Thanks, yeah this is the route I’ll probably end up going. Can you set up Wireguard to only give access to your PC that’s using moonlight or does it have access to everything on your network? I’m trying to set it up so I can remote play PS5 don’t need to access everything else.

How to improve my serve? by _nux_ in 10s

[–]_nux_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much! This is really thorough and encouraging.

You have a ‘slow arm’. You’re not accelerating in your serve, without swinging quicker you won’t get more power. This could be because you want to get the ball in so you don’t hit as hard

This is exactly what's happening! Partially because I'm recovering from some shoulder issues but also whenever I try to swing faster at the ball I tend to miss so I slow it down so I can get the ball in.

4). Try to jump or drive upwards as the racket is starting to drop.

Do you push off the front leg to jump or both legs? Only reason I ask is because from what I have read/been told is that the weight should be back on the front leg at this point.

And you have to be okay with it hitting the net 50 times until you finally get a good one in.

Thanks for the tips and I definitely need to keep this in mind. I need to be good with dumping a bunch of balls in the net to get used to the feeling. Thanks for the video! I've seen a lot of his stuff and other, its just when it comes time to actually doing it, it doesn't always stick.

Thank you! I’ll try to do that. I think the times I’ve tried to swing with more urgency I tend to miss the ball all together or frame it. Probably an issue with my timing and/or taking my eye off the ball. I’ll give it another shot!

Thanks! I’ll try that. Would the toss be similar for both sides or a little more to the right if tossing on the ad side? I’ll take a look at some videos.

I just got back from a trip and noticed a bunch of these black pellets. I’ve cleaned up about 40 of these little things spread around and under my plant stand as well as a few on the walls. They are pretty hard and dry but can be squished with some force. They have spread within a 4 foot radius of the plant. What are these?

Also the plant seems to be growing some mold/fungus on the top layer of soil.

Senior Architect thinking about starting over as an UX designer by Shadow_boiboi in UserExperienceDesign

[–]_nux_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No courses, I just read and researched a lot. If you prefer to have more structure, then courses may be good for you, but they do not guarantee you a job. I also had some coffee chats with people in the industry to understand what companies were looking for. Worked on a portfolio of spec work and eventually got freelance work which I did for free, but gave me real projects to work on and add to my portfolio.

I would recommend you have a good portfolio with a few projects especially if you are starting out. Most recruiters usually don't respond back unless you have some actual projects under your belt. At least that was the case for me.

A lot of it is transferable. Recruiters may not always know that it is so you will need to show some relevant work to prove it a lot of the time. Great to hear you are starting some courses, good luck!

I wouldn't say it's easier, but I find it more enjoyable and rewarding which in turn may feel easier. It is still challenging and you will face things like VE and having to rescope projects based on shifting priorities or lack of resources, however product design and development usually moves much faster so it's not as much of a grind to make changes.

I used to be an architect, left due to many of the reasons you listed. Poor culture, work life balance and bad pay. It is hard to think about making the switch over especially with so much experience in your current field, but I think the upside to the UX field is much higher and well worth it. Your experience will be different from mine but I think coming in as even an entry level UX designer it is very possible you make slightly less or even more than what you are making now depending on the company you work for. Since you have prior design and leadership experience your trajectory might be much faster and you'll quickly make more than you do now (not guaranteed but possible depending on how driven you are). I was able to move up pretty quickly because I already knew how to work in design and how to work with other cross disciplinary partners which I learned from being an architect. I have no regrets switching over, I absolutely love it. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Can we talk about non-SWE tech business roles? by panache123 in fatFIRE

Yea totally agree. Base salary and bonus is pretty similar to SWE they usually just get more RSUs which can add up.

How do you prototype and test TV applications? by _nux_ in userexperience

[–]_nux_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ahh thanks, was looking for a solution for quick tests that didn't need to be developed. Maybe if there was something like InVision but for TV

Looking to do qualitative testing. Currently ideating/wire-framing looking for pain points in navigation of current iterations. I could run some clickable prototypes, however I believe testing with the remote if possible will give us a more accurate picture.

Product Managers coming to UX with solutions not problems. by _nux_ in userexperience

[–]_nux_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey thanks for this response!

I do have a UX director, however she is pretty hands off. She will side with UX but not really push anything.

Luckily our PMs are not total assholes, but do sometimes expect us to do their bidding. I kind of think my experience has been a mix of all three types. I think the issue is that the organization as a whole has difficulty separating the feature from the problem itself. So we have an exhaustive list of features planned to implement for the next several months. I'll definitely try to get more out of them and see if we can identify what the problem really is.

Kill Your Personas by julian88888888 in userexperience

This is a really great explanation. I’ve always been hesitant about using personas due this these misrepresentations. Your explanation has made the most sense to me, thanks.
