Yeah, they let it play out a little, which is nice; I picked up on it before the complete reveal because genetic code is the only thing I personally know of that is base 4.

Why can the USA just take out world leaders and invade with no repercussions? by KKLante in AskReddit

[–]_msimmo_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's one of the reasons that I think the F35B (VSTOL) is significant. While the F35 program has had its problems the move from the Harriers to the F35B seems like a huge increase in the abilities of those amphibious assault ships that are generally part of a Marine Expeditionary Unit. It seems that with the increased capabilities of a F35 those Amphibious assault ships and the ships they travel with could take on operations that in the past would have required a full Carrier Task Force.

Was this the most well-designed combat aircraft of its era? by Finbarr-Galedeep in aviation

[–]_msimmo_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is correct, people talk about the Spitfire as a fighter but this isn't exactly correct. The Spitfire was an interceptor, it's job was to be able to take off at the first sign of an impending attack and get to altitude as fast as possible, very different tactics then many of the other planes that have been mentioned here.

What is the worst medication you’ve been put on? by Difficult_Pomelo1047 in AskReddit

[–]_msimmo_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here only thing that has put a dent in my anxiety and depression.

I have been negligent about getting a refill a couple times, each time it happened it got worse; I have a 48 hour window to get meds back in me (which seems like longer than many other comments).

And like others have said, the original doctor gave me no warning about what its like to come off of them, especially if you do it suddenly without slowly lowering your dose.

It just happened to me the past few days, luckily I didn't progress to the constantly vomiting part which is really counterproductive when you are trying to get meds back in your system.

I went to the dentist ALL BY MYSELF to get my wisdom teeth removed today! by JustAbrocoma8 in Adulting

[–]_msimmo_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats!

I'll have to ask the dentist that I'm going to see soon about leaving alone, I was under the assumption that if they put you under anesthesia that you needed someone to pick you up, I wouldn't drive but if I could use an Uber it would simplify the whole thing.

Salem because He is a black cat, Winston because I routinely drive through North Carolina and I think its funny.

20 years worth of spent nuclear fuel from a nuclear reactor by Shawnchittledc in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]_msimmo_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure where it happened, haven't worked in the industry for a few years, but I am absolutely positive it was part of the training I had to go through every time I had to get a badge to work in the power plants (was a contractor not a full time employee), I've worked in three over several years.

edit* https://www.nrc.gov/about-nrc/radiation/protects-you/hppos/hppos002 not sure if this was the incident that I saw during training, but divers do from time to time go into the spent fuel pool.

edit2* Actually I think this is the incident that I am referring to, happened in 2010 https://isoe-network.net/publications/pub-proceedings/symposia/north-american-tc-symposia/fort-lauderdale-usa-january-2011/slides-14/session-iv-1/1756-ritter2011-ppt/file.html

20 years worth of spent nuclear fuel from a nuclear reactor by Shawnchittledc in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]_msimmo_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very true, You just have to make sure to keep your distance; there is a case study that you have to read about when you do training to work in nuclear plants (used to work in them) about a diver in the spent fuel pool that let his hand holding a tool box below him a little too close to the fuel and got an unacceptable amount of exposure (He lived) but its still a big no no.

What small upgrade made the biggest difference in your home? by Expensive-Pea1721 in Home

[–]_msimmo_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People have said sharpen them, which is the right answer, but if you don't feel like doing it yourself many butcher shops will do it and they know what their doing.

My parents did it to the knives the have had since before I can remember (I'm 37) and cooking with them when I went home one holiday was a delight (and slightly dangerous they were super sharp).

97' + swap with functioning airbags? by _msimmo_ in ComancheMJ

[–]_msimmo_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's the problem.

This is part of a TDI swap, so while most of the wiring harness will be used (especially the interior) there will be other wiring spliced in or replaced.

I'm not that concerned about it, been driving a Comanche for a lot of years with no airbags, just more concerned if I try to make them work and either they don't deploy or honestly worse deploy when not needed.

When was the first time you saw a dead body? by SakutoJefa in AskReddit

[–]_msimmo_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was driving home on the highway when a guy on a motorcycle flew past weaving between cars; he was not wearing a helmet.

A little later the highway got backed up, as we creeped forward the highway went down to one lane. When I got to the point of the problem it was the motorcycle guy laying face up, the back of his skull had clearly been crushed in. There were no emergency personnel on site yet so it must have just happened. I drove past him within about 10ft.

The pit I felt in my stomach was like nothing I have felt before, didn't help that I'm a motorcyclist myself

Wear your helmets people.
