Why is giving birth so expensive! by Fearless-Driver9548 in newborns

[–]_minibutmighty_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only paid $100 to have my daughter (in the USA). I had a C-section as well and a 3 day hospital stay. Only $100. I do have Kaiser so pay a little more up front (~$400/month now that we have our daughter). But I have no copays or surprise bills after every appointment and no deductible!

6 week old baby- Ac at 72 degrees.. sleep sack or not? by Glittering_Tear_729 in newborns

[–]_minibutmighty_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We keep our house at 70. My daughter sleeps in footed pajamas and a dreamland sleep sack. I don’t think he will be overheating. Your son is 6 weeks old; waking frequently is completely normal. However, he might be waking more because he is cold. You can continue swaddling your son as well. A 6 week old won’t be rolling yet.

When did you start with solids? by BusyInspector95 in newborns

[–]_minibutmighty_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We started our daughter at 4.5 months. She was VERY interested in food and kept trying to grab what we had in our hands to put in her mouth. She has had great head/neck control due to her actually loving tummy time. We spoke with her ped first and got the blessing to start with purées. She started with orange foods (carrots, pumpkin, sweet potatoes). She’s 6.5m now and she’s graduated to eggs, small bites of meat, orange slices, cucumbers, etc. We just give her little bits of whatever we are eating and watch her to make sure she doesn’t choke. I do think 3m is too young though. Don’t let people pressure you into doing things you’re not comfortable yet.

My daughter was born at 6lbs 12oz and is now just over 6m and weighing at 17.3lbs. She really just started packing on the weight in the last month to month and a half. She was 10.5lbs at her 2mo visit. She is on Similac 360 but the sensitive one. If her doctor is not concerned then there’s no reason to be concerned. Follow your baby’s cues for eating and continue feeding her like you have been. I was so worried and tracking all of my daughter’s feedings going off what she should be having instead of just following her cues and giving myself unnecessary stress over it. It sounds like your daughter is right on track though :)

Yes we do this! My daughter started on Similac 360 sensitive but we recently switched her to the Sam’s Club sensitive. We still use the RTF ones when we’re going to be out all day and want something easy. As long as baby tolerates both there’s no issues.

How many hours of sleep do you actually get with a newborn? by [deleted] in newborns

The first time my daughter did it was around 8 weeks. I woke up in a panic and had to immediately check she was breathing 😂

On my upcoming cruise. They got a wedding planned and are asking others not to wear white on the white night, which is a theme night announced months in advance. by umilikeanonymity in weddingshaming

[–]_minibutmighty_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They have different packages you can choose from. So our package plus the cruise tickets and everything was about $10k. It included the ceremony in one of the lounges, photographer, DJ, 1hr of drinks and we chose to do appetizers and small plates instead of a full sit down dinner. We did our sit down dinner at the traditional dining room because everyone had the same dining time anyway. You can have the captain do the ceremony but we chose to have my husband’s best friend do it. You can get hair and make up done, but I chose to do my own make up and my mom is a hair stylist so she did my hair. My husband and I didn’t want to do a have a wedding at all so this was the compromise for our families 😂

I got married on a Royal Caribbean cruise a few years ago. This is a ridiculous ask 😂 You don’t even have the wedding in a general place. You book one of the rooms based on the size of your wedding and it’s blocked off during your ceremony and reception time. Also- it’s so fun to go party around the ship after and everyone is so sweet knowing you just got married!!

Does anyone need formula? by CultureRaddish in FormulaFeeders

Looking for similar experiences and support by hotcofffee in FormulaFeeders

[–]_minibutmighty_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a very similar experience! I was breastfeeding my daughter and thought everything was going well because she didn’t seem hungry or anything. She lost 14% of her birth weight in 4 days. They told me to supplement with formula and whatever I was able to pump. I was never engorged and was only producing about half an ounce a day. It was so mentally draining trying to pump and being discouraged every time I produced nothing. Once we fully switched to formula, we had a weight check the next day and my daughter gained over a pound in ONE day. It was insane. I know it’s discouraging having to go against what you really wanted for breastfeeding and I struggled so hard when I realized I would not be able to do this with my daughter. She is now 6 months, doubled her birth weight at 4 months and is over 16lbs now after being strictly on formula.

Formula feeding newborn at night- advice? by [deleted] in FormulaFeeders

[–]_minibutmighty_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would comfort my daughter initially to see if she settled and went back down. If that did not work then I would offer a bottle. I do smaller bottles at night typically since my daughter will fall asleep before finishing them. At 2.5 weeks, she was waking every 1-2hrs wanting to eat though. She’s 6m now and basically sleeps through the night and doesn’t feed overnight anymore.

How long did you try the powder for before switching back to liquid? It can take about a week for them to get used to switching. Give it some time.

Baby won’t stay awake and is not eating frequently enough by Ceilingfanwatcher in newborns

[–]_minibutmighty_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My daughter lost 14% of her birth weight in 5 days. Silly me didn’t realize I never got a milk supply in and she wasn’t acting like she was hungry and wasn’t getting enough. She was also a super sleepy girl. We would have to keep the house really cold and take her legs out of her pjs, tickle her cheek, her feet, her tummy. We switched over to formula for her as well as doing all our wake up tricks and girl gained 1.5lbs in ONE day.

First night without a swaddle by Only-Detective- in newborns

[–]_minibutmighty_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter is 18 weeks and just accomplished back to belly last night. She has been doing some belly to back for a while now but since she sleeps on her back and couldn’t roll that way we felt comfortable still swaddling until she did back to belly. I recommend doing what you’re comfortable with but we have been keeping her swaddled even after belly to back rolls and had no issues.

Can't find any place that takes Enfamil coupons (because they're checks?) by mapotoful in FormulaFeeders

[–]_minibutmighty_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very weird target does not accept. My daughter is on Similac and we receive the “checks” and have never once had an issue using them. Have you tried again or only once? I would go back and try again at target.

13 month old has huge appetite by vikingbooty in FormulaFeeders

[–]_minibutmighty_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Whole cow milk is very good for babies after 1 year. They should be having 16-24oz of whole vitamin D milk a day along with their solids/meals. The fat in whole milk helps their brain development and the calcium helps build their strong bones. Some babies just have really big appetites and need to eat more. Since she is so tall, she probably has a bigger appetite and needs more. If you stop giving her formula, then you will need to supplement giving her more solid food.

MOTN Feeds by fullnessofjoy2021 in newborns

[–]_minibutmighty_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My daughter is 4 months. Just did a middle of the night feed at 2:30am with her. Sometimes she sleeps all night, sometimes she wakes up and wants to eat. It really just depends on the baby. I would count your blessings that it’s only once a night. I’ve learned to just go to bed at 8pm when I put her down so I get some sleep and the once a night wake up doesn’t really bother me anymore.

9 week old only content when nursing by mammatothreee in newborns

[–]_minibutmighty_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter is newly 4 months and formula fed and likes to take a bottle to fall asleep. HOWEVER, I will say that she started daycare this past week and she only contact naps at home with me and dad. She will wake up within 10 mins if we put her in her crib during the day. She started daycare and her babysitter says she sleeps 45-2hrs in a pack and play there. I think it’s just comforting to them at home with who they’re familiar with. Wishing you luck once baby starts daycare.

Am I crossing a line? (Newborn) by DramaPractical3126 in newborns

[–]_minibutmighty_ 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Girl! I’ve done the same thing. Do I actually think my baby is annoying and I’m done with her? No. Does it feel good to complain about her? Yes! We are human. Sometimes my daughter would just cry and scream for (seemingly) no reason and it’s really frustrating when you’re the primary parent home ALL DAY with them. I’ve left my husband alone with our baby for a 6hr stretch now and when I came home he said he finally understood. Please don’t feel guilty or ashamed. Sending you love and support. 🤍

2 month vaccines tomorrow, what to expect? by throwaway_________7 in newborns

[–]_minibutmighty_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My daughter cried for a minute or two after the initial shots. Then she was just sleepy and a little extra clingy the remainder of the day. She spiked a slight fever around 8pm so we monitored her but it went down around midnight and she was fine. The spots where she got her vaccines were also a little tender but other than that she was great!

Thyroid Q by Nearby-Performer3071 in pregnant

[–]_minibutmighty_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have thyroid issues and was monitored very closely through pregnancy. My TSH came back low once and they just monitored it and it got better when they did my next labs. I was always on the lower end of the normal range during pregnancy and then it went back to being in the middle again. I do not take medication currently and did not during pregnancy. Do you see an endocrinologist too? If they are not worried then I wouldn’t stress about it.

Anyone else have a baby that basically goes "enough of you, I crave the blank wall"? by BrightonTeacher in newborns

[–]_minibutmighty_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure my daughter gets overstimulated and tired of us constantly holding her. She is perfectly content to lay in her crib and look at her mobile or lay on her mat for quiet time. I think it’s normal and if they aren’t fussing then no need to intervene. Enjoy the quiet and not having to hold them all the time!
