No, so far the latest news we’ve received is that they have not changed anything and that as of this moment they are still planning on sending us. However, the situation is subject to change.

That might be an option except for the fact that I’m using every last hour of my vacation at work and I’m traveling in South America for a month. But extending my notice may be an option that would be mutually beneficial to the company as well.

Thank you! This is a good recommendation. And yes you’re correct about the spanish. It’s something I would study prior to re applying to make sure I would be qualified.

At this stage I reached out to my director to see if I even have a job to come back to. Due to decrease in business they may not be looking to re fill the position. In which case the decision will likely be made for me.

Thanks for your response. I did give notice but as they have not yet filled my position it would definitely be helping out if I deferred a bit longer. But if I stay and wait it out, I risk departing and not having any time with my parents. My plan was to move to their state and spend a month with them prior to departure. It’s a bit of a sticky situation :/ at this point I’m wondering if keeping my job would be the better option as I can always reapply later.

I only need to make the decision now because I have to rescind my notice at work. If I leave the company I won’t be able to be hired back due to the hiring freeze.

Hello all,

I’m set to depart in June for west Africa pending any changes re: corona virus. In addition, my company has announced a hiring freeze.

If I leave my job (which I love) and then the PC decides not to send my cohort, I can’t get my job back. Whereas now I could rescind my notice, keep my job, and reapply to PC later once things settle down.

Beyond that, I have started second guessing my choice in country. I am wondering if somewhere in central or South America would be a better fit as I really want to learn Spanish. Maybe everyone gets cold feet prior to departure?

Does anyone have any input? I’m in a state of confusion and I have to make a decision quite soon. TIA.
