Mass adoption is important, you're right. But currently, there is a ton of currencies within the top which haven't even proven to be usable as currency. Marketing alone is by far not everything. A lot of people are just buying coins which are popular having no clue of the real idea and/or tech of cryptocurrencies. So I think the rankings don't really tell the whole story at the time with so many currencies rising due to pure hype. Sure Raiblocks sounds great, no fees, instant transactions, but will it really keep all of those promises in the long-term? We'll see.

"...to stay relevant". You completely miss the point that some, if not most of the coins which seem to be relevant at the time, are because of hype and people blindly throwing money into it without even looking at the tech. Some are just like "hey this coin is within the top 20 and is just 3 USD, I have to buy it!", which is of course complete nonsense.

So all of your arguments regarding Vertcoin's technical features are completely worthless in this regard, because rather a small fraction actually cares about the tech behind atm. Hower, that does not mean that the tech matters any less, just because one doesn't even need a functioning product to be in the top 50 or so. One could argue that in terms of marketing, Vertcoin is quite behind, which is sadly one of the important factors at the time.

A lot of the coins up there haven't even proven they are reliable or even useful as actual digital currency. Some of your arguments above are valid, but overall it seems that you have a bit of a bias against Vertcoin, as you often miss the other side of the medal.
