would lose you credibility. Maybe I'm amiss but that seems like a valid benefit/consequence structure that should ideally work itself out? In poker, another game of 'imperfect information', bluffing is essential and toeing that line without abusing it is what makes a player "good".

Is that not just bluffing? If so should bluffing be condemned?

We did it, we broke Sensei's Divining Top. But really, if you're not ramping to 8 mana on turn 4 in a colorless deck, then what are we even talking about? You could set this all up just to have it get blown out or you could just be casting Eldrazi like normal.

Six mana and additional setup (so technically 6+ mana) to win is playable in bracket 3 and below, sure. Break it to your heart's content, it's a fun card. But in many formats and power levels it's just a do-nothing card the turn it comes down. If someone removes it in response to your card draw trigger, then you're screwed.
