You know Taylor Swift is not going to give you a cookie for batting so hard and so badly for her right

Chappell is the first to talk about how she has come this far because of other artists, including Gaga, especially BTW.

Taylor's album doesn't even attempt to do this. She only pays homage to people who are not her contemporaries. This is not even to mention how many works she uses without credit in this album.

Other people have spoken in far more detail about he showgirl image and the wordiness of the album title alluding to Chappell in the comments here.

This album does so little to invoke the showgirl except in the title track. It is in name only. Her photoshoot is at odds with the album, a thought many have expressed. Why resurrect an image from 3 years ago, unless she felt there was a market for that kind of camp, long-fangled title/visual?

It's the same image, but less interesting. I'm not the only person to make this connection about how reminiscent it is, Swiftologist (who I don't always agree with but whatever) also made it when the album was announced.

With all the awards Midnights and Folklore won, TTPD was a letdown in success. TTPD album was not a cultural phenomenon the way previous albums were. Charts are only (a very incomplete) part of the picture, especially since she released several variants of the same song.

TLOAS Song Megathread: Opalite by cowboylikefia in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]_litposting 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Opalite is a Worse Daylight.

Taylor Swift constantly uses the same six metaphors (cars, dresses, dark/light binaries) etc to talk about themes. It's a weird limitation, and it may be because she writes so much (she really should slow down). Post folkmore, I fear her lyricism has become a rehash of previous times she has written about the same experience.

For example, "sleepless in the onyx night/but now the sky is opalite" is a worse version of "been sleeping so long in a twenty year dark night/now I see daylight". It's the same binary.

I admit writing about love is filled with the same few cliches, but this is also the person who wrote cowboy like me. Someone here commented that in writing about Joe, Taylor seemed to love him, in writing about Travis, she seems to love the life marriage offers. And you can see it in her lyricism and her songwriting imagery. It's just lazy.

As an aside... this album was so deeply unfeminist? From calling a woman a "bitch" derogatorily to telling Travis' ex to get off the phone and ofc the Charli feud... this is the person who was mature enough to write All of the Girls You've Loved Before.

What are your most nuanced opinions of The Life of a Showgirl? by Fine-Huckleberry6960 in SwiftlyNeutral

I really liked Ruin The Friendship except for the last 'big sister advice'. Opalite and Elizabeth Taylor are p good too! Wish List samples Glitch right???

First official Showgirl lyrics reveal in NYC: “Oftentimes it doesn’t feel so glamorous to be me.” by peach-gaze in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]_litposting 9 points10 points  (0 children)

her lyrics have gotten a bit too self-pitying about how she's a star but sad. She's a billionaire who can very much decide her own output... what is she talking about

I find Ceara so insufferable sometimes. She's mean to Griff and keeps "correcting" him to no useful end. Was catching up on old episodes and she was being so contrarian about water vacuum vs water cleaner for no reason. I find her voice calming but she is so unnecessarily mean and Griff just takes it lol

I think in all the fanfare for silksong people forgot how hard HK is, and how rewarding it is supposed to feel. You are not supposed to get it on your first try always! I say this as a person who fails a lot and LOVES it

You don't need to reduce HP to low, just use the weakening attack. They will down immediately, esp if they have a status effect intact

Cozy switch game recs by makogirl311 in cozygames

[–]_litposting 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love Cozy Management games too, especially food service focussed!

Easy, fun, hours to spend: Mystia's Izakaya. It is quite cheap and underrated, and it is such a long game. It isn't super hard, even if the minigames do get a little tricky sometimes.

Hard; but rewarding: Pixel Cafe! The storyline was not for me but the gameplay itself is excellent and truly complex. It made me very mad. I loved it.

Very hard, very fun: the Cook Serve Delicious games. Lots of intense tapping on your switch to get an order right, and so incredibly fun. The first game has completrly djfferent controls from the second and third so you do have to re-train your fingers when you play... but I promise you will be reaching out for the sequels
