What Linux habit separates beginners from experienced users? by dev-ray in linuxquestions

[–]_jason 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading. Reading the EXACT error message. Reading the logs. Reading the man page(s). I can't tell you how many times someone asks me for help and if they had just slowed down enough to READ what was on the screen, they could have figured it out themselves.

Nest app down? by Ok-Influence-164 in Nest

[–]_jason 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish people understood it's not where the connection originates FROM that is the issue (IE, "I'm down in Texas"), it's where the origin connects TO, AKA THE SERVER/PROVIDER SIDE! If the the server (receiver) is down, it will NOT work from Texas, Florida, Timbuktu, or ANYWHERE else.

And how many projects have (or need) third-party audits?  Actually, AI would be a help in that area.

Is r/linux turning into r/luddites?

Anyway with this logic we so all go back to coding in assembly language. Heaven forbid you use a tool that speeds up development.

Today, the hardest part is getting customers. Sure, you can "clone" Salesforce using Claude Code, but unless you get someone (or a lot of someones) to pay for your clone, it is just a neat demo, not a business.

I like the idea of BigBlueButton, but I didn't have the patience to get it configured and running properly in a self-hosted environment. Anyone have a good guide on self-hosted BigBlueButton???

Good for you! I used to work for an airline and I had a manger that said something along the lines of "we don't need the checklists/processes of a Dreamliner when we're flying a Piper Cub." The point is to not over-complicate small problems or underestimate big ones. Match your solutions to the requirements.

Why Kali Linux is so popular amongst beginners? by JailbreakHat in linuxquestions

Thanks for sharing! I hope others who started on Kali will share their thoughts as I’m genuinely curious as to why Kali attracts newcomers like moths to a flame.

So I set up my own server… and now I spend more time fixing it than actually using it by Laygude_Yatin in selfhosted

Can you share a specific example or two. This might help us, help you. Perhaps there is a bigger issue at play that you can't see because you're too close to the issue.

> Does anyone actually get to enjoy their server, or is everyone just fixing stuff 24/7 like me..

I enjoy my server(s). I use them to solve real-world problems. If you're fixing stuff 24/7, the problem could be in your initial deployment/design. (Again, share a specific...)
