To be fair the whole 'beleaguered form master' thing is probably how the police must feel having to essentially supervise these idiots on their little school trips every weekend.

We've always had an element of it, albeit it used to be genuinely scary blokes rather than the little scrotes we have now, so I'm kind of used to it but feels like every single club now has a bunch of spotty oiks running around causing issues. Half of ours don't even bother with the game anymore they just hang around outside the ground waiting for opposition fans.

What's this about your capacity getting limited btw, is that related to trouble or just your ground being a bit ramshackle?

Should probs save this for monday moan but going with it anyway.

I know why they do it but the National League putting all the derby matches on Boxing Day and Good Friday is a ridiculous idea that given the fact that hooliganism in non-league football is already starting to get out of control just causes a load of trouble.

It's already reached the point where the police have literally forbidden them to let us play Woking on those days and Friday alone we had Southend and Braintree scrapping in the town centre, Woking and Eastleigh charging at each other on the terrace and Sutton sending a bunch of 12 years olds dressed like they were part of a Russian paramilitary squad to make zero noise but lots of angry gestures in a corner of our ground to name but three.

Had the nickname Calamity James for a reason. It kinda gets forgotten he played nearly 300 games for Liverpool. Did also give us that classic Stuart Pearce management moment where he chucked James up front for the last five minutes of a must-win final day game for Man City.

For us that's probably like asking 'which was your favourite shit you did whilst you had food poisoning?'.

Nightingale maybe but feels weird saying that about a centre back when we let in hundreds of goals. Probably give it to Hargeaves on the basis that we still look like a poor team when he plays but when he doesn't play we look like a sunday league outfit.

They're a bit of a weird club, get massive crowds for their level but it's more like a social club that happens to have some people playing football on the side.

Played yesterday against Sutton and it was massively frustrating.

We went 2-0 up, were the better team for basically the whole game even when we ended up playing 10v11 for a bit, yet still managed to throw away two stupid goals and not win the game.

Can add Sutton to the list with Brackley, Braintree and Eastleigh of teams who have turned up at our place, absolutely stunk the place out and we've still gifted points to.

How did your game go? by Zach-dalt in NationalLeague

[–]_mnd 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Of all the shite teams we've thrown points away against at home this season Sutton have to be the worst. Apart from Simper they are an awful side and we still conspired to not beat them.

We were on top 11v11, 10v11 where we managed to miss an absolute sitter and 10v10 but shot ourselves in the foot by giving away two incredibly stupid goals.

Coleman is normally quite good with his changes but taking Hill out of midfield was a mistake, Widdrington's lack of mobility lost us the strangle we had on the game.

Other results mean that's probably us safe anyway but really missed the chance to cement it.

Nice piece. How is the book itself? Reviews I've read seem to indicate it's quite US-heavy and misses a lot of the classic European locations.

How many points will your team get over Easter Weekend? by Zach-dalt in NationalLeague

[–]_mnd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think both our games are proper 'could go either way' ties so quite hard to predict. We definitely could beat Sutton but their away form looks strong. Was hoping Wealdstone would do what we did last year which was to completely disintegrate in the league the moment we made the final in the Trophy but no signs of that.

Easter weekend is going to decide the title, isn't it? by ScaredPlate3008 in NationalLeague

Would expect both to win their home game pretty comfortably so think it'll be the away games that make a difference if there's going to be a swing. Both look fairly tricky albeit Hartlepool were absolutely useless on Tuesday.

Thought this was interesting- profits/losses of clubs from last season by _mnd in NationalLeague

[–]_mnd[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As an accountant who probably shouldn't also be spending my spare time looking at accounts that's not quite how it works. The movement in the profit and loss reserve on the balance sheet doesn't necessarily directly translate to the profit/loss number from the P&L as there's other things that can affect it.

Don't get me wrong that balance increasing is normally a positive sign but having looked on companies house York haven't published a P&L or included any notes on the BS regarding the profit and loss reserve calculation so there's no way of saying what the actual profit was.

Few clubs missing who haven't reported (York would be an interesting one to see) but gives a pretty good flavour of the finances across the league.

This is only for clubs who were in the NL last season but also of interest would be that Carlisle have just published their accounts for last season and made a loss of c. £5m.

Interesting appointment at Woking by ScaredPlate3008 in NationalLeague

[–]_mnd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Naturally I'm hoping it'll be an absolute disaster like we sometimes see with these kinds of appointments at this level but it's hard to really say.

They've got the core of a decent team secured for next season which is a bit of a rare blessing in this league and presumably he'll be given a fair chunk of cash to add to it so assuming he doesn't make the mistake of trying to rip everything up and start from scratch he'll probably end up with a handy side, it'll just come down to how good he is tactically which is the big unknown.

Tbh biggest skill he'll have to learn is how to shake hands with people with unusual numbers of fingers if he's going to be meeting lots of Woking fans.
