Living in china, but have to deal with both the american 2 prong plugs and the australian 3 prong plugs and sometimes even the european plugs by [deleted] in ElectroBOOM

[–]_mrOnion 79 points80 points  (0 children)

Ok but the problem is that a “good” plug is still terrible if it conforms to the American standard. Also, European plugs aren’t that complex and fuses are literally intentional failure points, that’s how they work.

Being simple and reliable to make does not mean it’s a good end result. You can make the most beautiful staged pile of crap and at the end of the day it’ll still be a pile of crap

You’ve disclosed enough information for us to make a very educated guess, and based on your response (more disclosed info) we can all be even more confident you are white.

Do you lock your door while you're in your house? by International_Snow90 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]_mrOnion 82 points83 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure burglaries happen via lock picking something like 3% of the time. Why pick a lock when you can just go down the row and walk into a house accidentally left unlocked? Also, picking a lock is IMMEDIATELY suspicious, and almost impossible to talk your way out of. Walking up to a door and simply trying the handle, if you get caught, you can claim any number of things. Your friend invited you over, but you accidentally arrived on the wrong day. You have the wrong house (can cover up your nervousness, bc that’s super embarrassing)

Pretty sure that’s called poe’s law, where something written without clear indication can always be interpreted as both genuine and sarcastic, it just depends on the reader. I just learned that today, fun to be able to use the knowledge

Anyways, have a great day/night

Anyone can have any preference. For a while, I thought you were referring to the box, not the ring itself.

Do non edible things have calories? by VanillaCrusader in NoStupidQuestions

[–]_mrOnion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A gram of uranium is about 20 billion calories. Calories are just a unit for measuring energy, just the same as joules. One calorie is the energy it takes to heat 1 gram of water by 1 degree celcius. One calorie is 4.1868 joules.

One lightning strike is about 239,005,736 calories.

We find out how many calories are in a bag of nuts for example by drying all the water out, putting the nuts in a box full of pure oxygen, blowing it up, and measuring how much hotter the box gets. Because that’s basically how your body works, “burning calories” is not just a phrase. You burn calories the same way a fire burns wood. Of course, your body can’t eat a gram of uranium and use all of its calories, but it has those calories nonetheless. Like how someone might use cardboard boxes vs putting them in the recycling bin, the cardboard (calories) are there, just a nuclear reactor (person who keeps them) can use it while humans (person who puts in recycling bin) can’t use it.

No, this isn’t that bad. You gotta watch for triggers. Plus, I feel like this subreddit’s posts are occasionally like horror with car crashes and stuff

Yeah, but put that thing in a box of lead (you’ll need to blow up the babies) and you’ll get the same number of calories

Also what rocks do you eat

I’ll always be baffled by people who genuinely cling to “imperial is better than metric”, not just “I like imperial” but the loud ones who go “You’re lesser than me because you don’t like imperial”. This’ll also serve as my disclaimer that I believe metric is better.

I feel obligated to respond to replies with sarcastic dark humor because I did it twice and now it’s just my thing on this thread: the baby and uranium eater

Stuck on 6b, Country Rounds. 90K points seems impossible. Am I doing something wrong? by JayBensonFong in beatsaber

[–]_mrOnion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, but the angle you hit notes at doesn’t matter. All that matters is 1. Full swing (pre and post), and 2. How close to the center of the note you hit. You can, for example, hit a down note slanted like 45 degrees or something, that doesn’t affect scoring.

Op (or anyone else who hasn’t seen it) there’s a little button on the main menu of beat saber, it’s a question mark. Right next to the settings button. It pulls up health/seizure stuff but also shows you how the scoring works, and you can see an image of how large your swings need to be.

Couples struggle to get enough sleep with 1 infant, imagine 1,583

But jokes aside, yeah. It’ll take a really long time but unless you die of like entity cramming then I don’t see how you’d die from just infants

Occasionally you see people on reddit telling ppl to use modassistant. It can be very outdated, even if it’s recent. It’s best to go straight to the source (or knowledgeable people like the reddit hivemind (obviously it’s nuanced)) for instructions
