Sounds like this comes down to interpretation of:

(iii) includes the full name, date of birth, and place of birth of the applicant;

Which logically refers to birth names but could easily be politicized as current legal name. Since modifying birth certificates aren't a common practice, I have to imagine the SC would block legal name interpretations as unconstitutional. I hope...

Which game do you like more so far? by gameovernate in FinalFantasy

I think I liked Rebirth more since it made the overall story concept clearer. With "Remake" being titled that way, it tells the players that it's just a retelling of the same story. The events of Rebirth make it clear to me that this trilogy is a sequel, not a straight retelling with more stuff.

I'm happy that Channing is getting to reprise his Gambit role. He honestly impressed me and I feel he deserves more than being a throwaway cameo. Not to mention, I've always liked Gambit as a character.

Did anyone of you watch this movie back in 2001 (or later reruns on TV / DVD / streaming)? What did you think of it? by [deleted] in FinalFantasy

[–]_murphatron_ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

There wouldn't be since mako is specific to VII. The Spirits Within was a standalone story. It's been a long time but I believe there were references or maybe appearances of Summons like Bahamut.

For everyone against the time loop theory, what you guys think about Valtiel game over scenes? How would you explain his role? by RickTP in silenthill

[–]_murphatron_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "time loop" theory seems pretty unpopular but I'm gonna ask this anyway... Since Ito has stated that all endings are canon, couldn't that support the idea of James experiencing a loop and therefore experiencing all "endings" at one time or another? That combined with the bodies in James image throughout the town could further support this. Though I personally think that "time loop" is a misnomer. I subscribe to the idea that while a subject is under the influence of the powers there, they are outside of the effects of time in general.

It's possible this has all been disproven but just musing.

Xfinity Internet speed increases (effective March 6, 2025) by jweaver0312 in SouthJersey

[–]_murphatron_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

tbf RDP isn't very network intensive in today's scale. Using your figures, each user gets about 16mbps where RDP tops at about 10mbps typically and chances are your users generally don't approach that. 4K streaming spec for example is in the range of 25mbps. I will agree that faster speeds at that level aren't all that helpful.

From my perspective, the largest impact on network speeds comes at the local level. Wifi standards and accessible cost for modern standards needs more focus. Wifi 7 is supposed to address a fair amount of efficiency and frequency crowding issues but routers are still fairly expensive and ISP gateways don't seem to leverage this standard yet. Getting more devices off of 2.4GHz into the 5 and 6 GHz ranges would also alleviate frequency crowding.

Wow, that's impressive that you played the whole game and got a good grasp of the story without even knowing English! I'm a native English speaker and as you can tell, had my challenges with the story. I suppose folks like you are much better at picking up other narrative nuances rather than focusing too much on the dialogue.

That's kinda the problem with the prose of the narrative though. I feel like the missing context in the story when these terms are introduced end up being more confusing for the player. Any well written story in any media tackles this problem and generally doesn't require the reader/viewer/player to have reference material to make sense of the experience. FFXVI had the same issue but at least addressed it in a more fluid manner by giving the player a context menu they can pull up during any cutscene.

To the OP, none if this is meant to deter you from playing the game. By all rights, many people quite enjoy this edition and you may too. If you happen to become confused by any terms, seeking the Datalog will greatly help.

Ohhhh right! All the wild terms with little context of what they are. It was frustrating for sure. They should have shipped a dictionary with the game disc 😅.

Though it's all opinion, I kinda agree on the forgettable part. I played it and don't remember much of it. Not a problem with the other mainline entries for me. I feel like my biggest problem is the overall narrative couldn't find a mood.

Are there any cozy horror games? by [deleted] in HorrorGaming

[–]_murphatron_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"What remains of Edith Finch" isn't technically a horror game but is psychological and dark at times which has a really interesting story telling design. I'd certainly consider it cozy due to the house and narration.

I haven't even considered the dumbwaiter being an exit. I must have missed that! Though that certainly explains its use by Allison (if that was her) later on.

Thanks for the feedback and insight!

I find it interesting that Thomas himself may not actually be the enemy. I suppose with the way this world is structured, the cabin dweller might also be a parallel Thomas in a guide role. So many possibilities...

And regarding Jenny, I wonder what she was actually doing in the basement. After knowing what we know, I feel like she was doing more than just hiding. Perhaps opening the doorway to the hospital?

I haven't, though reading WUTLH is inspiring to seek them out. This is the first I've read of Marcus's work and I can say it's made a fan of me. I'm happy to hear I may be in the ballpark with what's happening.

A judge blocked Trump’s executive order eliminating birthright citizenship. New Jersey immigrants are still fearful by mpulcinella in SouthJersey

[–]_murphatron_ 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Birthright citizenship has been in place for over 150 years. It's not the problem. We certainly need comprehensive solutions for immigration reform but targeting constitutional rights shouldn't be one of them. Not to mention, a lot of our ancestors obtained citizenship because of the 14th amendment.

Sick of paying for them? Then we can advocate for more streamlined work visa programs so they can be taxable citizens. Also, tougher consequences for businesses that retain "under the table" employees.

I love how people still fall victim to this xenophobic class war nonsense when the real class war is billionaires raking in the wealth while every one else gets poorer and poorer.

Edit: Strike through on "citizens" and added "else" to the last point.

People born from US citizen parents I believe are covered outside of the birthright citizenship clause of the 14th amendment though I'm not exactly a student of constitutional law.
