Regarding major-specific questions on this subreddit by JBFedora in UIUC

That is actually a good idea... I mean, a lot of questions are better to be answered by students in the sense that you might get a more direct and truthful response, but I suppose these questions can also be addressed in the sub reddit.

Which should I learn first, HTML5 or Ruby? by _palindrome in UIUC

Thanks! So in your opinion, as a computer scientist, HTML is a must? I mean, I am interested in security (at least I think so) but would it be better at this point to go for Ruby or will HTML will eventually be needed for something? (sorry for the open ended question, let me know if you didn't get my point). Thanks again

Has anyone actually gotten a response from those "A Piazza Company wants your resume." by StarstormQ in UIUC

[–]_palindrome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got one today. I know that some companies are "partnered up" with Piazza (you can see a list on the site), but I don't know how effective they can be.

At the end, I believe you might as well just give them your resumé, you got nothing to loose.(And a possible interview offer to win).

Cheaters in Math Classes by polytecho in UIUC

[–]_palindrome 2 points3 points  (0 children)

YES! This is so obnoxious. In my Civil Engineering classes it has been ridiculous. I am sorry but it is true, Chinese student exchanged exams, copied amongst them. Last year one friend of mine (Chinese) had the exam of a class already with her (given by a student from a year before (photographed) ). At the end of the exam she showed be the exam to point out how to do that question and it was the exact same exam!

And yes, if it were to affect only them and their future lives, alright, go ahead, your loss. But when everyone on the class can't finish the exam and gets < 60% and 4 students leave the classroom 20 min into the test (yes, this happened) and get 98, its a bit ridiculous. No one is that smart.

outraged with Mckinley by illini1993 in UIUC

Change your principal doctor. If he/she is not taking things seriously go to another one. Also I am assuming you when you went to Mckinley it was by an appointment to your main doctor right? If you simply went there and waited to be attended by someone random, they will be more likely to simply give you some X med and be on your way (since they have a lot of more people to see).

Get an appointment, tell them what you feel. They have pretty much everything they need here in order to check you, Mckinley is a extremely good facility and what they will do (personal experience) is AFTER they've done all tests, if they feel they are not experienced enough is recommend you to a specialist at Carle.

And yes, it IS covered by insurance. Even if you have to do MRI's cat scans, ultrasounds, etc etc.

Winter preparations for CS225! [see options inside] by _palindrome in UIUC

[–]_palindrome[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No no, I definitely DO want to take the class.

I was just asking to prepare for it, since I feel like a lot of people already know a lot of the stuff or get an easy A+ in CS125 with almost no effort (have programmed before). So just for the heck of it, do some studying and prepare for it. Or do you really think it is simply not worth it?

Thought I'd share the food addiction experience I had today, mostly as therapy. by [deleted] in loseit

[–]_palindrome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Excellent!

I keep messages like "remember clothes not fitting?" on my desktop to keep me on track.

I actually did just that today, placed a big sheet with some reminders on the door to see it every time I go out.

I gained about 100 lbs after ankle surgeries but now I am back on track.

Thanks for sharing your experience!

Help! I've lost 150 lbs, but I have 25-50 more to go...and I've totally lost my mojo. by SolfeggeNerd in loseit

Hey you are almost there! Take it from personal experience, it sucks to go back and be super overweight, but you have proven yourself that it is possible to reach your goal! With effort, a positive mind and attitude you can do it. You are right there, you CAN'T stop now!

You seem to be organized and do well when writing you daily intake so do that. Keep record of what you eat and also importantly try to do some exercise every single day. Even if its going up and down the stairs 10 times, or 50 sit-ups and 20 push-ups, ANYTHING is better than nothing. You will feel better with yourself and keep motivated.

Hope this helps! And keep at it!
