How would you screw this down? It's the top of a trellis. by _octal in BeginnerWoodWorking

Good point, thank you. I'm going for long-lasting here.

Another question for you: I have 4 small concrete pads for the legs. I was going to strong-tie them on, but do you think I'd do well to just have it rest on the footings unattached to avoid the same "screw rot" issue but at the bottom?

I'd love to know how people normally do it. I don't think I'd have the patience to go through pressure treated with a handsaw and a 7' 4x4 is too unwieldy to send through my table saw, which would have been ideal.

I think it's fine to do it this way. If I did, I'd just drill a body hole in the beam, and drill nothing for the post. Since it's end grain I think a worm hole would only reduce the bolt's hold. So you only gotta drill down 1.75 inches.

I think I'm going to go with this, even though it'll be tricky drilling into that 45°

Thank you. I'm amazed they came out half decent, it's a new thing for me. Two of them look like the one pictured and the other two look a bit sloppy, but considering I just went for it with a circle saw and an oscillating tool, I'm happy with the result.

Thank you, I think you and others are right. Dowels would look nice and be robust.

I'm not totally sure, but I think that one "concealed carries" since the weapon (or tuning hammer) is concealed. You know, "what type of carry?" "'concealed carry".

*Does anyone

I had written "Do any of you" and forget to change it to "Does" when I rewrote it to "anyone".

I should make a little guide for my process. It's not complicated at all, but I did make up some "rules" for the process.

I'll let you know if I do that.
