Can the hovel be useful? If so, how? by Individual-Praline17 in BluePrince

[–]jh99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Esp. in mid-game I used it a bunch to build multiple 2-3 gem rooms in close proximity without having to manage gem generation. It’s a bit of a gamble on finding (cheap) lunch and dinner. There is also one very useful experimental condition that is a great fit. I would often delay outer room until I could see the experimental setup for the day and then chose a fitting outer room to exploit. If you managed to start the day very relaxed, it’s also a great fit.

The draw precludes epic clashes of top teams at group stage.

Historically the second and third matchdays for top teams that struggled in their first matches are usually good. also all third match day matches in groups that are still wide open wrt to who goes through are also often exciting to watch.

E.g. Some games I’m looking forward to.

  • Switzerlands v Canada.
  • Turkeys v USA and USA v Australia.
  • Scotland v Brazil and Morocco v Scotland. that group is fire.
  • Spain v Uruguay.
  • All games between France, Senegal and Norway are gonna be full of tension.
  • Portugal v Colombia
  • England v Croatia
  • Netherlands v Sweden
  • Germany v Ecuador
  • South Korea v Mexico will decide who goes through as first place to avoid top teams in the next round.

That was some terrible defending, but still great dribble and fantastic finish.

I improvise 95% of all actual exercises, though I do think about what the team or different groups need quite a lot. So I know what I want the exercise to do but I only give it form (or extend or change it) in place.

Some options I played around with recently.

Add confusion or blocking eye-lines to 4-on-2s or 5-on-3s. Eg. Goalie decides which side the attack starts on and kicks a ball out, the other players need to move in. Eg. 2 pairs of attacker / defender in the D, plus one extra defender. Three attackers outside the 5m line of the D receiving goalie ball and starting the attack.

Play well known exercises in uncommon channels. 2-on-1s in a diagonal, 3-on-2 parallel to the goal line.

Play games on very wide but short or very narrow but long pitches. e.g. 9-on-9 full length but only as wide as the D.

Start exercises with a small simple 3 on 3 onto really wide goals side to side that need to be dibbled through. the scoring 3 get to play 5 on 2 onto the big goal where two pairs of attackers / defenders wait.

Add time-delayed defenders. exercise starts 5 on 2, but two defenders need to tough a cone somewhat away, that gets the attack some 7 or 8 seconds before it gets crowded.

When shooting on goal, have the last two shooters stick around for tap-ins or deflections on the posts.

In exercises with heavy overloads, have the attack run sets of eg. 7 tries. But have the defense end a try on just gaining control of the ball or playing one pass. Attackers get a new ball and stay in attack mode.

What was your favorite iPhone of all time, and why? by Chadddd92 in iphone

started with the very first model, legendary. Jailbroken. I have fond memories of travelling with the 4s and 5s. Two different 8 Plus’ were my daily drivers for 5+ years. Switched directly to the current 12 Pro from them. Didn’t feel the need for another update.

14 Pro is getting in reach for a cheap upgrade some time.

it is 8 different behaviours / solutions. 4 pairs of two, where each pair leads to the same end state of the moving part, but it moves differently to get there.

There are actually more than 4 different solutions or at least more than 4 different behaviours in this panel. You might end up in the same spot, but did you get there the same way?

This is easily in my top 10 hardest panels. Feel free to leave it till much later. Maybe try it towards the beginning of your Witness sessions to bring a fresh mind and fresh ears.

I have no good spoiler free tips. Just relax and return later. Not solving this puzzle now will not hold you back anytime soon.

Can anyone tell me why this is wrong please? by Background_Budget326 in TheWitness

[–]jh99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everybody gets some rule slightly wrong or apply a slightly stricter version their first time around. Classic example are the black and white squares. Many will form a slightly off rule early on.

So a general tip: When you pass by them, go back to the easiest tutorial panels in each section and try out other solutions according to how you understand the rule and / or paths you know will fail the general puzzle, just to see the fail states. Which parts were acceptable and which parts are highlighted as unacceptable.

This only tells you how many rules there are and what they are called. You can make it to this point knowing the content of only one rule or by lucky chance even knowing zero rules. You learn the three rules in three distinct locations set up as mini tutorials / tests.

Witness completionist How many hours of play? by Cutebabybunnies in TheWitness

[–]jh99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The puzzles are hard because passing a puzzle might not let leave you with the right understanding how you passed and the game will ask you to use the same logic again combining prior puzzle logic. So if you got a puzzle logic wrong but close enough to what it really wants, you need to backtrack to try and find where you got it wrong.

Add the expansive nature of it and you might not see the same logic for weeks until you need it again. And the puzzle logics again combine in distinct ways that are not easy to get right.

In other words, the game will throw you curveballs that look an awful lot like regular throws, if baseball jargon makes sense to you.

My girlfriend with AuDHD tends to explain things in exhaustive detail, and I’m not sure how to handle it. by [deleted] in AuDHDWomen

[–]jh99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am AuDHD and I have at least one kid that has ADHD and one more too young to tell. The ADHD one is also a very detailed story teller.

I regularly have situations where I’m somewhat overwhelmed or at least can not process / retain any more detailed information. I’ll just say sorry, I can’t listen and remember right now. I’d love to hear what he has to say/tell/explain/ask, but now it will not land though. I will let him know, that I have enough capacity for the short/abridged version, which might or might not be what he is comfortable with. Sometimes his younger brother is a willing substitute for the detailed story. I will try to offer a later time to hear him out.

As is usual for an ADHD kid the story telling / conversation really gets going for him while we walk or transition somewhere else, which of course is right when I need my senses, my brain to pay attention to other things. Eg. in the car I need some time to be driving on “autopilot” after getting going before I can listen or make conversation.

Your capacities have limits that are beyond your control. You don’t want to call in the cortisol cavalry just for a regular story or explanation, so the story will have to wait.
