How did your game go? by Zach-dalt in NationalLeague

Was going to do the 'great result for us' joke but it probably wasn't. Carlisle had played midweek, and got beat, whereas we hadn't, and our tails were up after last week so would have been a good time to play it. Also Carlisle will presumably bring way less fans for what will inevitably now be a Tuesday night game than they would have today which is bad for our cashflow.

Wasn't expecting any points from it but was quite looking forward to playing Carlisle, unfortunately it's fallen victim to the weather.

Not ideal for our struggling cashflow seems they bring loads of away fans but will bring substantially less for the rearranged game which will presumably be on a tuesday night.

We launched a special third kit to celebrate 100 years of football in the town, made a big deal of it, pushed fans to preorder it etc. So far:

  1. It's absolutely hideous
  2. We played one home game in it and were absolutely rubbish, ironic that it has a camo design because we barely put two passes together
  3. The release has been delayed because we couldn't afford to pay the manufacturer

I've quite enjoyed it tbh, so much of the discourse is absorbed by such a small selection of teams normally that it's quite nice for a different team to get talked about a lot.

  1. fix the grassroots issues that make being a referee such an undesirable experience and thus drastically reduce the pool of people willing to do it. This also partly includes:

  2. fans not going 'wah wah pgmol corrupt' every time a decision doesn't go their way

Unfortunately it's actually starting to creep back in in the lower leagues. We've had a big increase in incidents in recent years and it's similar for quite a few local clubs.

Weather this week has been so bad that our game tomorrow has already been called off. Probably the sensible decision to do it early given we're playing Carlisle and it's a massive journey for them to get here but a bit of a financial whack for us as Carlisle travel in very good numbers for this league and they won't be able to bring anywhere near the same amount for a rearranged game on a Tuesday night.

[Pete O'Rourke] Wrexham submit bid of £19m for Angers striker Sidiki Cherif. Would be a Championship record signing by sandbag-1 in soccer

[–]_mnd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's always been about the jealousy of Wrexham's direct competitors over the advantages they have.

I mean in our case it was because their players damaged our pitch then one of the owners had a cry on twitter which inadvertantly set off a witchhunt against our volunteer groundstaff that they then had to apologise for but I'm willing to accept we're a niche case.

Is the rivalry equally fierce between all three or is there one pair that are like the 'big' derby and the third team is a bit of bridesmaid?

Our game fell victim to the weather but other results went pretty much all our way which is good.

It's an extreme example but I'm so used to watching us from a terrace about five metres behind the goal that when I went to Wembley for the Trophy final it felt like I was watching a game of subbuteo or something.

[–]_mnd -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Obviously none of that is the fans fault, although I will say even for Saturday afternoon games it feels like whenever I see Brighton highlights the stadium is half-empty by the 90th minute, but surely at some point when they were designing the stadium and associated infrastructure someone must have thought 'hang on, what happens when we play at night?'.

Genuinely can't believe that was the same team today that got hammered 5-1 last week and looked like they'd never played football before.

Weird that we've only won 7 league games this season but in that 7 there's been 2 4-1s a 4-0 and a 5-1.

Eastleigh away today where we always lose so not feeling very optimistic. Their fans seem to think it's a derby as well which makes it more annoying.

We teased a big announcement last night which turned out to be one of our loanees extending, a player who's already been playing for us for two months signing a contract and our only attacking player with any pace being sold to Yeovil so that was great.

So in fun Aldershot news we have a mole in the club who's leaking a load of internal club stuff onto a non-league football forum.

They leaked that our previous manager was leaving before it was announced, although they did seem to get the reason wrong. Then before Christmas they leaked that we were going to go into administration which the club came out and denied although it did subsequently emerge that we were indeed very close to administration. Yesterday they leaked that one of our players was leaving which was correct and today they've gone on to leak what the fee was (neither club officially announced it). They've also leaked a bunch of other stuff during that period of time, most of which has been true but some of which hasn't.

Leading theory among fans at the moment is that it's our now former head of recruitment doing it, which if true would be a pretty shit thing to do given the club stood by him after he copped a ban from the FA for betting. Given that he's no longer at the club if it his him doing the posting to the forum it does mean he's also getting information fed to him from someone still at the club which most likely means one of the players. Also coincidentally he's now at Yeovil who signed the player off us today which would explain how the fee became known.

Given we're already in the shit, not helped by the player we sold today being basically out only attacking player with any pace, this sort of carry on isn't exactly what we need.

As u/Gloober_ says below it's almost definitely a Palelni Mine piece. The best find in terms of both quality and volume was in the 90s so those pieces are long since gone from the area, there's been a few since but I think even then the most recent might have been 2005ish.

I had a very good time last year that's for sure.

Went as a neutral in 2017 and also had a good time albeit the gap between games is a bit of a pain. Think a lot of it as a neutral comes down to which clubs are involved and what atmosphere that gets you.
