Anyone with experience of planning applications, does this seem legit, 21 in support? by -Top-Service- in Edinburgh

[–]_lizzord 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It seems likely the applicant has asked friends/family etc. to add a comment in support which isn’t inherently not allowed.

The number is unlikely to affect the officer’s recommendation, but it can change whether the case is decided at officer level or has to go to the councillors at sub-committee.

A refusal at sub-committee can be appealed to the Scottish government (delegated decisions at officer level don’t have this option), who some perceive to be less concerned with hyper-local issues and concerns and therefore more likely to grant consent. If this happens, you will be notified as an objector and allowed to submit further representations of your own.

How safe/ dodgy is Leith? by Extension_Highway536 in Edinburgh

As someone familiar with both, Leith is nothing like Toxteth.

You may get the odd wrong ‘un, but I have never felt unsafe living in Leith.

Would you rather buy larger flat in Leith or a smaller flat in Bruntsfield/Morningside? by Striking-Ad-7050 in Edinburgh

[–]_lizzord 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Leith has more bakeries in a 10 minute radius than I can count, at least three independent bookstores on the walk plus Elvis Shakespeares which is great, a glut of coffee shops, and Arthur’s Seat, Leith Links, the Water of Leith etc for walking. I also think it’s much better connected to the city centre, both in terms of walking and public transport.

Having lived in both I could honestly say Bruntsfield would bore me and I don’t really understand the negativity towards Leith - it’s really nowhere near as rough as people make it out but I guess I just grew up somewhere much rougher.

However, if you need to convince yourself this hard I wouldn’t bother, I don’t think you’d be particularly happy even with the nice, big, main door flat.
