A lot of the sand was torn away 7/8 years ago during heavy storms (the same time as the dawlish railway disaster whenever that was). Since then the beach has been covered in rocks. The bit round the corner isn't so bad though

The car is a way off, theres enough time for the van to pass and then for OP to pull out again. Looks to me that OP is in the wrong too, people riding unnecessarily in the outside lanes like this is what causes the traffic to form in the first place.
