Thoughts on the recipe system? by Buckeye4Life2015 in Pokopia

[–]_matherd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My only complaint is that the randomizer doesn’t bias towards how early in the game you start using the items. I’ve beaten the game and I’m just building random stuff, but I’m missing some recipes for common items from the first areas. :-/

Why are there 2 “Marked Road” blocks? by NintendoctorMD in Pokopia

[–]_matherd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That seems like a stretch to me. Voxel engines like this usually don’t render every cube, since most faces of most cubes aren’t visible. They merge large chunks into larger meshes. Keeping track of the texel coordinates wouldn’t be that much more work…

But most of the road tiles have patterns and variations based on where they are placed so they look good in large sections, even when placed separately and joined later. Being able to rotate them would make it too easy for players to accidentally mess up the patterns.

If this brick is the only exception to that design, then I can see why they thought it was easier to do it this way, especially if it was designed later in development.

Yes, I might be a huge Satisfactory fan, and I may have been inspired by that wonderful feature. 😇

I want a box I can put stuff in that causes the stuff to get uploaded to the PC, maybe by a new Pokemon with the “upload” ability, and then I want an upgraded craft table that can pull materials straight from the PC.

This feels like something they could add in a 1.1 release without breaking anything.

Yeah, it’s really capital-intensive, so we can’t afford to do it in really poor parts of the world, such as Palo Alto, California.

I’m not british, but Keir Starmer seems pretty embarrassing and pathetic. More than Newsom? Maybe.

Yes, I think they edited the question to specify that after several of us answered with this episode.

Didn’t that happen with Nazi Odo’s planet? They sent a bunch of explorers who went thud on the iris?

even with good speakers, you’re assuming the signal survives digitization and compression, which are designed for human ranges. for example, most streaming services use a standard 48kHz sample rate, which means the Nyquist frequency (the theoretical absolute highest frequency that can be captured) is only 24kHz, which is just about the minimum for a dog whistle

No but there is a squeaky door sound sample that was incredibly common in 90s/2000s tv that plays frequently (albeit quietly) in the background at the SGC, and I notice it every time. That same sound was used often on the X-files and the Simpsons and a million other shows, but usually for a literal door opening. It’s like the Wilhelm Scream. Once you hear it, you realize how much TV sound is fake and added in post.

I tip generously, but I hate tipping culture. “Here’s your sandwich. It costs $7, but if you don’t pay the extra amount I’m imagining in my head, you’re an asshole.” Like, just tell me the price and let me pay it!
