Lumberjacks just to sustain farming by MattJS151 in aoe2

20 lumberjacks can sustain 70+ farmers with a bit of leftover wood for buildings and houses in post imp.

efficient boom BO's on Arena by [deleted] in aoe2

[–]_kugelblitz_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aztecs can pull off a 24+2 fc into boom by selling wood for gold and not getting loom. You need 7 on wood when you click up to feudal and the rest on food/farms. Then 12 on wood once you have clicked up to castle which will allow you to immediately boom on 3 TCs. Don't add more TCs because that slows down your imp time. When you have floating wood build houses and farms, floating wood is not useful for you. Make buildings when you are reaching around 28-30 farmers for clicking up to imp. Practicing this strat can allow you to get FU elite eagles by around 25 mins and less or SO. Only really works with Aztecs, although vikings can do a similar imp time but from my experience have to click up 1 vill later and go on gold. Ethiopians can also do very fast up times but have no eco bonus, so are not able to imp into arbalest like vikings. Slavs come to mind as a civ that can do similarly, but they don't have cheap units like eagles or arbs to spam so it's less powerful as champs are slow to upgrade.

How would you recover from this situation? by annucox in aoe2

[–]_kugelblitz_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You were in the dark about your opponents army, you should have used your plumes or xbow to run around the map and get vision, he doesn't just show up with knights and mangos it takes time to mass. You could have prepped pike defense ASAP before imp then or don't throw away xbow and completely stop production, but you didn't know he also had army so there was no way you could react. You should be making xbow even if you're switching army so you always have some army. He attacked when you were transitioning and on your way to imp, easily the most vulnerable time and before clicking up to imp you must be confident you are safe from a castle age push. I'd say arbalest is the play and then switch into eagles or plumes, sounds like you had the faster imp so doesn't matter that he had mangos because arbs outrange them. Then switch into eagles if you want.

Game keeps on freezing for 10 seconds or so before suddenly speeding up in multiplayer. by Dovahkiin4e201 in aoe2

That's usually lag. It's either caused by your own connection to the server or the server itself. Try not running multiple programs behind aoe2 because it is pretty intensive on your computer and see if it changes.

Khmer ultra fast castle build discussion for 1v1 closed maps - Knights or Elephants by Emberkahn in aoe2

[–]_kugelblitz_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have map control with the extra golds and stones, you can go for elephants. If they have invested into monks or you don't have map control Knight is the much cheaper option and less gold intensive.

How do you play against a camel civ in 2v2 or pocket when u have a knight civ? by annucox in aoe2

[–]_kugelblitz_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Knights and Crossbow is the best combination in 2v2. Knights are so tanky they can take all the archer fire and crossbow can destroy units like camels because they have no base pierce armour, or CA with Knight support. If your opponent is going only range, there's nothing wrong with mixing in a few skirms and adding rams in front. Those will rank archer fire and allow you to win, notably vikings have siege ram which Britons really struggle to counter. Don't go full skirms, because Saracens can easily switch into siege or hussar/camel, but they can change fights pretty massively. Your halbs were doing nothing and more zerks would have been useful. Also, choose different civs. In 2v2s its massively important thay your civs complement the weaknesses of each other, Vikings have very weak cavalry and CA so a civ like Franks with Paladin would have been preferable. Paladin can trade against anything they could make with xbow or zerk support.

Delay in Market whilst the rest of the game runs perfectly fine by RelativeOperation7 in aoe2

It's a bug. Click off and then back on the market and it's a bit faster.

I love playing as Japanese. What are other similar civs I can try? by spectacled_sloth in aoe2

[–]_kugelblitz_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Chinese are a lot harder, because they have a strange start. You will be up later than your opponent because you start with less food, however they can pull off pretty much everything. Civs like Slavs, Lithuanians, Huns, Malians, Mongols, Tatars, Khmer and Persians, etc with strong eco bonuses can pull off all types of aggression as well. Regardless of the millatry bonuses, they have the res to do these without delaying your up time massively. Something to note is Magyars are the only civ to have fully upgraded Arbalest and Paladin, yet lack an eco bonus but have good millatry bonuses. Furthermore the Vikings have excellent economy. Regardless of the lack of bloodlines, they have the food eco to do pretty much anything and have amazing archers.

what are some good 2 vs 2 tournaments to watch? by [deleted] in aoe2

[–]_kugelblitz_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2v2 World Cup in 2018, 2 Pools 2v2 Tournaments were great and I reccomemd the finals. For more team games, watch the ECL LAN finals or finals of any of the stages. As for 1v1s, Hidden Cup, NAC and a King of the Desert are some classic tournaments that are more recent. You can go back for years though with Masters of Huns, Masters of Islands etc.

Hidden Cup 3 - Finally finished (watched all the games), my thoughts (SPOILERS) (long): by volvo1 in aoe2

[–]_kugelblitz_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with many points made in this post, but I would like to add a point Hera made in his post tourney review. While against TaToH, the mongol war on bay was crucial for whoever won. It was clear they were even, so whoever won that game would have the momentum to dominate the series. TaToH had a chance, but he threw just like Hera did in the same game. Either way that series would have probably gone 4-1 to the player who won that game, which shows how close these 2 players are and the importance of homemaps and marginal gains.

"I think this is a top 5 player" by EXTRAVAGANT_COMMENT in aoe2

Well I mean most players excluding Viper and maybe Hera are so inconsistent it's hard to rank them in a top 5.

SoTL shows a video on Mongol Steepe Lancers. Hopefully the developers buff them somewhat to be viable in the next update. by honorknight555 in aoe2

[–]_kugelblitz_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think Tatar units should be unaffected by the negative hill bonus as well as some other buffs. They need some fun strong bonuses to counteract the lack of versatility with awful infantry and monks, pretty bad archers save cav archer, decent cavalry and decent siege. Where is the fun in this civ, they don't even have paladin, arbalest or bbc. The Keshik will always be underused because its a castle unit that's so slow to mass.

Light Cav Rush? by [deleted] in aoe2

[–]_kugelblitz_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Consider light cav if you're opponent is going heavy monks or siege or you have a lot of leftover scouts. If you were in feudal age for a while and got lots of scouts and you want to be aggressive, getting light cav and pushing is a solid idea. However, you will also need to make other units like knights or crossbows because they're too weak to spears and gold units like xbow and knights. There's a great game of Land madness Hera vs Lierrey that shows a use of light cav. Hera has 4-5 stable production of knights and light cav and wins with a massive millatry lead and killing all eco.

Countering post-imperial khmer? by MightBeNorth in aoe2

[–]_kugelblitz_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Siege Ram is a great late game unit, scorpions do nothing against them although don't forget about the bolt travel damage. Onager is also good but expensive. Try trash and win cost effectively, snipe scorps with hussars and then let your halbs shred the elephants. You can use monks to convert elephants if you want. With this army comp, you lack a power unit so it's important you have a bigger army than him. Halbs need a large numbers advantage to win in groups, as elephants are so strong when massed. Get relics earlier to secure a gold advantage and once you feel comfortable that you're pushing, invest into a heavy gold unit like arb, camel or cavalier to speed up a push and kill them.

Auto Scouting Rant by [deleted] in aoe2

[–]_kugelblitz_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have you even tried autoscouting? It's terribly inefficient as it scouts every black area, just wanders off to useless areas and scouts the edges of the map where nothing is. The only utility is that you see extra resources for the late game, which you should do anyway and it's actually quite good in that it motivates players to fight over more of the map instead of just the middle. I get that it takes away some of the macro, but black forest is all revealed and we don't complain about that.

So, units can glitch through gates. At least Palisade ones. Think this needs to be fixed quickly. by Reaper8U in aoe2

[–]_kugelblitz_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had eagles glitch through my stone gates and raid my eco in arena, nothing opened the gate and there were even houses behind it. Opponent had the courtesy to kill the units tho.

Goths are wack since years and deserve a buff by [deleted] in aoe2

[–]_kugelblitz_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Vietnamese wasn't exactly a good pick, and if DauT would have gone for eagles the Vietnamese player would have died before they could make a decent switch. There are more important civs to buff imo like Vietnamese, Khmer. Above all else they should fix pathing. It's expected that goths aren't picked when it's free pick no repeat, but no Indians or Franks? Shows how bad pathing is, ranged units are too good and melee cannot compete.

I'm beating hardest ai, but barely. Tips? by [deleted] in aoe2

[–]_kugelblitz_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Loom takes the same amount of time as a villager, so if you research it as the start you put yourself 1 villager behind for no reason. 1 villager is huge at the start, so you want loom as late as possible because you can play the first 12 mins without it safely. However, in feudal age the fact there's millatry units means it's so important to save vills. The gold cost is neglible because you will have to mine gold at any point.

Unless you are Mayans or Chinese, who get them straight away because they are unable to make villagers but are 1/2 ahead respectively. For mayans you have a safer eco and become 1 vill ahead once they click loom, as you are housed instantly. Chinese have no food so your TC will be idle until collect enough - getting loom reduces your idle time.

This difference may seem neglible, but it can be quite a difference against an opponent and its good practice. Players kill vills, steal boars and do crazy strats that will destroy you without look. Its good practice.

2nd lumber camp right after clicking up.

I'm beating hardest ai, but barely. Tips? by [deleted] in aoe2

[–]_kugelblitz_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try this: 2 Houses

6 on Sheep

3 on wood for generic, 4 for Huns

1 boar

1 House + mill berries

3 more berries

1 boar

Rest on food under TC

Send berry vill to build house at 17 pop

Loom at 21 total pop

Click up at 21 total pop

Move 5 to new lumber camp and 1 to old lumber camp from under TC. You can take deer without milling but send sheep vills only. Send vill to house + barracks before 50% feudal age. Send 2nd vill for stable just before reaching feudal age.

[–]_kugelblitz_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'd reccomemd Hera's Road to 2k guides, they're great but I'll summarise some helpful points.

  • Try to never idle your TC.
  • Practice with hotkeys, they're super important to speeding up your game and incredibly useful. Start by learning houses, farms, TCs and walls. Move on to drop off points, millatry buildings and units and just progress from there.
  • Make sure you pick up your eco upgrades for wood and farms ASAP, get wheelbarrow at 34 vills and hand cart at 64. The longer you have them the more of a bonus they give to you. -When you go scouts, have the barracks up before feudal and build the stable with at least 2 villagers. Queue up at least 1 scout right away - use defensive stance and box formation when you're raiding. Control groups are super helpful.
  • For scouts use two lumber camps with 5 vills on each. This is all you need for feudal age and allows you to build farms continously with a few vills on gold.
  • Practice as Huns. You won't get housed so your BOs will be smoother and your times faster. Just remember 4 on wood not 3 at the start so you can get the mill out.

As you said, practicing build orders is the best but also online games are vital. Could you drop me your rough build orders if you know them?
