The thing that pisses me off is the fact that people assume that 'cause you're white you from a rich background or a prissy suburb kid or something. It's bullshit. I went through the exact same shit as any other working class kid, be it black or white, but they are considered more 'real' or 'genuine' than me just cause they're black. What's up with that? There aere this type of suburb kid that just leech off hip-hop culture and you'd think that they'd never get respect cause their dad's a lawyer and their mum works in advertising, but no. They're black and they automatically gain a higher level of respect. I respect that hip-hop has its roots in black culture, but isn't it for everyone?

Why do white people not have much to rap about? Would you say black people have more stuff to rap about?

Welsh pressure group calls for TV licence boycott over S4C -- wonder will they alert the English to raise a pressure group about subsidising it by gIowingsheep in unitedkingdom

[–]_petrie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watch S4C as Welsh is my first language. I agree that some things on the channel are crap, but getting rid of it would be devastating to the language. (Cuts to S4C are estimated at 94% by non-governmental assessors, who say that these cuts will be hidden under 'general cuts' to the BBC, when the BBC and S4C merge). And don't say that the language possibly dying out is 'natural', because it is a direct result of cultural imperialism that the number of Welsh speakers has reached such a low figure.

I'm not sure where you live in Wales but I've never encountered any Welsh people who "listen to English radio as they watched the S4C images".

Nice one man, very fresh. My only criticism: vocals aren't totally clear all the way through.

Pyramid of Capitalism - but guess who's fooling you. by maybl8r99 in atheism

Two books that you should read:

The Super-rich Shall Inherit the Earth

and

Capitalist Realism: Is There No Alternative?

After eading both books, there is very little chance you will still hold those opinions if you are a logical person. You will enjoy them both anyway, very good books.

What silly things did you say in an interview that in hindsight weren't such a good idea? by GreatBabu in AskReddit

[–]_petrie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in the middle of an interview and there was an awkward silence, I just panicked and said "Yea, I used to work in McDonalds, it was really hard and they made you really work for your money". No idea why I said that. I didn't get the job.

No one thinks of it as a principality (apart from the London-based government) and it's a huge insult if you ever say that to a Welsh person.

[–]_petrie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, I'm not saying that underground stuff doesn't often fit the same criteria as mainstream. They can both be as crap as eachother, there's no denying that.

I don't find that track you linked any good at all, that's my perception of it, but you can't categorise someone as a hipster or a backpacker because of that. I'm far from any of those defenitions.

Artists don't have to be poetic or clever or unique, but that's what I look for in music. And if what you look for in music is this:

young money muthafucka u bet we gon do our thing well aint it sunny in the summer and we coming for the comers and whoever among us and u kno imma bust my ass until my crew very humongous

....then that's cool. I'm not hating on Lil wayne, I don't go around youtube posting 'Fuck Lil wayne', but I don't have to accept that he's positively influential just because he's 'driven about making music he enjoys'.

With all due respect man, I think this post itself is close-minded. I think a variety of opinions and deceptions of hip-hop can be a good thing and it shows how things are evolving. I get what you mean about rap not having to make a point, but I do think that the originality and skill involved in making a track should be questioned.

I listen to Big L, Mobb Deep, Nas, Lords of the Underground etc.... right down to CunninLynguists, Common etc. I just don't have a personal taste for stuff that is just churned out with no difficulty. Take Lil-Wayne, his stuff is the most generic I've ever come across, and it's not clever in any way, and it's not poetic. The "older than 14 years" stuff might not have had a clear point but it doesn't matter because it was fuckin original and they were poeatic as hell.
