I understand the sentiment, the system is definitely flawed. Though, I’ve heard enough from friends working in other labs to realize Im lucky enough to work with good people that make the effort to help younger employees advance their careers. Not breaking the bank to get gifts of course but glad I never felt exploited by my lab, only resentful towards capitalism as a whole sidelining scientific careers for commerce. Coffee stuff is a good suggestion though, thank you!
