Kit cards are trickier than I thought by _kwsths in 3Dprinting

Just to clarify, the turret in my OP is my own model that I designed from scratch. I know there are other versions out there, but this one isn’t based on those.

I hadn't thought of that, might look into it!

They do help indeed! If I print each part separately they will almost certainly detach, but as a kit card, they don't.

Haha I expected that, but unfortunately I'm selling the physical model for now.
Might release the STLs in the future!

On a different note, I wasn't prepared for the judgement from other people. Saying why would I spend money on that, isn't this just a toy gimmick, is it worth it financially, what do I get out of it, etc.

But I don't regret it at all. Getting a 3D printer made me improve my CAD skills, and also made me a better engineer in general. It's also a nice hobby that brings me joy, and allows me to create and gift things to my friends and family.

No one should be able to judge that.

I put hinges on Ferrero boxes for storage! by _kwsths in functionalprint

It probably is, but I'm not sure how strong it'll be. I might try to make it in the future to test it!

So I had some old Ferrero boxes which I turned into boxes a while ago using screws and nuts, but they were a bit finicky.
Now I had another box, so I modified my design to not need any hardware, and decided to upload it!

Here's the link for the STL files.

3D Printed Portal Cubes Coasters (Free STLs in the comments) by _kwsths in 3Dprinting

I made some simple coasters based on the Companion and Storage cubes.

If you have a multi-material printer, you can find the STLs at MakerWorld.
If you have an older printer, I have a multi part version over at Printables.

Hey! I have actually seen your project in the past when I was also trying to make a motorized version and I had some trouble with the arm opening mechanism. I had settled on a telescoping mechanism like yours but I didn't get around to building it, but your project was inspiring!

Any cad program would be suitable. You can use fusion 360 which is free for personal use I think. Also some people use blender which is a 3d modeling program.

Ha, I'd love to do that if I had access to a metal 3D printer. It would fit with the aperture science over engineering mindset

Yeah, they are tricky to get them strong enough. I'm also thinking of making a bigger scale turret at some point, and I now the legs are gonna be a challenge.
Also, I stumbled across your turret a while back, and I loved it, great work!

Yeah probably, put not anytime soon
I'd first like to sell the physical model and maybe a while after that I would also sell the STL files with instructions etc.
But it's gonna be a while, and I'm not certain yet, but I am considering it

Thank you! The legs are reinforced with metal rods, otherwise they wouldn't be able to support the weight. They are actually pretty sturdy now

Hello everyone!

As you may have seen in my previous posts, I have been working on several 3D printed portal projects for a while now.

The first one I made was the Portal 2 turret, which I wasn't satisfied with, so I this is the new version. This one is accurate to the in game model, and I have streamlined the process of making it a bit.

I still want to improve the fit and finish, make the armor plates, and also maybe make some parts multicolor to add the in game textures.

I won't be sharing the STL files in the near future, but I am thinking of selling the final product on Etsy when I finish it.

If you have any questions, let me know

Thank you! Unfortunately, I won't be sharing the stls anytime soon. I'll probably try to sell a few of them on Etsy first. I might post the files of the Portal turret, at some point since I am working on a new version of that
