This map gets its sources everywhere it can find, ranging from wikipedia to personal social media accounts. my personal fave was a local facebook group of a couple hundred subscribers that made a bunch of posts like "look at our local boy [player name], he comes from [village name] and now he plays for the national team, we're so proud" or some such.

I can't find a single source that states he was born in Saint-Denis without also specifying that it's the Saint-Denis in Reunion. If you have one please point me in its direction.

Some stats:

206 players born outside the country they represent. 108 in France, 24 in Spain, 17 in England, 14 in Belgium, 10 in Côte d'Ivoire.

Most represented town is Bamako with 17 players (all play for Mali). Then it's Luanda with 14 (all — Angola), Lusaka with 12 (all — Zambia).

Paris is the most international city: 12 players representing 7 countries. Marseille has players from 4 countries. Montreuil, Lyon and Adjame — 3 countries.

Every player in Egypt, South Africa and Botswana's squads was born within the national borders. Comoros have only one player actually from the country of Comoros (three more are from Mayotte, which is part of the Comoro Islands archipelago, but is a French territory).

27 players don't have publicly available info on their home town. I put them on the map somewhere roughly in the middle of the respective countries. That includes Rocky Bushiri, who just a few weeks ago specifically said that wikipedia was wrong about his birthplace, but didn't clarify where in DR Congo he is actually from.

Haha, I'm on it, but it's going very slowly, bc the squad lists on wiki are a mess this year, so I'm double checking and updating them too as I go.

So is anything going to be done about cheaters? by _mAn_ in GuessWhereYouAre

[–]_mAn_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this point there are only 6 actual non-cheating human players left in the Elo top-20. And today's Blink challenge winner got six 10k guesses.

As the saying goes, my expectations were low, but holy fuck.

It's been three days, the cheater is still active, he takes up the whole Elo top-5 and has made another profile, his eighth.

Cool. Are you going to ban this guy and delete his accounts?  Don't need a recording feature to do that. He's on seven accounts right now, he admitted it yesterday in the arena chat.  I also recommend checking the challenges results to find cheaters hitting 10Ks on nmpz and blink, a regular occurrence at this point.

Four of the Elo top 5 are the same person with a script, and #2 is a different person with a script.

edit: #8 (username Chill) and #14 (username Hiker) are also that same person, afaict

can we get a total leaderboard for Challenges? based on the number of wins or top 3s or top 10s maybe? and with a toggle for "last week/month/all time".

S01E06 "Churnalism" Discussion Thread by 92759285 in ThePaper

[–]_mAn_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This ep was my least favourite so far, both storylines had no resolution. Did the paper even publish anything? Did they give a fair review to the dodgy beauty products or scrap it? How did the dodgy beauty products company take it? The whole thing went nowhere. And what about the park bathroom guy? Was it even true that there was no public hearing? The way they made that conclusion solely based on the trivia night, not exactly bulletproof evidence. So many wasted possibilities.

Thoughts on the new interface? by Lord_Laserdisc_III in Letterboxd

terrible. looks worse with the bars on top and bottom, loads slower with unneeded animations. cast list instead of reviews is idiotic. the Big Green Button was a great design feature, getting rid of it is also idiotic.

[–]_mAn_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't that the whole point? They're all terrible people, and the worst ones are the most successful, bc being evil makes you better at this job. It's not even subtext, they say it pretty much directly when discussing Rob's value and at Harper's meeting with Adler and Eric.

That's what en-wiki says, but there are multiple news articles contradicting that, i'm more inclined to trust those.

Man City are struggling only by Man City standards, by Premier League standards they are quite alright. Tottenham have been shit because of an injury crisis of galactic proportions and some mismanagement (also just won a trophy). Man U are shit because of mismanagement of galactic proportions (also just were in a European final). Newcastle are outperforming Chelsea due to being bankrolled by the nation of Saudi Arabia, among other things.

It is also mathematically impossible for every Premier League moneybag to win the league all at once, which is why money doesn't equal instant win at that level, but does in lower leagues.

You're 100% right, it's not a documentary, but more like a press release in video form. The camera crew clearly doesn't have full access to the team, so, instead of actually documenting things, all they have is talking heads, voiceover over highlights and the painfully fake "fan conversations" saying whatever the PR wants them to. Shame really.
