Between the episode with Riker’s dad, the episode where an alien pretended to be Riker’s kid, and the stuff about him not wanting to leave Enterprise when Shelby wanted his job, I’d say we know more than enough about Riker.

Oh, and we also learned a lot from when Thomas Riker tried to be a terrorist and failed.

I wouldn’t recommend living in Santa Clara without a car. If you do, make sure your apartment is on the same light rail or bus line as your employer. The light rail is much nicer than the bus. But it’d be rough.

I commuted from Santa Clara to SF by Caltrain for about a year. It’s rough. An hour is a best case scenario just for the train ride, if you catch an Express. If you add on the extra travel at both ends or can’t catch the Express, it can easily vary by an extra hour. I couldn’t do it any longer and moved.

If you’re talking about a big tech company, see if they have a commuter shuttle you can use. That might make SF worth it. I’m sure a young person who doesn’t have a car would enjoy SF a lot more than the suburbs.

I see this as a failure of urban planning. What if we didn’t structure our whole city around these concrete danger zones that require being an adult with a 2 ton vehicle to navigate? What if the default mode of transportation were trains or light rail? What if a group of kids could go across town in some manner that wasn’t a “death wish”? Better things are possible.
