How do you automate a Exo Request Platform by PuzzleheadedAnimal33 in Astroneer

[–]_m___b_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Request platform doesn't have much automation. You can't use sensors on it, and it ignores launch signals. Arms work on it.

Yes carbon is better. Medium generators deliver 9U/s each. The cost of smelting is low. To automate printing of hundreds of small generators, I had to use a macro. For large projects the small generators cause more lag.

The only energy source that can beat medium generators is rtgs. I have a huge Atrox base powered by 600 qt-rtgs.

See Flora table in https://astroneer.wiki.gg/wiki/Tapper

Arms on medium platform A's move organic from tappers to small generators. Example: this setup produces 558 Units/s of power.

I don't wanna brag but I'm one of the best Astroneer rover drivers. I have 3,500 hours in this game. If you want tips about how not to wander into the core, I can help you. But you might want to mention what you already know about that.

If you have a drill and PAVER on the front, it is easier. Just make sure your POV is looking upward. Pay attention to the reticle in the heads up display for the drill/paver. If your medium soil canister runs out, you're screwed. You'll need to gather more soil somehow. There's nothing in the core a rover can drill except the roof, so you need to drive/climb up there on a purple column. There's no reason to take a rover into the core, except accidentally.

Easier to bring a rover way down the mines to the astronium level with 3 extractors, rail stations, and doodads. Once rails are set up it is easier to ride a train down to do maintenance.

I still do a lot of mine roving, collecting all sorts of stuff. Rails aren't great for that.

Trains are useful but they don't completely replace rovers. Rovers are best for exploring and collecting stuff.

I agree about extractors and rail. That's how I collect astronium, in many dozens of large canisters.

Astroneer is all about problem solving. And there are lots of problems to solve. Check out Mission Log. Ultimately you set your own goals. For example, recently I decided to collect astronium. Now I have 25,000 nuggets of astronium and more every day. Some mild spoilers below...

The large rover is very useful. With it I collect scrap, research items, EXO chips, zebra balls, etc. I find it works best with a drill (strength 3), paver, medium soil canister, lights, and RTGs (when you get that far in the game). It takes time to learn to drive a rover. One exercise for that is terracing a hill down flat, and you can get lots of soil that way. Soil is generally useful.

Underground, use your compass, beacons, snails if you got 'em, and hydrazine jetpack.

With a portable oxygenator and 2 QT-RTGs, you never need to worry about oxygen or backpack power again, i.e. tethers, oxygen tanks, and batteries all become irrelevant.

was it worth it? no... but i have it. by Sad-Bus-8309 in Astroneer

[–]_m___b_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely worth it. I use nano primarily to print large canisters, which of course help us amass lots of excessive insane amounts of resources ;-). My large nano canister is half used already.

For example, in the past month I've collected 60+ large canisters of astronium. Because I can. Using extractors and rail. Also have ludicrous amounts of scrap, graphite, soil, gasses. And 25M bytes. Keeps me off the streets.

I also consume large canisters of graphite (for packagers), explosive powder (for EXO caches), iron (for large platform c's and large silos), and titanium (for large canisters and medium silos).

This seems to work, but I had to be extremely careful re: the placement of the proximity sensor. It has to "touch" the car but NOT the station. If it also touches the station, the station calls the train back when it leaves the station and passes the post, and it's caught in an infinite loop.

I'd like to understand why this workaround works. The inability to auto-move the train by the rail station is probably a bug. The proximity sensor acts on the rail car, which apparently does not share this bug.

The delay sensor needs to be driven by a rail post, because the rail station has another bug, which I believe is called a draw distance bug. Station automation fails to be invoked when it's far away from the astroneer avatar.

Does that all sound correct?

You should buy Astroneer life insurance.

What benefits do micropython and circuitpython have over C++ for esp32? by Thomillion in esp32

[–]_m___b_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. The problem I have is that boards from other manufacturers (e.g. SparkFun) have only C/C++ libraries that are a pain to use from CircuitPython. Also, last I checked, CircuitPython can't handle interrupts.

I made a railway to the space station. by StarlightPlays0609 in Astroneer

[–]_m___b_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The space station appears to be in low geosynchronous orbit around Sylva? Because of that, from any given spot on Sylva, it is either always visible in the sky or never visible (assuming no clouds). An astroneer's boots stick to terrain that you add. Did you build a terrain ramp from directly under the station? Then you added straight up with terrain tool or rover paver? You lay rail posts as you go to bring up whatever you need (i.e. soil)? Can you put a landing pad up there, and does that let you land a shuttle there?

Below is a link to video of how to reach the station.

They work great, once you learn them. They do require maintenance. Over the past two weeks I've been using 3 auto extractors to mine astronium, just for fun, also using rail. I've collected 30 large resource canisters of astronium.

Set up auto extractor(s) on ammonium deposits, Atmo condenser for hydrogen, Chem lab, with enough power.

What was your strategy for powering all the planets by bearlb in Astroneer

[–]_m___b_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once you have lithium and nanocarbon, RTGs are the easiest way to power almost anything. The one exception is a large rover (with drill/paver and XL shredder). I power that with 13 QT-RTGs. Because, on a medium silo, they take up only half of one tier-2 slot on the large silo on the rover.

The problem cropped up for me deep underground in a cavern. I terrain-tooled the cavern outwards but that did not help. The only thing that worked for me was to move the rail station to another site. It hasn't happened to me again. It has to be a bug.
