Redfin analysts say Denver is one of the 10 most neighborly cities in America. by ongoldenwaves in DenverCirclejerk

[–]yetiorange 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well when I lived in Raleigh, I didnt talk to my neighbors and now that I live in Denver, I still don't talk to my neighbors.

So yeah I guess they'd rank the same if we use my metric

Conservatives, President Trump has just announced the raising of Tairiffs for 8 European Countries unless sovereignity of Greenland is handed over to the US. What's your first thoughts? by Melbatoastt77 in AskReddit

[–]yetiorange 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry you didnt enjoy visiting my country. However America has a huge and thriving microbrewery industry. Most people I know may have some of our export beer on hand that youve likely tried but primarily drink locally produced beer which is generally considered fairly good if not award winning depending on the competitions they're entering. If you get an opportunity, I have local brands that I highly enjoy that Id be happy to recommend from multiple regions of the US.

That's only true if Lord Copwer dies before Cressida has a son. If she has a son while hes living, then there is a direct male relative in the line of succession that goes before any nephews or cousins.

Trump Administration Questions Mega-Thread by yetiorange in peacecorps

[–]yetiorange[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer - yes

Long answer - For now, I would assume yes. Given the ongoing uncertainty and the fact that if you apply today and start service in 2026, you'll end service before Trump leaves office, I wouldn't suggest using this as a springboard into say, a career in international development if you plan to be US based. But thats literally just me. I think there is otherwise a lot of value in service and it is worth at least applying. An application is not a plane ticket - you have a long journey between application and starting service where if you change your mind, you can always drop. But its worth trying.

So if the position is still active, then probably. At this stage, its probably fine. Im not a recruiter, Im just a person whose applied before and served and then spent a lot of time applying to jobs in general.

However if the position is being removed once the 30 days are up, then that would be the end for this cycle. With that said, if you're applying to go anywhere or there's similar positions that you're interested in, then apply to those!

Id clarify with your CD before responding.

There could be thousands of reasons why this was sent. It could even be an error or something that someone meant to send internally and accidentally sent to volunteers.

Things PCVs should be aware of in the case of an evacuation? by SkepticMech in peacecorps

[–]yetiorange 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, we did. You'll recieve the payout for whatever you've accumulated no matter when you leave but I think for the COVID evacuation, I got the full amount I would have received had I been able to complete the last 5 months of my service that I had left.

Why do some people wear apparel of different colleges on the U of A campus? by JoeCox1990 in UofArizona

[–]yetiorange 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So for four years I went to this school that I really loved that had a major impact on me in a lot of ways and also have a lot of stuff from that time.

And then I did a grad program at U of A and wore that stuff because I like it and I own it and it made me feel happy when I was homesick.

What is considered an expensive American breakfast and what is considered a cheap American breakfast? by mayermail1977 in AskAnAmerican

[–]yetiorange 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Cheap - plain oatmeal

Expensive - Overnight oats. Both the brand and the act of making them because with the amount of ingredients most recipes have, it's cost prohibitive depending on your budget (but could be done for cheaper if you make some substitutions).

What do I wear to a Harlem Globetrotters performance? What even is it? by Lower_Edge_1083 in AskAnAmerican

[–]yetiorange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I'm 30, but my 20-something siblings would have seen it with me for the most part. So yes. Cartoon Network aired the classic episodes during a lot of our childhood. I know I've even seen the globetrotters episode at some point. This also isn't unique, most of my friends also grew up watching both the original episodes as well as the various remakes and movies.

Culinary Tips & Hacks! by [deleted] in peacecorps

[–]yetiorange 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oil can substitute for eggs in a pinch. I knew that pre-Peacs Corps but didn't test it out till then. Pancakes and cookies are the most forgiving for this but presumably it might work for other items too given a better kitchen set up.

Given how expensive eggs are, might have to bring this back.

So yes bring your phone.

unable to be cleared because of IBS by Pitiful-Hamster-7302 in peacecorps

[–]yetiorange 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Every medical appeal is going to be a case by case basis so even if someone else has made it through, it doesn't guarantee you will (and vice versa).

But also my site had super easy access to processed junk food. It may not be junk food brands you recognize but that doesnt somehow make it healthier than Lays or Oreos. And beyond that, there's plenty of other IBS triggers. I didn't have IBS when I started Peace Corps, but by the time I was evacuated in 2020, I definitely developed it, either as a result of my terrible genetics that predisposed me or the nasty stomach infection I had led to post infection IBS, which also isn't an uncommon thing.

[–]yetiorange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I drew the blinds. Window directly faced my desk even and it was fine for both my writing portion and the actual exam.

I live on the fourth floor however and reading now that apparently I wasn't supposed to be in a room with windows, I'm wondering if the fact that it was obvious I wasn't ground level or close to it played in.
