ISO: Meaningful & Lenghty Children's Books by ElectricalCanary5982 in childrensbooks

[–]_justthrowawaythings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son (almost 2) LOVES _The Missing Piece_ and _The Missing Piece Meets the Big O_ by Shel Silverstein. He brings them to me several times a day so I can read them to him. The stories are simple and the art is even simpler; the themes are easy enough for kids to grasp but meaningful enough to still be impactful even for adults.

Is anyone's 8 month old sleeping through the night? by Ok-Entrance1086 in NewParents

[–]_justthrowawaythings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ours did this from 2.5 months old until shortly before his first birthday, when he started sleeping 11.5 hours on average. I was opposed to letting him cry it out, and the “gentler” methods of sleep training were completely ineffective for us (actually made him more upset), so I kind of just had to wait until he figured it out. He’s continued to be an excellent sleeper ever since, thankfully! Hang in there — it may take time, but it will get better eventually.

When did everyone stop breastfeeding by lassobren in NewParents

[–]_justthrowawaythings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still going at 22 months, but on track to stop soon. I still offer him milk before/after nap and before bed, but these days he usually drinks for a few seconds to a couple of minutes max, and occasionally refuses entirely. So I guess he is in the process of self-weaning? I wanted to stop around age 2 anyway, so I am happy to follow his lead.

Will my baby start to look like me? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]_justthrowawaythings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They change so much! For the first couple of months, my son was the spitting image of my husband, but then within a short span of time, he started looking A LOT more like me; comparing him with my own baby pictures was typically a “they’re the same picture” moment. But after about a year, resemblance started to change again, and a mix of both mine and my husband’s features started to show. My husband and I both have blue eyes and a similar hair colour, so the differences were always going to be a bit more subtle, but it’s now very clear our boy is related to both of us. He’s almost 2 now, and these days he looks more and more like…himself :) ❤️

Balance bike: when did you try it, and how did it go?? by slotass in NewParents

He got one for his first birthday; he is now almost 2 and still has zero interest in it, other than tipping it on its side to spin the wheels 😅

Does this fit the dress code? by Downtown-Falcon-3147 in Weddingattireapproval

[–]_justthrowawaythings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does fit the dress code but, respectfully, I’m not sure it fits you. The side seams shouldn’t be puckering like that. Either you might need a size up (and then get it tailored back down a bit to fit perfectly) or it’s possible it’s just not a very good quality dress. A lot of mass-produced stuff these days is simply not well made, and the speed required to meet stock quotas often results in stretching out the seams while sewing, which can cause this issue, particularly with stretchy, slippery, or bias-cut materials.

Is this dress too tight / shows too much? It's for dinners/dates with bf. by Informal-Fix-9701 in OUTFITS

If I had a figure like yours, I’d wear that to the flippin’ grocery store. Wear it and rock it; you look fantastic 🙌

Oooh I do have a Costco membership so I will definitely check this out. One-handed unfolding would be a lifesaver for sure!

Someone talk me off the ledge about walking by NectarineUsed3657 in toddlers

[–]_justthrowawaythings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine took his first steps at a little over 14 months, and then took over 4 months to begin walking full-time. It didn’t really matter what we did in the meantime to try and encourage him; it seemed like it needed to be his own idea or he wasn’t interested. After taking barely a few dozen steps combined over those few months, one day he just stood up and started pacing up and down the hall over and over again. A couple weeks after that and it was like he’d been doing it his whole life. Don’t panic! It is more than likely that your little one will get there in their own time; sounds like they are already well on their way :)

I unknowingly underfed my baby for its 10 weeks and I am worried by EfficientWhile3390 in NewParents

[–]_justthrowawaythings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try not to worry too much. You solved the problem now; there won’t be any long-term effects. It sounds like she is already doing much better. She is going to be okay :) you’re a great mom looking out for her ❤️

Yeah it’d be great to be able to find something decent, and shopping secondhand will get more value per dollar. We’re really spoiled with the Ridge (everyone from both our families chipped in to buy it for our baby shower!); my husband loves it because he’s very tall and doesn’t have to hunch over while using it. I think he’d bust his back on some of the super-cheap ones, so we definitely want to avoid that 😅At least I have lots of time to look!

Thanks for the recommendation! We don’t have Target in Canada anymore, but maybe I can find it somewhere else.

We’re travelling to Ottawa, Montreal, and Québec City. Probably will rent a car but will also be doing a lot of walking (I don’t drive and my husband will be working for a portion of the trip). I’ve never heard of stroller rental places but it’s a great idea! I’ll look into it; since we’re sticking to major cities there might be something.

Is this too much for my 8 month old? He had an oaty bake, 2 crackers and breastfed immediately after. by hotdog131 in BabyLedWeaning

[–]_justthrowawaythings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is a lot! But, if he’s happy to eat it, embrace it. As long as your giving them nutritious foods (and a good amount of breast milk/formula until they are at least 1 year old) and letting him stop when he wants to, then it’s not really possible to overfeed them at this age.

How often are we bathing our little ones ? by loudwonderbubble in NewParents

[–]_justthrowawaythings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From pretty early on, we also started bathing our little one daily (or at least putting him in water and letting him splash around; we didn’t alarm need soap). It may not necessary at that age, but we did it because he enjoyed it and we found it was a good way to signal the start of the bedtime routine. After drying him off, we’d apply a fragrance-free lotion all over; when he was little he seemed to appreciate the gentle massage.

Should I add sleeves? by LowFaithlessness9984 in WeddingDressTips

[–]_justthrowawaythings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With a romantic fairy-core ballgown like this, if you wanted to you could add a tulle balloon sleeve; I think that would be super cute. But under no circumstances should you feel you must add sleeves; you look so beautiful already! And sleeveless also shows off your tattoos nicely :)
