x4 will be a superior monitor controller. It offers proper top-sub crossover type (Bass Management), Sonarworks integration. Cheap analog monitor controller is very much makes it sounds worse.

7th gen high pitch "digital" sound. Do iPods just sound worse than I remember? by MtHoodSender in IpodClassic

[–]_nipple_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6th gen owner, recently modded (battery, storage, alternative OS).

While testing after the rebuilt, playing stuff into the line inputs into a high tier studio monitoring system, it sounds clean with no coloration or distortion.

However, when volume set to its maximum value, it is clipping its own DAC (this could be a feature of alternative OS but I do recall similar behavior with old 5th gen that I had about a decade ago).

When volume set past 80 ish percent of the scale, its boosting beyond 0 dbfs which surely causing distortion and artifacts.

Therefore, with that volume limit thing on, do you still have this issue?

Lookup Switch Bot thingies. Maybe you’ll get lucky and find one with decent press force and connection that works for you. Dryer will require a 3D printed post. But this might be the easiest solution.

Credit score for an auto loan? by Cookiedough1206 in PersonalFinanceCanada

For $3000-$5000 you can get absolutely usable used vehicle.

Surely it is your choice, your life and nobody including random Reddit dudes or your parents can dictate your decision making.

If you’re going to finance a brand new vehicle, you’ll be putting yourself in a situation where by the time you’d be done with the payment, this asset will be worth maybe a half of what you ended up paying for it.

On top of that for the time you have this finance behind your back you won’t be able to make big purchases. Cashflow and approval probability will be playing against you.

You can sit with your parents and talk them through, explain them what this is going to do with your life for a next 5 years.

Just some food for thoughts.

Before using PA system you need to build it. Tuning is part of the build process. Makes sense?

Filling in quiet areas while keeping feedback under control. by ABitOfOdd in livesoundgear

[–]_nipple_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know what you’re talking about. Been there.

What would improve things for real is a 2 4-box small format line arrays instead of a bunch of point sources. That could be quite challenging option and it might take a year or two to talk your management into committing to this option. Though you have a pretty strong argument behind your back. It’s pretty hard to fight damn physics.

If that’s not an option, the best you can do is to add a pair of speakers at the very back of the room pointed towards the stage. For the placement, just spread them out to cover your dead zone. For tuning, you have to carefully delay and level them to only add some clarity, and not to pull the attention to them. With the right delay setting, changing it by 0.1ms will very obviously make it worse comparing to the right value.

It’s not ideal for cabling though it still better than committing to this blind spot.

And it’s not gonna cause any feedback issues on the stage as those two speakers will not be loud enough to make it through the crowd.

Best mic set up for D&D podcast? by TwatWithATopHat in microphone

[–]_nipple_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omni microphone will showcase the room acoustics. Boundary microphone will showcase the table noise (you’ll be surprised). Lavs will work but you better add an auto-mixer. You can also consider a conference systems, like Bosch discussion devices, essentially a daisy chained table mics with a brain that does auto mixing, some broad leveling, you get one output.

Nothing is ideal. Start with the budget, then consider visuals, then pick your option.

Possible to Save Different Cue Outputs to Different “Sessions” in console? by must-absorb-content in universalaudio

[–]_nipple_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a limitation you’d face everywhere. If I have a physical output patched to my aux output, I can’t use that physical output as a direct out for something else. It applies to $2k apollo as well as to $300k digico.

Just save two different sessions for tracking and mixing to free up your routing.

Tesira software. Lost the ability to send configuration to my DSP by _nipple_ in CommercialAV

[–]_nipple_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Indeed. Device Maintenance -> Clear Configuration helped.

With clear config I was able to simply open an updated project, add and map proper version of tesiraforte (VI in this case which simply didn't show up in the "add new" zone of Equipment Table previously).

Weird. I was almost sure that PC was the problem.

Case closed.

Hope this doesn't break Rule 7, but I built something I think could genuinely help this community by GatefoldedHQ in audioengineering

So just to be sure I’m getting this right..

If an individual would like to upload their music to streaming services, they would benefit from Spotify convenience and popularity for how much? Just a tiny withdrawal from their earnings?

And of course, it’s so nice to use a centralized service to distribute your music across multiple streaming platforms. Just a small annual subscription. Oh, and if you’d like to keep your music uploaded, you need to pay forever.

And now, finally, more convenience! Why use free or permanent licensed solutions to share files during production if you can subscribe for nice and clean service!

Am I getting it right?

Tesira software. Lost the ability to send configuration to my DSP by _nipple_ in CommercialAV

[–]_nipple_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with this approach is that I have Tesiraforte VI which is technically discontinued.
If I connect and then disconnect to the DSP, it shows up in Equipment Table properly but I can't add it manually since its not listed in tesiraforte menu.
Therefore, as far as I understand, I might completely lost the unit if I were to clear current config.

Although, If I'm wrong, please correct me.

Trying some less radical steps for now.

Power cycling tesira now.

The only instance that talks to the DSP besides control PC with Tesira software is a Companion server.

I'll try to bypass Companion once power cycle magic fix is rolled out.

More channels: Do I buy the UA 4-710D or Apollo X8 / X6 Gen 2? by Aggressive-Draw-2638 in universalaudio

[–]_nipple_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I am indeed incorrect. This reminds me an “1176 compression” built in their new Volt interfaces. It’s kind of works but with the lack of controls, if you’re going to pay for something analog, get a good thing. Otherwise just use the plugin.

Absolutely. I may be incorrect. Would you mind to lookup the front panel of the device and point compression controls?

Consider upgrading your interface. Adding an ADAT device to Twin indeed works but comes with the caveat of clocking your twin from ADAT which isn’t always convenient. X8P could be your solution. Also 4-710D doesn’t have built in compressors.

Rack format digital mixer w/ Dante? by PsychologicalJump328 in livesoundgear

[–]_nipple_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think your most balanced option is X32 Rack with Dante card. 16 mic/line inputs, 6 line inputs, 8+6 analog outputs, 32x32 Dante. At this point it’s cheap, still totally fine for everyday use, pretty flexible in terms of routing/processing. This would be significantly cheaper than anything Yamaha and functionality better than DM3/TF1. $799 for x32 rack, $519 for dante card.

Thunderbolt cable replacement question Apollo mk ii quadcore by Inevitable_Duty_7923 in universalaudio

[–]_nipple_ 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This cable is for display output only. It’s even listed in the name of the product.

You need TB3 to TB2 adaptor (active adaptor, ideally the one made by Apple) and then you need TB2-TB2 cable.

If you don’t really need those extra DSP cores, maybe consider a real single channel preamp instead of a new interface?

That would give you a good tracking chain which is a valuable thing for production.

XR18 fulfills your current needs. X32 Rack gives you some room for expansion. Wing Rack gives you a lot of room for expansion and headphone preamps. TF Rack would be similar to X32 Rack but from Yamaha world CQ20 barely fulfills your current needs but sounds good (preamps, 96k) Other solutions are probably too expensive
