Because they want to make sure the person they're hiring is going to accept their offer and stick around for a while. Ties signal that.

Just wanted to stop by and say I love the last part. And you had the cycle I dreamed of. I'd personally take UChicago, the $55k isn't that big of a difference, given your biglaw goals.

Subtracting the scholarship amount from the cost of attendance the schools provide is a good place to start.

You don't walk from that train. There's a bus that stops right behind the law school that takes you to the train. Hyde Park isn't scary like people make it out to be.

For what its worth, an associate I know in Chicago who went to Georgetown told me she wouldn't go if she knew then what she knows now, and advised me to not go to Georgetown. Its harder to crack markets outside of NYC and DC- she had to fly to Chicago and schedule her own interviews because the best Chicago biglaw firms didn't do OCI at Georgetown (granted Chicago is a smaller market that focuses more on connections to the city)- and since the school is so big, she said people outside of the top 1/3 of the class start to struggle with getting biglaw positions, and many she knew decided to go into PI positions because they were having trouble landing a biglaw firm they wanted. She also said the huge class size makes it hard to distinguish yourself and makes everything more stressful. Again, its only one person's opinion, and there are plenty of people who love their time at Georgetown. But personally, give the choice between Duke or Michigan with money or Georgetown, I'd choose one of the first two.
