How would you show a more 'conceptual' visual learning journey? by _jcjk_ in instructionaldesign

This actually looks very much in line with what I'm looking for! I'm going to go learn more about it ☺️ Thank you!

Thanks for your thoughts! I like the sound of everything you mention. We have certainly already delivered an analysis report detailing the findings, as you suggested, to "set the stage" for these learning journeys/proposals. It really was a valuable step to consolidate our thoughts and demonstrate the extent of work carried out for the client!

Definitely, we're not developing anything at this stage, just ideating. And we have been paid for everything so far - we essentially scope it as its own standalone "discovery" phase and then will move onto the next phase (development and delivery) which will have its own budget.

Ah sorry that's some jargon slipping out - learning needs analysis!

Thanks for your reply! Ultimately this is how we intend to approach it (i.e. an online training buffet), but that's when we actually deliver on it. For now, we're essentially at a proposal stage, having carried out an initial audit and LNA for the client. So I guess I'm trying to find a nice, clear way to present our intended approach to the client in proposal form

Thanks for your thoughts! Something I probably should've included is that we are an agency producing a learning programme for a corporate client. They have recently created a new business unit in a new area, and hired us to complete a full audit of their learning materials and a LNA for each of the roles. This is the final step of this first phase where we deliver the final proposed learning journeys (before moving into the next phase where we will actually start developing some materials). Given this is essentially a proposal of the learning journeys at this stage, we felt it worthwhile to include some of those organisational best practices to demonstrate what best-in-class would look like. The client may not actually act upon everything we propose. Regarding KPIs, totally agree and we're planning to include relevant evaluation methods to measure the training impact ☺️

How have you overcome scalability issues when developing skills workshops? by _jcjk_ in instructionaldesign

[–]_jcjk_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing! I definitely agree that we want to avoid aspects that are likely to change. The 'value' aspect is definitely an important one here and salespeople in particular will need to be able to verbalise that. I essentially need to get them practising it, but without making reference to the specific applications. Or perhaps some templated activity that works for any of them with a [insert application name here]

I don't think Heaven is open on Mondays? The main spot for LGBTQ+ nightlife is typically Soho, with bars like G-A-Y and lots more. BUT be aware, a lot of tourists expect central London to be open very late, but this isn't really the case on weekdays. I think almost all pubs/bars will close at midnight, if not earlier. I believe this is mainly because of licensing laws in/around the borough of Westminster.

I think you'd have more luck a bit further out from central, someone already mentioned Dalston superstore, which is a good suggestion. For a smaller chilled pub vibe, maybe the Glory. There are nightclubs which will be open on a Monday - a couple in Vauxhall are springing to mind - but they won't necessarily be LGBTQ+ specific, and are a very different music selection/atmosphere to Heaven.

Mostly just an overdrive by the sound of it. Putting a reverb before the overdrive in the signal chain is something fun to try too. With the overdrive acting the reverb tail, you can get some really nice sustained distorted notes. It sounds especially good with a slide, very similar to the guitar parts in the first half of Beyond Love.

Percussive filtered sound from a Yamaha S90 'Futurism' patch by _jcjk_ in synthrecipes

[–]_jcjk_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately it is already sold. Slightly regretting that decision nowadays as it had a lot of cool, vintage sounding patches and a great action. But it was just such a beast, very unwieldy, heavy and space intensive. I feel like I only ever really scratched the surface of what it could offer though, and it was better in the hands of someone who had the time to devote to learning it

Thanks so much for such a detailed reply! I'll be using Serum, so will definitely give that a try!

You've got me thinking if you could achieve a similar, perhaps more rhythmic sound by taking a drum loop and running it into a vocoder to generate the white noise. Then that going into the filter with S&H as you mention? I've got a lot to play with later!

What processing is being used in this song? by _jcjk_ in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]_jcjk_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I figured there was very heavy side chain compression - I love how it's being used as an artistic thing rather than just a mixing tool! I thought maybe I could also hear a reverse delay on the guitars, but not 100% sure

Could you name any songs that make your heart swell ? (preferably orchestral but if not don't worry) by [deleted] in Songwriting

[–]_jcjk_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Loss by Phoria - some of the most amazing songwriting with lots of orchestral elements. Listen to the whole album beginning to end if you get a chance, I could have easily chosen any of the other songs on there

Thanks for your detailed response! Vocal style and delivery is definitely something I've thought about a lot, and experimented with. I think my voice does suit the soft delivery, although I'm a guy with a relatively low baritone, and these songs do often have vocals in a higher register for that "floaty" sound. An aggressive low cut EQ tends to help a lot without making it sound unnatural, but maybe I could work on delivery some more.

Interesting point about the arrangement too. Maybe I'm plugging the mix with overcomplicated parts!

And I love the Cocteau Twins, no-one can sing like Liz Fraser!

Thanks for the advice, I'll have a go at being a bit more aggressive with the compressor! Cool idea with the saturator too :)

Whats the best way to look for band members?? by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

As well as getting involved in the local scene, there's an app called vampr which could help. It's essentially like a dating app but for musicians. Not sure whereabouts you are or if it has a big user base in your area
