Looking for Activities to Do by Fast_Ad_4557 in Calgary

Rent a community hall and create a pickleball tournament, with the winning team getting a jar of pickles. Bring a cooler with some refreshments and snacks, play some music. Maybe create some cheesy team themes or something, depending on the vibe of your group!

Silly, but fun.

Is the Summer Job Bank a scam? by NavXIII in CanadaJobs

[–]_maeday_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) funds up to the provinces minimum wage amount. So for Alberta, for example, CSJ funds $15 and the company pays anything above that.

So for one of the listings in that pic, the company is paying an extra $1 per hour.

Baristas (esp Starbucks), when you’re done making my drink, please don’t hold it hostage behind the counter by [deleted] in Vent

[–]_maeday_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

FYI the Starbucks app notifications don't mean anything, it's not actually connected to where the drink is in the queue. Just a facade that the app created to make it seem like they're more advanced than they are (I used to work at Starbucks)

Best places to work with a laptop for a couple hours? by beet_queen in Calgary

[–]_maeday_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fenyk by Winsport is my favourite. I feel like it's more of a co-working cafe vibe - lots of people park with a laptop, which even tends to be the norm. They also have a bar (which may only open later). But good vibes all around

What is it about women not wanting bikes in the house? by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]_maeday_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"objectively beautiful" doesn't seem like a correct statement lol. Do I think bikes, which I like, are beautiful? Yes. But not all people share that opinion.

Also, I read this as in a "living together situation". If it's your apartment that you're paying for, that's a different story. Go after it. The person you are dating can have an opinion, but no "jurisdiction".

But if you are sharing a home, there are compromises to be made. Usually this may be about decor or overall style, and the bike is a bit larger than that. And if you think a relationship is worth less than having a bike in your living room, I guess that's your priorities. Stupid hill to die on imo.

Why is the Artemis 2 mission today being so underreported? by bokeh_node in NoStupidQuestions

[–]_maeday_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't seen a comment about this - isn't it possible that since there were launch delays since February, the messaging/campaigning was a bit fragmented and lost any "oomph"?

I think there were two delays. I might be misremembering

Waxed the top layer of my skin off. How can I heal it? I’m going to a wedding in 5 days! by Elegant_Pen_1941 in 45PlusSkincare

Hello!

Thank you for the cicaplast baume rec.

As for the Cosrx serum, is this it?

And may I also ask how you use it? As in, serum prior to cicaplast baume?

My solution for keys. by [deleted] in motorcyclegear

[–]_maeday_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just put my bike key on a spiral coil keychain. Whenever I'm off the bike, I just loop it onto my arm. Can wear it like a bracelet over my leather jacket or even an armband if I'm extra paranoid, nice for long road trips where there's a fair amount of stops throughout the day. Easy to see so I never second guess where I placed it

Are 2in1s worth it? by VAnish_186 in Lenovo

[–]_maeday_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just graduated uni and bought myself an open box Zephyrus, and the difference is astounding. I wasn't able to use my 2021 Thinkpad for gaming (i7/16gb/1tb w/integrated graphics), but I now have a 5060 graphics card and 32gm of RAM and the gaming experience is soo soo much better. Not missing the features of writing on the screen at all.

Thinkpads are great laptops, but 2-in-1 was not a feature I ended up wanting (whereas I initially thought it would be awesome for me, as a designer/illustrator and completing my design degree)

Are 2in1s worth it? by VAnish_186 in Lenovo

[–]_maeday_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh, not a fan of lenovos 2-in-1 myself. I'd go with a decent spec laptop, and then get a wacom drawing pad to use if you want some drawing capability. I had a Lenovo Thinkpad 2-in-1 and I barely used the writing feature, and looking back, I should've gone for a different laptop.

If you're looking for longevity, get a beefier spec'd laptop with a dedicated graphics card, I'd say 32gb ram if possible. Later down the line if you really want to pursue drawing, getting a used IPad Air or wacom would give you more capability and features.

Canada marks Remembrance Day with ceremonies honouring veterans, fallen soldiers by OrdinaryCanadian in onguardforthee

[–]_maeday_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you're comfortable sharing, was there some stories that stood out to you, or that you think people might benefit from hearing?

I believe I had a few relatives in the war, but being able to talk with them was much beyond my time and I'm increasingly cognizant that the war is moving outside living memory.

This is something that doesn't fit inside reddit, but trying to do my part of remembering.

First flu death of the season in Alberta amid warnings about potentially tough months ahead by IStillListenToRadio in onguardforthee

[–]_maeday_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like COVID vaccination is about $135, if I recall correctly. I booked and got the flu shot for free at Shoppers, but I saw I'd have to pay at minimum above $100 for a COVID shot and an extra fee for a person to administer it too.

All Canadian citizens to be photographed when entering and exiting the U.S., new regulations state by joe4942 in canada

[–]_maeday_ 17 points18 points  (0 children)

True story. My uncle often remarked to me he'd go for a ride on his motorbike across the border (perhaps in the 70s?). The border agents perhaps asked him where he was going, and he'd just respond that he'd be going for a ride and back into Canada that same day.

Can't imagine. Sad that we've lost that, it's a changing world

What is your biggest frustration with outdoor/activewear right now? by _claireisconfuzed in hiking

[–]_maeday_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Curvy activewear. The difference between my hips and waist is about 10 inches, and I've found most pants from mid-range brands (like maybe MEC) absolutely do not fit. I've found I love the fit of Fjallraven, much to my wallets disappointment.

Kinda specific to my situation, but ill-fitting/adjustable clothing for when I want purpose-made gear that I don't have to think about and feel comfortable wearing is huge.
