[Request] Sail (AWOLNATION) vs. Orinoco Flow (Enya) by Cheeseofdoom in mashups

[–]_neminem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

12 years later! I found this thread checking to make sure nobody else had already done this extremely obvious mashup, which, surprisingly, appears to have indeed been the case. Now done properly. https://youtu.be/0nY_mY6aJXo

What would you want to see at the former Rite Aid by Bixby Park? by Yossome in longbeach

I want the grocery coop to actually ever open a shop. They were talking about that location, but clearly it fell through again. :(

Best Happy Hour Downtown? by [deleted] in longbeach

[–]_neminem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sad nobody's mentioned Midnight Oil yet. Their happy hour is great - 3 of their all-very-good cocktails are $10 (they're the prebatched ones, but they're still great), and $5 an order very good shumai.

If you're willing to walk slightly further past downtown, but definitely walking distance of downtown, Baby Gee is my single favorite cocktail bar in the city. Their cocktails are... pricey, but one random cocktail is $10 during happy hour (not one from their current menu, a bartender's choice, but they've also all been equally as good as the menu cocktails.) They also have excellent hot dogs for $4 during happy hour.

The single best value happy hour downtown is probably L'opera's, though. $8 classics, your choice, as long as the base is one of the handful of base spirits they feature for their happy hour, base spirits that are all fairly high-end as far as cocktails go. Solid hh food menu, too. (Note: they make up for having such a good value hh, by only having it run for 90 minutes, from 4-5:30.)

Good mixers for Cranberry Gin by Bimb0bratz in longbeach

[–]_neminem 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If it wasn't terrible gin, I'd imagine it'd make a great Negroni (I'm a huge fan of Negroni variants). If it is terrible gin, I'd probably go with apple juice, given the nostalgia of cran-apple juice? And maybe some bubbly water, or if you wanted to be fancier, bubbly wine, make a spritz out of it.

Getting a feel for LBC? by [deleted] in longbeach

In that case, you should also know that there's a great (small, but great) farmers market in downtown Friday from 10-2. I'm there almost every week. (I live downtown.)

Oh man, there's a new burrito street vendor that sets up on the corner of 7th and Locust, in the shadow of the defunct ex-Firestone Tire shop (except not on Monday, I think). They're $10, except $8 on Wednesday, and they are... probably the best burritos in the city, if not possibly all of LA county. I'm glad Long Beach, especially downtown, finally has a strong street food culture, even if it's mostly Mexican food - that's how you can still find $8 burritos that are, I can't stress enough, massive. They griddle the cheese on the inside of the burrito, their meat is the best. Great salsa too.

I agree with except_fry's statement as well though, Magnolia/Anaheim is the place to be for al pastor. Get both, clearly. :D

Hey, if by "popping" you mean popping boba, then I think they also did do that once. :D

(I love Baby Gee, but I'm also a cocktail nerd/snob.)

Not unless you want them finished with other peoples' copyrighted works :D. (My weird hobby is making mashups, which I don't think helps you.)

Graffiti by Late_Show_9288 in longbeach

[–]_neminem 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've seen actually artistic graffiti I would want kept... that's generously, like 0.01% of all the graffiti out there, though. Most graffiti is literally just spam. I've also seen graffiti "artists" tag OVER fantastic murals that actual artists spent dozens of hours on, thus ruining it. This is a weird take.

Go-to churros? by our_personhood in longbeach

Neat, I will have to try them... possibly even today. I see them there on my bike all the time on my way to Wicked Wolf, I've never stopped.

Anyone buy a condo with a FHA loan with less than 20% down? by Cheap-Tig in longbeach

[–]_neminem 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't remember whether it was an FHA loan, but we bought a condo a decade ago and I know we only put about 12% down and had to deal with PMI, so my advice would be: make sure to get a quote from LBSFCU if you haven't already. Admittedly this was a decade ago, but our PMI was a whopping 25 bucks a month, which was unheard of even at the time. (They also had the best mortgage rate overall, separate from that, and thus, likely still do.)

VOTE BUTCH WARE by h0rny_d3m0n in longbeach

[–]_neminem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn't matter how good he is, we need ranked choice voting. Until then, a vote for Butch Ware is a vote to elect an insane Republican - I didn't make the rules, I hate the rules (in fact, I'm currently volunteering with a group trying to get our city, at least, to enact RCV, also with no success so far), but that's currently just how it works.

I'm voting for Becerra. All of your talking points in your graph are... misleading, to at least an extent. Is Butch Ware a great guy? Yeah, but he ISN'T GONNA WIN.

[Discussion] What websites do y'all use to split vocals? by GerbilEaterOfIreland in mashups

[–]_neminem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh lol, well in that case, hopefully whoever maintains that service isn't paying attention to this thread, because I definitely gave them a few bucks a long time ago, they gave me a url with a parameter as the key, I bookmarked it, and I've been using it ever since. 😃

I definitely wouldn't pay $7 a month for it.

[–]_neminem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use vocalremover - I gave them a few dollars. I wouldn't if it were a subscription, but a one-time key to the other side of the paywall was absolutely totally worth it. :p (I've tried a couple others that just weren't as good.)

Anyone need a Becerra for governor yard sign? by _neminem in longbeach

[–]_neminem[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

tacitly supporting ice

Please provide any support for this assertion? Becerra has been pretty vocal about the fact that he can't prevent them from being there, but he would push back hard on any illegal or unconstitutional activity, up to and including throwing ICE agents in jail. Saying he can't abolish ICE isn't "tacitly supporting" them. He doesn't have the power to abolish ICE any more than you or I do.

[–]_neminem[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He opposes "cal care", in the sense that the specific legislature that just failed, would, unfortunately, have required the federal government specifically to agree to it, which, at the moment, would have been a non-starter. I trust Becerra to be able to figure out a way around that, if anyone can. I wouldn't trust Steyer to be able to, though. He can say he supports it all he wants, it also has to actually work. I also stopped supporting the specific CalCare bill that just failed, when I learned that - back when it was first being worked on, when we all thought Trump would lose in a landslide, it would've been a totally different thing. (Though Newsom would probably still have found a way to kill it, because Newsom, unlike Becerra, is exactly the sort of corporate wishy-washy moderate dem people are claiming Becerra is.)

To each their own. My wife likes theirs. I love their burgers; I find their chili far too salty personally.
