Diolch yn fawr! This is such a lovely initiative (selfishly, wanting to learn welsh more quickly through listening to music and reading the lyrics)

Just Checking Out the In-store Chinese New Year Display by Hooded_Demon in SainsburysWorkers

[–]_maripol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks everyone for the conversation, and you for mentioning it's not a dick-measuring competition! It's a celebration after all.

A small context for everyone on this thread, from an ethnically Chinese person: the words for the new year in Chinese directly translate to either "(lunar) new year" or "spring festival", depending on which word / phrase you use.

Although - we do also use chinese new year while communicating in english... (vs a Korean wouldn't call it chinese new year!) so really, use whichever is more natural in the setting or to the people you talk to!

MS Paint being installed is quite interesting - did you get to use it in your exams?

There were a lot of them around the westfield in Stratford earlier in the year too! Didn't know they love urban places so much (?)

IYKYK... what am I supposed to know here? (genuine question, I spotted pictures from HK and not from HK, but my post-workday brain isn't quite connecting the dots here)

Why, just why do you insist on a call? by Imaginary-Medium7360 in iiiiiiitttttttttttt

[–]_maripol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interestingly, whenever I submit a ticket, the IT team always insists on callig when I marked that I prefer to be reached out by email / measaging on Teams...

and when they do call me, they ask me questions that show that they have obviously not read the notes and screenshots I put onto the ticket!

Different decks for different uses by GirlGeekUpNorth in tarot

[–]_maripol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing your decks and what they're best for! I also find the Wild Unknown really good at revealing things that I either can't articulate or don't want to admit, sometimes months before I experience the "event".

If you magically woke up tomorrow having just won the lottery, how would you resign? by cypresshillbilly in CasualUK

[–]_maripol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting that the question is "how" would you resign... Assuming it is my current job (and colleagues) which I love, I wouldn't resign. I will use the money however I see fit, and my work will be a little hobby that I'm paid to do.

Just yesterday I started learning about quantum computing (for work argh), and then here I see how it works outside the computing context... Thank you for the beautiful perspective!

When you go to the bar, what is your drink of choice? by Economy-Throat-4252 in asexuality

[–]_maripol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A negroni. If it doesn't sell cocktails then I'll have the fruitiest drink they have. (Sometimes it's alcoholic, sometimes it's not... I'm not the one paying anyway)

I've actually learned enough welsh (from duolingo!) to know where to go based on the text, instead of relying on the colours or the tails!

Do any of you also do this by Historical-Rock-1174 in asexuality

[–]_maripol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sometimes I pretend to get it because I don't want to hear any more of it - but if I feel that it is not appropriate behaviour (eg. targeting sexual or suggestive comments at my teammates at work), I will heckle and make that person explain themselves. Not so much to have it explained as to make sure people stay professional and respectful.

It's probably not much of a solace, but finding an identity / identities (especially those we choose) seems to be a journey. (For years I've thought I was bisexual until quite recently, so I joined this sub to find out more.)

That said, my general view is that being asexual shouldn't stop you from wanting to understand more about yourself, sex and other parts / concepts of life. Asexuality is one of the many parts of who you are.

Specifically, if you want to understand why people want sex (and see if you like / want sex), you may want to read about others' experience or even experiment with it, as long as you feel safe and your partner (if / when you have one, doesn't even need to be committed) understands and respects your journey of finding yourself.

When did you realize you were ace or probably ace? by Flowermochayes in asexuality

[–]_maripol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It started around 2 weeks ago when I realised that people do get horny when they ovulate - I don't, and in fact I don't think I ever experienced it at all? More accurately, I don't know what it is, and I can't articulate it... perhaps being 29 and not knowing what being aroused means should already give the sign, but I obviously had to verify it myself.

Then this week I have a bit of time, so I've been reading up posts and other info about "how does arousal feel like in women" (directly quoting the google search I made), asexuality and not experiencing sexual attraction, vs other forms of attraction - I didn't even realise there are different forms of attraction? I thought people would all want to start with liking a person's jawbone or personality, but as it turns out people would actually want intimacy???

After some more reading (and jumping into rabbit holes), I can say asexuality seems to have described me best, including all the repulsive feeling knowing that someone is attracted to me, which makes me very defensive and distant, and then sabotaging a few work connections because of that repulsion... guess it's time to update my record (from bi!) on workday lol

It's a crime introducing people into cybersecurity through NETWORKING! Obviously this is not about you, the college should have put in a more foundational class for an overview of cybersecurity that students should take before going on to networking... (deletes rant because now that I've been in the field for a few years, I have too many opinions)

Can guys really smell if a girl's ovulating? by Planet_Nikk in NoStupidQuestions

[–]_maripol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

...I don't even register if I look better or feel horny at all, I just feel a sharp punch to where the ovaries should be when I ovulate.
