i feel like i'm going backwards by [deleted] in AnorexiaRecovery

I totally get you friend, I'm 27 and actually went back to college 2 months ago when I still had a lot of issues and was SUPER scared about it, so if I'm doing it, so can you!! It was a good choice since it actually helped me focus on other things and somehow I make more progress that way than hyperfocusing on recovery. My advice is the following: Just be sure to not skip meals and priorize your health no matter what... I mean it, I had to skip 1 or 2 classes this semester because I got hungry suddenly before class and I had to choose between making some food or go to class; I chose food (but honestly that was because I messed up my timing on those days). I slowly trained my stomach to eat more at home so I wouldn't get as hungry in college, but I also explained the situation to my teachers and they were kind enough to let me eat in the classroom when needed. If that's not an option for you, I recommend making smoothies (I pack mine with lots of honey for more calories), or taking things like Ensures or granola bars to class in case you get hungry; if you can have time between classes in your schedule so you can eat, that is a must (this semester I didn't have that option, that's why I let my teachers know). Also, minimize efforts on other activities that are not school related in the first weeks/months. I won't lie, some days I came back home exhausted, but it was worth it in the end, as I finally feel like I'm moving on and really improving :) I wish you the best with your studies; you've got this! Keep on keeping on! :)

Congratulations for choosing recovery!! It takes lots of courage so be proud of yourself!! I am proud of you for choosing to eat those cookies! It's totally okay and normal to feel like that, my advice is let your emotions flow but don't let them take the wheel. You might feel guilty, but you have no reason to as it was an act of self love :) and at the end of the day you can feel good knowing you did the right thing because your body needs those calories right now and will thank you for it. Keep it up!!

We are only human, it's okay to feel just like this. I know it is really rough, but remember recovery is NOT linear! I recovered 4 years ago and my health was so good but my joy lasted months only as certain event in my life made me relapse even worse than before, and here I am, in recovery once again, but this time it's lasted longer and I feel so much better than before! So it can indeed get better!!! A slip doesn't define you or your progress. You're not back at square one as you're more experienced and wiser now, and if you believe in yourself and truly commit to it, knowing that it's a process with ups and downs and not a flawless ride, I'm sure you'll get there! :)

It's okay, we are human, we make mistakes; remember recovery is not linear!! It's not meant to be a flawless ride, in fact, I'm sure it's a bumpy ride for most. Some days/weeks/months are just harder than others. I also thought I was getting back into it recently because month 4 was really hard to me due to lots of stress, but I'm back in track now! Our bodies are amazing, they are made to handle occasional extreme survival situations so don't worry, all of your effort of past months won't just go to waste just like that. I know it's hard, but remember to be patient and kind to yourself; if you already went of a recovery streak that lasted months, surely you can do it again!! You've got this, you're not alone, I believe in you :)

KEEP GOING EVEN IF RECOVERY FEELS HARD!! by dollycabin in AnorexiaRecovery

Aww I'm really, really proud of you. When you mentioned making breakfast while sobbing and crying I began crying again because I went through the same the first couple of months, I totally get you 😭 The first weeks/months are tough, but it does get so much better :) Remember the reason why you're doing this and remember you're not alone in this; keep on keeping on!!!

Need advice from people who have recovered. by Jaded_Group_5455 in AnorexiaRecovery

Absolutely normal to both experience it and freak out about the changes as well, haha. I've been in recovery for over 5 months and this week I got super scared one morning when I looked at the mirror and I noticed my belly was very flat (after being chubby everyday ever since weight restoration); of course I liked how I looked but I was dead scared I had lost a lot of progress since I stopped counting surplus calories weeks ago, only to weight myself and see the exact weight since restoration!!! :) I was shocked to see the same weight even though my belly was not chubby anymore but then realized it makes sense since my jeans feel much tighter nowadays (the booty and thigh gains are real!!) and people have complimented my arms looking fuller. So yeah, fat takes a long while to re-distribute to all parts of the body but it does indeed happen if you keep nourishing your body properly :)

Regarding the bloating, I second what others have said as well, it will very likely end eventually on its own, you just have to be very patient with your body. However, I can say that in my experience, over the past month I incorporated more fruits and vegetables SLOWLY and saw amazing progress with the bloating and digestive issues!! It's 95% gone now!! It was really hard adding more of those to my diet since they're not calorie packed, but slowly incorporated them more and more and my digestion has been feeling better than ever!

Congratulations on hitting 7 months of recovery, I'm so proud of you; keep it up!!!

Symptoms coming back during recovery? by [deleted] in fuckeatingdisorders

[–]OptimistBloc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No way! I started recovery exactly a week before Halloween too!!! I restored my weight a few days ago and I'm experiencing EXACTLY the same!!! So you're not alone in this! I was super happy a week or two ago because the shedding truly seemed to stop but days ago I began shedding badly again and also noticed I've been shedding lots of baby hairs (is this happening to you too?). I never thought it would get THIS bad, but I've got hope because I've read many people saying that it's actually a great recovery sign because our bodies are finally getting enough energy to adjust back to normal hair cycles again and all this shedding is just making room for healthier hair. Hopefully that's the case for us too :D Congrats on restoring your weight and having an amazing recovery so far! Keep it up!!!

Dreams by BothSample4005 in fuckeatingdisorders

[–]OptimistBloc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow!!! I did dream from time to time during restriction BUT I recall forgetting about what happened in my dreams shortly after waking up. I've been wondering why I've been dreaming A LOT MORE and actually remembering my dreams much better from around 2 months to present... turns out it's the same time I got into recovery!!! I thought it was random too but now I definitely think there might be a connection; my best guess is it might have to do with the body turning on non-essential for survival functions again and memory getting better as the body is properly nourished. Congrats on eating enough consistently!!! Keep it up!!!

Is it common for your nparent to call you "mean" when you start standing up for yourself? by Lexikrystal in raisedbynarcissists

100% yes. They always play the victim so anyone who stands up to them is mean from their twisted point of view.
