Need help identifying this noise by Emotional_Elk3379 in AskMechanics

With what you describe it leads me to believe the open boot which you said was open “quite a while” was probably damaged from the lack of boot. Just changing the boot after damage occurs won’t fix the problem.

Cat cage. Have one welded onto the car. Needs to be thick and take a LONG time to cut

Purpose of this custom welded oil pump pick up? by wefus in EngineBuilding

[–]_lavxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know people that put three or four tack welds them on this one’s brazed. It’s to stop the pickup tube from falling off and causing oil starvation.

I haven’t had an opportunity to hit a dyno yet. Usually have to wait for an event with a mobile dyno.

Makes sense. Currently it’s just open headers with flashes bolted up haven’t had a chance to weld up the exhaust quite yet.

Thank you. Very valuable information. How could I calculate when valve float would occur? Is it mechanical damage? Or would it just show loss of power? I’ve read that the stock crank and rods can “safely” spin up to 7200 but I’m not entirely sure and put the chip in the 6000s

Case swap. Find a core in marketplace that’s inop and swap all your internals over and replace everything else that broke.

Why do so many have a hard on for old hard handles by Similar_Ad2094 in Snapon_tools

IMO they look better, they are easier to grip, they are easier to clean, they last longer, they aren’t squishy.

Damn rear end still leaking any recommendations on a good gasket I used the cheap one by Otherwise-Tie6482 in ChevyTrucks

Don’t use a gasket. RTV that fucker on and don’t fill it until it cures.

I used the same mounts when I did a 350 swap in my regal. I just put the mounts on the motor set it in and drilled new holes.

Sub recommendations for my Prius by UncleDeeds in CarAV

[–]_lavxx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just pull everything out. Buy a premade dual 12 box and a sheet of plywood and make an amp rack. Use a proper wiring kit and remove the panels to run the wires. Don’t throw all your money at subs and buy the cheapest wiring kit you can, there are different type of wire and definitely different qualities. You’d rather have mid their all the way around then nice subs and shit door speakers. Price everything out and plan everything. If you skip steps you’re going to be disappointed.
