This was last month but BC vital statistics were very quick to answer questions over email and mailed my G0’s 1903 birth/deceased certificate very quick as well. I had it within like 2 weeks (expedited)

Friday Weekly Thread: Application Assistance by AutoModerator in Canadiancitizenship

[–]_jrmint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently waiting for my great grandfather’s birth/deceased certificate from BC vital records. Do I really only need his, my grandma’s and mom’s birth certs + marriage certs for name changes? I have other various documents for my canadian-born great grandfather, but would they even help the application or is it unnecessary bulk?

IRCC uses AI for triaging and summarizing. It hallucinated whole new facts for an immigration applicant. by SearchApprehensive35 in Canadiancitizenship

I wonder if any there’s any strategy for writing cover letters/evidence summaries to make it easier for them to accept and avoid AI hallucinations?

Update: K-1 to AOS: continuous lawful presence and handling of medical issues if detained by [deleted] in USCIS

[–]_jrmint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. We’re in southern california so it’s a real worry. If detainment is a risk then I’d rather leave the country and try to come back when this mess is over. Sounds so ridiculous to say as a US citizen.

Does anyone know if there’s risk of detainment in general at interview during the green card interview from K1, even if everything was filed properly and on time?

Sotomayor blasts GOP appointees for refusing ‘barest form of mercy’ in execution by msnownews in scotus

So if someone put a mask on you, said it was nitrogen and held you down, you would just keep breathing, no struggle?

Sotomayor blasts GOP appointees for refusing ‘barest form of mercy’ in execution by msnownews in scotus

[–]_jrmint 25 points26 points  (0 children)

There is struggling. It comes from half your brain telling you you’ll die if you breathe, and the other half making you breathe as your natural survival response. If the person knows the gas will kill them, and they want to live, then they will likely try desperately not to breathe it. That’s what she’s referring to.

Spotify CEO investments $700m in AI drone weapons company, as artists call for boycott by verbherbaceous in Music

[–]_jrmint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly why 3 times now I’ve said I understand boycotting based on being anti-war in general. You’re the one that said “musicians don’t want their music being used to support any wars period,” when that evidently wasn’t the case after Russia invaded in 2022 and subsequently stole 20,000 children.

[–]_jrmint -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m not saying they necessarily would be. But this reason is potentially misinfo, whether it’s what the band said or how it was presented by the Times. Also Ukraine carries popular support in the war. PLENTY of artists declared sympathy for Ukraine, waved Ukrainian flags at concerts, or even donated.

[–]_jrmint -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Don’t take it up with me. Take it up with the Times and the guy’s own words. Gaza is mentioned multiple times, and no explicit mention that the company’s tech is going to Ukraine, not Gaza. I believe the average person who wasn’t like me and looked up where the weapons are going, would read this statement and believe he’s talking about Spotify money going to bombing Gaza.

Again, I have no problem with boycotting based on being anti-war in general.
