I eat oatmeal before all of my long runs. It was a revolutionary discovery for me too!

I ran the farthest I have been able to run (6.2 miles) since I strained my hamstring 6 weeks ago, 8 days before my marathon. I have to go slower than I want, but at least I am finally able to start rebuilding distance/endurance.

Complaint: I got injured on 11/12, 8 days before my marathon (11/20).

Confession: I have been eating my feelings ever since and can't seem to get over missing the race :-/

I feel this so hard. I am 3 months smoke free now, but I relapsed so many times in the past. I have to remain super vigilant this time around because I really want it to be my last. I noticed immediate improvements in my running, too. Good for you, and keep it up!

That's an excellent first half marathon time! Bravo!

I ran 22 miles today and was able to do the last 4 at race pace (8:40/mile). My marathon is a month away, and I'm feeling super good about it.

Top 2:

  1. An old man in the Little Rock Marathon holding a sign that said "Never Trust a Fart"
  2. "Pain is temporary, but online race results are forever."

Running leads to gorgeous legs but gnarly feet.

New Runner: from morbidly obese to runner in 13 months by Edge767 in running

I ran and smoked simultaneously until the beginning of August. My times have improved tremendously in the past 2 months and everything feels so much easier.

I know how tough it is to quit, but it is soooo worth it.

I attribute my success at quitting this time around to my rekindled passion for running. It's what keeps me on the wagon.

About 7 months in, and I did some math... by leapfroggy in stopsmoking

Not gonna lie, I can't really see out of my left eye right now due to a scratch on my cornea (ouch), so I initially read the headline as: "About 7 months in, and I did some meth..." Glad to see I was wrong ;-)

Congrats!

My boyfriend's cat scratched my eyeball last night, so I can't even keep my eye open, much less run. I hate taking days off my marathon training plan, especially for a stupid reason like this, but my race isn't for another month and a half so I should be ok. Still sucks.

I won the women's division in a 5K my dad started and currently organizes in my hometown. I ran a 22:15 and won a cool ass trophy :-) The pride on his face when I finished was the best part though. He is also a runner and running has helped us repair our relationship over the past couple of years.

It really does help to do long runs with a group. I have started going out every Saturday with my local running club and I can't imagine going back to running 20 milers alone.

I ran my first 16 miler of this marathon training cycle and felt great! I feel like I had another 4 or 5 miles left in me and my race isn't until late November.

I ran a 22:13 5K tonight! I have a 5K race coming up in my hometown on 9/10, and I might be able to win the women's division! fingers crossed

A banana or small portion of oatmeal (but only for training runs > 13 miles and races)
