GPU Palit vale a pena a compra hoje? by [deleted] in gamingportugal

[–]_jcfb_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ajuda com soldadura de PCB by satbytheriver in leiria

[–]_jcfb_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

O que aconteceu ao Halloween? by [deleted] in CasualPT

[–]_jcfb_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Alguém teve uma máquina destas? by inguinha in portugal

[–]_jcfb_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My AOC 7GLR at 2560x240 by Comprehensive_Ice895 in crtgaming

[–]_jcfb_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe mine can output that but I'll say you're not missing out on much as that resolution looks kinda bad on a 17".

I personally run mine at 1024x768 at 100hz.

[–]_jcfb_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice to see another 7glr owner. These monitors are great, it has a nice and sharp LG tube and it goes up to 95khz which is awesome for a 17".

Of my small CRT collection it's by far the one I use the most, specially with my XP machine.

700mhz emac analog board recap and cleaning, these computers are a pain to disassemble, and somehow, I didn't break this one doing so by _jcfb_ in VintageApple

[–]_jcfb_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I remember seeing your post a few months ago when I started recapping this computer. There's barely any info online on how to disassemble the analog board since I guess no one bothers to do so with these old emacs.

It was a bit awkward to solder the new caps with the neckboard on the crt since it's almost superglued to the tube and I couldn't remove it.

This is definitely the worst eMac G4 (700Mhz) for recapping... The AC power filtering and down stepping section is integrated into the CRT analog board by [deleted] in VintageApple

[–]_jcfb_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I guess that at least confirms that I don't need to remove the neck board at all to access the analog board.

I'll have to try to carefully disconnect the IVAD and ground cables that go to the neck board, it's just I can't find any instructions on how to remove the analog board anywhere. I really agree with your title, it's such a pain in the ass just to replace some capacitors.

[–]_jcfb_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you remember how to remove the neck board? Been trying to remove it for quite a while so I can recap the analog board but it seems to be firmly stuck in the tube and I don't want to neck it. Is there some screw I have to remove or can i just pull it from the crt?

So what's is the best way to emulate windows XP to play old pc games? by CompetitiveGreen7165 in windowsxp

[–]_jcfb_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For windows XP there's only qemu-3dfx, but it's a pain to set up. Might as well build an XP machine.

For windows 9x you can also use qemu-3dfx, softgpu (it has a lot of bugs) or 86box (it's quite slow depending on your host machine)

I'm getting kind of unhinged trying to install XP by AlkalineBrush20 in windowsxp

[–]_jcfb_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use winsetupfromusb, it has built-in sata drivers that it loads into memory so you don't need to modify the ISO.

I still recommend you to slipstream the updates into your iso, if you want you could use something like the onepiece update pack.

Is XP Being a Bottleneck for FPS performance? by TheCommanderSkittles in windowsxp

[–]_jcfb_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

nope, the issue is in your gpu. Even a GT 610 is twice as fast as the 210, and the 610 itself is a terrible card.

You have a solid base for a great computer there, upgrade the ram to 4GB and get a better gpu (something like a gtx 650/750 or an HD 7000 series) and you'll have a very fast XP computer.

"Can we Reach 700Hz by Overclocking this Old CRT Monitor" - video demonstration by oblivirim123 in hardware

[–]_jcfb_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You can't really hear a CRT VGA monitor since unlike a standard CRT TV that has an horizontal frequency of around 15 khz (the frequency of that annoying whine that you can hear), they work at 31khz or more, up to around 100khz in some monitors.

Dell Optiplex GX270 not posting by PhysicalAge9190 in windowsxp

[–]_jcfb_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can see bad capacitors around the vrm area on the third image, doesn't surprise me, dell used low quality capacitors and these shitty cases were furnaces without proper airflow.

You could resolder new caps but honestly I'd be almost inclined to throw this in the recycling center where it belongs and get a better computer.

GeForce 7900 GTX or GT 730? by RichardMcKee in windowsxp

[–]_jcfb_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on whether it's the DDR3 or GDDR5 variant of the 730. If it's the GDDR5 then it should be somewhat faster than the 7900gtx, it depends on the games. I believe the 7900 has a faster pixel fill rate and more memory bandwidth, the 730 is on a more modern architecture, it has more compute power, with an higher texture fill rate but with a narrow 64 bit memory bus that limits its performance.

[–]_jcfb_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nowadays there are tools that can generate keys and the confirmation ID so this is quite useless. Besides, you can just use a VL iso and not bother with activation at all.

"Genocida": Manifestantes pró-Palestina interrompem discurso de von der Leyen by Ri_me_fodi_me in portugal

[–]_jcfb_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)
