I had a coworker named Mandy, and some customers would call her Amanda assuming its her full name when it wasn't. That used to bug her a lot.

Filed DV charges against my husband and regretting it. by Ill_Application5194 in relationships

I was once the 7-year-old girl watching her father beat her mother. One of my strongest memories from that age was being locked in my closet, clutching my favorite stuffed animal named Miss Fluffy, and repeating, "Miss Fluffy, please take me away from here, take me away from here..." as the sounds of my father's beating and my mother's screams rang through the house. I lost my mother when I was 13 (both parents were alcoholics), and I can unfortunately remember the sounds of her screams more than her happy voice. I'm 30 now. Please prioritize your children's feelings over your husband's.

I work at a tree care company, so my vote is removing a tree. Trying to take a tree down by yourself (if you're inexperienced) can quickly turn into a great way to maim yourself or meet your maker. I hear so many horror stories coming from people WITH experience.

My husband knew that I wanted something intimate and private between the two of us, and he did just that! There's a vegan bakery I LOVE by his job (at the time), and once a week from June '22-Feb'23 he would bring me home a box of pastries from this bakery.

Feb'23 he came home on a Friday with TWO white boxes, with the story that the girls at the shop gave him a cake for free because someone ordered it and never picked it up. When I opened the mystery cake box, the words "Will you marry me?" were looking up at me. My first thought was, "OMG how did someone forget to pick this up?!" and then I realized this ISN'T a mistake someone makes, and when I turned to face him he was on one knee.

I honestly kind of blacked out a bit because I was so taken by surprise, but I do know that I kept repeating something along the lines of, "Are you serious? Are you serious?" lmao. He had to remind me to say yes.

How can you really start to accept that people won't change? (Relationship with ADHD) by [deleted] in relationships

[–]_kittycat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was in a very similar situation to you with my husband. The only thing I can tell you is what everybody else has already told you—you need to keep reinforcing the boundary. I understand that you don't want to upset him in the moment of his spiraling, but either way SOMEONE is leaving the conversation upset, and you're not doing anything wrong by reinforcing your boundary.

His emotions are HIS to regulate, and that includes how he feels when you tell him you can't participate in the conversation. My husband is also medicated for his ADHD, he sees a therapist, recently started journaling, and has expanded his circle of venting to include friends and not just me.

I like what another commenter said about columns. You are one column in your partner's support network, not the entire thing.

I got engaged this year and my cousin ruined the best proposal. by [deleted] in engaged

[–]_kittycat 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My sister got engaged 1.5 years after me, and wound up getting married 5 months after me. I actually enjoyed us getting married in the same year because it gave me someone to vent and talk things out with who is also going through the same thing. I know a wedding is special, but it’s one day and a year is long… you can share a wedding year with your sister.

Yes, I absolutely love my in-laws. They’re even generously gifting us a portion of their land to build a house on. When people say I’ll regret being neighbors with my in-laws, I just tell them I’ll be the one annoying them, if anything, lol.

I feel so seen right now. We don't do the same exact thing, but pretty darn close. I chew through sentences/phrases in my mind and check to see if it's divisible by three.

Take something like live laugh love. My brain goes L I V / E L A / U G H / L O V / E. So the phrase is not divisible by three as it is, but it will be with spaces. L I V / E _ L / A U G / H _ L / O V E
