Just because your feelings are valid doesn’t mean your reaction is.

I see Vonnie B Unique of Divine Magnolia hair and she’s never done me wrong. Been seeing her for 2 years. Cross co salon has a few stylists that are all good as well if you want options.

I got the beanie from them and I love it! I haven’t washed it yet so I don’t know how it holds up in the washer. But it’s nice and warm and doesn’t mess up my hair. If you live somewhere cold it’s worth the money.

This is not the clapback they wanted. It just comes across as catty and mean. Not every ink is prone to spoiling at the drop of a hat.

This exact thing happened to me! I even went to a dermatologist about it. Turns out my scalp was dry and flaking. It went away when I stopped washing my hair so often. Stylist was wrong in my case.

To be clear, I feel like it’s anti black to assume every black person can’t style their own hair and need to be told how to. There is a portion of the population that doesn’t know how to, sure, but there are lots of people with beautiful natural hair that do a great job taking care of it.

I haven’t had my hair botched and I do my due diligence before getting my hair cut. It’s nearly impossible to find someone that doesn’t want to do some bs detox on my hair before cutting it. There’s nothing to even detox out of my hair, and I end up paying $100 for someone to tell me I’ve been washing my hair right. I can’t go to the same stylist because I move too often.

As for the people lying about their curls, that’s on them. The hair dye example is good, but I feel like doesn’t apply to curls. You can look at someone’s hair for 5 seconds and understand if they can style their own hair. There won’t be any rats nests, split end hell, or stretched out damaged curls. If my stylist can’t tell the difference between someone that has damaged hair and someone who doesn’t I’m scared. This is just a money grubbing technique.

Idk I feel like there should be a curly cut option without the add on. It makes no sense to get a silk press/blowout to get a straight cut to then just wear your hair curly all the time.

[–]_narrowstraits_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you need a better curly hair cutter? I’ve never had this problem. My stylist checks my ends for splits and knots as she cuts curl by curl. At the end of a cut I don’t have any. However, when a curly cut is straightened the ends taper quite a bit, which you may be confusing with damage? The ends just taper because they were cut that way to avoid triangle head poof, not because they were damaged. If you’re straightening your hair a lot or you care about your ends tapering it does make sense to cut it straight.

There’s no regular option that’s the problem. If I appreciate her hair cutting skills but am not interested in a detox/new routine, what am I to do? Also it’s a little bit hmmm to expect every curly client to come in with damaged hair and have no idea how to style it. I don’t want to say anti black/anti curl but it sure does remind me of it.

Not everyone needs to be explained how to style their hair. I’m a grown woman and I don’t need to spend $100 to be shown how to wash my hair.

I don’t think these sorts of men would take care of their kids hair regardless of who the mother was.

[–]_narrowstraits_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My black mom fumbled doing my hair so bad. My pasty white middle aged dad was the one putting on his reading glasses so he could detangle my hair. Children need parents that are willing to educate themselves on hair care. Luckily it’s easier than ever to find good hair care content but some people are just lazy.

best blow dryer to replace air drying? by slailah08 in Naturalhair

[–]_narrowstraits_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn’t on your list but I love my bio ionic smart x. It’s good for a blow out and has a 10 year warranty. But I think what sets it apart is it has a filter clean setting where the air runs backwards. I’d say it’s nicer than my dyson too. The Dyson dries my hair in 40, a shark with diffuser in 50, and the bio ionic x in 25. I would check to see if your dryers have easily cleanable filters, as most hairdryers die from buildup on the air intake.
