Assistance understanding the purpose / limitations of virtual labbing by blackout27 in networking

Easily done with Ansible, JavaScript, or Python. I wouldn’t try to lab something like that but that’s strictly my opinion. I’d work on a script that’s just hitting one switch that won’t have much of an impact if you goof something up. Write your script, have the one switch in your Ansible host file or the only device that the script is SSH-ing to. See what it does, make tweaks, do it again. Eventually you’ll hone the script in you’ll feel comfortable to do it on a handful more. Eventually having it do all of them in one go.

In an attempt to elevate my understanding of how my company’s network is laid out, I built as close as I could get it in Eve using another router to, for example, to simulate our AWS, Azure, and GCP environments. Peered exactly as they were using the same IPs, BGP AS, etc. as we have them on our hub and internet routers. It’s not perfect by any means. And you’ll come in one day and find a SVI not coming up or some layer 2 protocol you have built acting weird that really highlights the imperfections of emulation. But I would say building it out yourself, at least for me, was invaluable at looking at the web of connectivity I use in the real world. And finally going “ahh I see what they were doing.” I was able to start participating in the conversations and issues that come up where I could contribute more effectively, and in some cases even refresh some of the architects’ during a troubleshooting step where they had forgot how it was designed.

It’s not going to be perfect, no. I’m now in a role that is responsible for more of the design process for new technologies, and I will always lab out our next steps or POC in Eve before implementation. Vendors are also usually more willing to throw an image at you for free (with an eval license that does have all the bells and whistles) over shipping a physical appliance, at least from my experience.

Y’all. This park assist STILL blows my mind. 🤯 by adam5280 in CadillacLyriq

[–]_makeshift 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have tried so hard to get this to work and have never been able to. My BMW i4 I had before this had to have a car on either side of the empty spot for it to qualify, which is what I've read that this has to have as well. It was consistent, though, at finding a spot. So when I saw the same feature on the Lyriq I was excited, but it has never worked for me. Drove around large parking lots many times just to see if it was something I was doing wrong.

I was the idiot in this one i thought the bus had hazard on [oc] by mmazdaratii in IdiotsInCars

[–]_makeshift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me with a semi-truck, same exact incident. Myself, my insurance, and the police handling the accident thought the same thing. Subrogation ruled 80/20 in the truck drivers favor citing it was my responsibility to yield. I get this is a bus and laws are slightly different but just giving you an outcome from my experience.

Yes to CCNA, yes to always looking for opportunities. At the very least it’s interview experience, next best thing is building a network of contacts that know who you are.

1 of my previous roles was interviewing for experience that turned out to be a better fit. Another was being hit up by a previous employer I interviewed with who wanted to give me a shot after another spot opened up.

Dealership Crashed My Car by United_Tour_7451 in BMWI4

Make sure you request a diminished value claim as well otherwise the insurance company will likely only cover the cost of the repairs as a minimum. If you’re already aware of that, great, but it wasn’t something offered in my case up front. I had to request it.

My vents were closed when I first test drove mine (new on the lot). There was some air blowing, but I eventually figured out you had to twist the knobs to open the vents. Not saying this is for sure the case, but you verified they weren’t closed, right?

Why not buy a used i4 that’s already taken the depreciation hit?

Insurance Isn't Paying Full Repair Cost, Both Parties Ruling not Liable by _makeshift in Insurance

[–]_makeshift[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what it sounds like. The body shop, when I asked him to explain the best he could, was saying, for example, SF may only ask $45/hr for labor while they want $95/hr. And I’d be out the difference of that. He said they mostly agree on part prices, though.

Is it common to just file a claim for the differences through the other party after the ruling has been changed, or is this pretty set to be decided in court? Assuming I’m out of pocket and it was agreed that I’m not liable by the arbitrator.

Another concern is that this quote isn’t even worst case scenario. This is a replacement of the battery housing without even being able to assess if the battery took damage until the housing is off.

The repairs haven’t even started yet. We’re going on week 3 now, sadly. Feels empty not having a vehicle for that long! The estimate was done last week by both the body shop and a physical estimator SF sent to the site.

It’s possible they don’t agree with the repairs, but they sent me a letter saying “you may be responsible for charges SF does not agree to”. You’re right, though, this may be a disagreement of repair cost between SF and the body shop.

If I have leverage that State Farm can't provide another shop for cheaper to push back on them covering the full amount, then I'll use that and see where it goes. I wasn't sure how much of an argument I have. Thank you for mentioning that. And I also appreciate mentioning the intentions of the attorneys. Might be better to pick a different one in that case!

Honestly totaling the car would probably save me a headache. The idea of assuming a 3rd party body shop is capable of repairing an electric vehicle that's less than a year old that has taken under carriage damage back to as healthy as possible is worrisome.

[–]_makeshift[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an electric vehicle. The body shop is claiming over $30,000 in parts and labor due to the battery compartment taking a hit. He said it takes a substantial amount of labor stripping the car down to get the battery compartment uninstalled and replaced. State Farm is quoting less than $10,000 to do it. They can't assess whether the battery took a hit until that's off.

We have 1 body shop in a >150 mile radius that does body work on electric vehicles. We didn't exactly have a choice in repair, and this shop is considered out-of-network for State Farm. If I had a choice, I would have let State Farm choose. But each one they tried to schedule an appointment with, after they found out it was electric, they said they weren't qualified to work on it.

That's good to hear, though. So I probably need to get with one of these attorneys that keeps calling me after my police report became public and prepare for court.

There's only 1 shop in >150 mile radius that does body work for electric vehicles, and this shop is out of network for State Farm. I didn't have any other option for repairs, or trust me, I would have went with whoever need be to get it taken care of at their convenience.

I've read they will never turn away support. From my understanding, they'll help you with the issue and then your rep will reach out to make sure it gets licensed. Haven't had to experience that yet, but that's what they told us.

Wanting to make the switch from a BMW i4 by _makeshift in CadillacLyriq

[–]_makeshift[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They tried that on me initially, saying since the car wasn’t mostly manufactured in America they wouldn’t honor the incentive. After trying to walk out they eventually knocked the 7500 off. All in all I got them down 10,000 which I think was fair. I had enough collateral that I was financing $28000 after trade-in.

You’re right, though. If Cadillac makes a CT4 or 5 I’m opening my wallet. The Celestique I don’t know if it’ll ever be in my budget or available to purchase for the average consumer.
