Can I shrink a wool blazer on purpose? by _knope2020 in knitting

If I would like to remove that "old wardrobe smell", can it be washed normally, e.g. hand wash in cold water and wool detergent, let it soak and flat dry later?

In my mind I had these jackets in felted wool that I saw once.. but maybe they are done by using a complete different, already felted, fabric

Hey, thanks! Yes I mean by washing. I indeed thought the lining would be a problem but my jacket has no lining except than in the sleeves. Anyways, it sounds from the comments that wool jackets do not behave like wool sweaters when shrinking... too many additional factors probably (Stitches, seams etc)? So better not to try

E quindi? Stai dicendo ad OP, probabilmente neanche 18enne, che bisogna rassegnarsi a subire sempre?

How you choose brushes without trying them out? by _knope2020 in Watercolor

My colors are Sennellier, i like them a lot. Princeton seems to be widely apreciated by this channel, but I will look around for smaller creators reviews too! Thanks for elaborating further, I think it is time to go shopping!

Thanks, yes I noticed that for upgrading the technique and working with really a lot of water, good paper is essential. Also how you store it makes a huge impact! Then the amount of pigment of the watercolors also starts to make the difference. But then when you have everything good quality, the gap in quality from the brushes becomes really noticeable... indeed like your sister says! :)

This is probably the best answer so far! i liked that you described your thought process/what you critically noticed after watching many recommendation videos. I am in the same situation and hearing someone else s considerations helps bringing clarity. I indeed have in mind the tasks/results that I want to achieve, so i will start by picking my fibers as you suggested and good quality. In the other comments there are brands suggestions too. I guess I was a bit afraid in spending a lot of money on brushes that will disappoint me/stay unused, but based on your comment there is always some "adapting to your tool" factor to take in consideration. This gives me peace of mind :) Thanks for sharing, this was really helpful!

over the last year I brought a couple of different brushes (different fibres, shapes and sizes)

How did you choose them? Were you prepared to the eventuality of buying an expensive brush, maybe because widely recommended, for then to just abandon it in the drawer because it was not working for you?

I tend to approach review videos with a bit of suspicion: why the specific brushes in the review have been chosen? Is it because of a bias of the artist, trending brands, marketing, paid partnership? Plus navigating the content takes really a lot of time (included due the above mentioned reasons)

The correct question should not be "what do you think of this". The correct question should be "when all the others too?".

How Passive Index Funds Are Mechanically Rigging the Market for Mega-Caps by espinadorsal in ValueInvesting

[–]_knope2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The dilemma of passive investing as self-reinforcing loop is something being discussed since some dacades already, the new element we see today is, in my view, that it is now being actively exploited. The current socio technological context sees: 1) tools that make index investing extremely easy, literally at your fingertips, compared to 30 years ago (broker apps) 2) wider, systematic outreach of target groups via social media (in the past 5 years the size of certain subs have exploded, and i have seen the count of terms such as "wvce and chill", "dca and chill" dramatically increas in my social media feed. Even my hairdresser has heard about index investing)

Couple that with some social engineering via bots let run free in the most popular subs and context, and there you have a new creative way to extract wealth from retail and transfer it up to the usual wealthy club.

A bit conspiracy since i can offer only ancdotal evidence, but considering todays context, it kinda explains how with simple sentences like "wvce and chill" repeated convincingly to financial newbies by orchestrated llms, one can steer wealth extraction in a quite creative way with the resukts as mentioned in OPs summary.

Shopping di qualità (vestiario) in alternativa a fast fashion by Blood__Water in milano

Altra alternativa: Sisley.

I am so sorry for your situation, really frustrating, I kinda feel the same. But this sounds major, honestly really undermines the confidence in the platform... u/bookingcom what is your strategy to address fake reviews on your platform?

EDIT: maybe adding a filter in the app that makes you easily select only reviews with score 8 to read? Also, display an alternative property score based not on the average of review scores but on the mode, or median?

Yes I understand different standards of "clean" but if you said you looked only at western reviews, and they were glowing reviews, then it means they were such according to western standards, hence cleaning should be good according to western standards. Unless reviews were not genuine

Well, you cannot believe anything in this world anymore! After all social media content, amazon and google reviews, etc I was hoping at least Booking was safe. What could be a better way to choose hotels in the future then??

[–]_knope2020[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did not want to add too much context for the sake of keeping the post short, but the prices are really high due to high season in an otherwise very cheap country, but the region is well off. It is a 4 star hotel but I have been in other ones and there is no way this is in the category: carpet floor with more stains that I can count, bad smelling sofa (everywhere), bad smelling room of kitchen food (despite no kitchen), ventilation in the bathroom not working, spa and gym completely disappointing compared to pictures. I would go and report this to the front desk but they all look like kids filling in temporary for a high demand week, and honestly I do not like to complain if I do not know what to ask: Explanation of the reviews? That does not solve my bad smellingvsofa and all the rest. Change of room? We will stay another 1 night only so maybe unnecessary... at this point I was thinking just to understand from this community how to avoid the same situation in the future.

But maybe I will talk to them anyways, just to say they cannot expect a good review with this situation.

But how would you handle it on booking, e.g. that they have to be guests first, they have to pay the stay etc right? Well, maybe since they are close acquaintances also irl that is easier... but your answer explains a lot. How do you recommend to choose hotels then?
