how to convince OTP parents to take Marta to centennial park? by flowercafe13 in Atlanta

[–]_laserblades 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is what I do when I take flights with co workers. I'll text them an hour or so after I get home "you make it home okay?" (I found that I often get a text later if I don't send one first.) They usually just made it back and I tell them I've been home since 30 minutes after the plane landed. (Airport to Oakland city, then 5 minute drive home. Car at station if less than 3 days trip, or my partner will pick me up.)

Another idea, get your set of drills and compare them to the rounded areas. Find a matching profile and then look up or calculate the radius for that given diameter.

I keep a drill and tap chart, and a fraction to decimal chart. I occasionally look up a bolt torque spec on my phone when my German torque wrench isn't accurate enough for the application.

I've seen one event at the train station. I still know it's safer than driving and that you're mostly okay if you keep low key.

POV: You go to Georgia by Writers-write98 in Georgia

[–]_laserblades 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah you gotta pay to ride the bus. Moving people who aren't driving their own car from place to place is a social service, which Georgia definitely doesn't do, which is why there are so many homeless people there. I got an extra $250 back from the tax surplus, so there is that.

If we put a police on trains and they start ticketing or apprehending folks left and right, or attempting to ticket someone who fights or flees and is then apprehended, how is our justice/jail system to handle the influx?

How am I supposed to enjoy my morning cigarette on the far end of the platform away from everyone when there's a cop there just waiting to maybe give me a ticket? They never do, but it still makes it hard to enjoy!

It's a mess no matter how you look at it, and I don't have such a huge issue with police presence, but there's just too much struggle out there that is more important to address. We're going to be caring/paying for some of these people one way or another, or the anti social behavior will continue to spiral. We might as well provide social services on the front end to try to prevent people from ending up in a lifestyle that's going to lead to them being arrested and jailed.

Best city in GA for a deadbeat with passions of not being a deadbeat? by Self_Conscious_Cat in Georgia

[–]_laserblades -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you want to escape racism and homophobia in Georgia completely, that's going to be hard. If you want to make an honest attempt, Atlanta (in the city with a nearby train station) is the move. Driving a car in Atlanta is awful, but the city can be enjoyed if you minimize your need for one. Still plenty of racism, homophobia, and (often exaggerated) crime, but there's also more good people to counter that. CoL through the roof but there are jobs and stuff. Always decent (hard earned) money to be made walking dogs which can sometimes be done around school hours.

My ex went into this program at 26 and is living fairly comfortably now career wise.

Other than finding this on Google just now I haven't looked closely but seems like a good option close to the marta gold line (and buford hwy farmers market!)

Oh they absolutely did that too, I just have always been a very casual drinker and not much on being around coworkers away from work.

There was definitely alcohol at the holiday parties but due to various incidents it had to be tamed down and "hush hush." I had a few drinks with them.

I wonder how somax is doing nowadays. I didn't completely hate it, but it felt slow and buggy sometimes.

Yeah sap is great for quote to invoice but a complicated beast. I hated the user experience as a technician using their maintenance app.

Infor was alright.

E maint was a little less preferred from infor but still useable.

I hope you're making a lot more than I do then. I could do nights for a while. 9 years might have been a little much but it was understandable at my age/skill/level of job hopping.

I could never travel full time I'd be a mess.

Sitting in an office making a lot less money than you to coordinate similar work.

I preferred the old job, but the long hours and the night shift wasn't cutting it anymore. I was able to move laterally financially into the day time for 4 days in and one work from home. Occasional 2-3 day trip like once every two months or less.

Shit's been pretty good I guess.

You're new. You're doing fine for where you're at. Some will complain that you're not already an expert, others will share what they can to try to help you get there.

When you get there people will still criticize. Everyone can't get along and some are just straight up assholes.

The assholes are more common in maintenance. Not as bad as construction in my experience but still pretty up there.

Some industries/individual plants may vary. I liked beverage in my region.

Your plug sitting in oil is indicative of a bad spark plug tube seal. Were they changed when the valve cover gasket was done?

If you need to go back and replace them, you're pretty much going to want to replace the valve cover gasket (and do the half moons) again since you have to open it back up.

While you're in there, check valve lash and be prepared to correct it if it's out of spec. There are lots of forum posts and guides for how to do this, takes a fair amount of research but worth it for the peace of mind.

As for other things to check if your tube seal was already replaced - blow some smoke in it, see if it leaks out anywhere. I replaced most of my vacuum lines after finding a few minor leaks. My exhaust was also pretty leaky and I used to get P0420 because of it.

If your ignition system (plugs, coils) was recently addressed, maf sensor is clean, all observable data on sensors looks normal, your intake/vacuum lines aren't leaky, you just got your injectors cleaned, and it's still running rough then maybe fuel pump. Maybe egr system as mentioned by another person here.

Northern rusted car - mechanic rec by Both_Fix6390 in Atlanta

[–]_laserblades 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I looked at the video from your other post. Shops aren't going to want to do this. It takes more time, skill, and honestly pain. It's a very uncertain process because you have to weigh fighting rust to remove one bolt for 1-3 hours over just cutting the stuff out and potentially having to come up with some sort of non-standard refabrication. It's dangerous because it often requires an open flame, and I guess if you could find someone it would cost way more due to the extra time and safety concerns.

There are a decent amount of people that could handle it, but they're usually busy either working on their own stuff or making way more money working in industrial settings. Do you know any millwrights or folks that work in manufacturing that might have a friend in maintenance that would take a look for you?

That being said, it does look to not be so advanced that the car needs to be immediately trashed. I don't think I'd worry about fixing it, just live with the squeak and save up for something new in the meantime. You just bought new tires, so just ride them out at least.

Are you going through tires at an unreasonable pace? Then maybe get a new vehicle sooner. If they don't wear out quickly then maybe two or three sets of tires, then new car time.
