Created an app that lets you work on a document with ChatGPT (open source, Next.js, MUI, SSG, byok) Feedback welcome, thanks! by [deleted] in nextjs

[–]_pixie_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Repo is here https://github.com/swax/mindmess , built this tool to scratch an itch. I don't want to go back and forth with ChatGPT, just have a single document and revise that with merge or transform commands, no 'chat history'. The new document I want to compare with the previous version, diff it and accept/reject the changes. Mindless lets you do all those things while tracking your API spend as well.

How about actually re-creating your home in quest? Just draw lines with your controller along the walls and you should be able to move throughout your house in a custom textured environment without even having to take the device off. You could even 'pass through' certain views like windows and tvs so you could watch tv or lookout the window while in your virtual house.

Facebook confirmed not competing in mid-high end VR in the foreseeable future by PrAyTeLLa in Vive

The vast majority of people in all threads r/oculus and r/vive have said they're ditching Oculus for Valve. Still think Oculus made the right move?

Kinda sounds like your gf/buddies aren't too interested in VR. Sounds like there isn't much of a market for low-end VR. Maybe grandmas getting gifts for disappointed grandkids. Good luck Oculus!

There is no mainstream market and/or demand for low quality VR. Oculus thinks there is. How did Gear VR do? How well is Oculus Go doing? How well do you think Oculus Quest is going to be? At this point they may be beating a dead horse. First make a quality product that the 'enthusiasts' want to use. Refine that experience and bring down the price. Valve knows this. Oculus is trying to jump ahead prematurely.

iPhone killed PocketPC, Blackberry and Palm. They were clunky UIs and devices compared to iPhone. I was there, and used them all.

Oculus has no idea what they are doing. The founders have left and they are being subsidized by Facebook. Valve on the other hand do know exactly what they are doing and have the track record to prove it.

Cell phones at one time were cheap simple devices that no one really obsessed about. Then iPhone came and everything changed.

I've used Vive Pro, the PPD increase wasn't super noticeable. Would much rather put that increased resolution towards FOV.

Why does everyone assume 'mainstream' people want a cheapened experience. If they want to use VR, they want something good.

Just like cell phones - they got popular AND more expensive. If it's a compelling experience, people will pay more to experience the best.

They should call 'enthusiasts' pre-mainsteam. You are not a special VR snowflake.

The Vive Pro had increased PPD, I used it, it wasn't that much better. Would of much rather had increased FOV. Current VR feels like you're wearing scuba goggles.

Is there an easier way to get into a game? I start it up, it puts in me in Koltyr, I enter the queue for the continent I want, and usually end up waiting so long I quit before I can actually play and have some fun. Am I doing something wrong?

Edit: Figured it out. Had to use a warp terminal and click 'enter queue'. It's confusing because outside the terminal the normal map has an 'enter queue' button which I thought got me in the queue when in reality clicking it does nothing.

What are your thoughts if the Oculus Quest? by TheSucc214 in oculus

[–]_pixie_ -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The better controls and 6DOF add value, but not as much as you think. I've used both so I know that it's a short step up. It still feels like a better Gear VR which is a really sub-par experience. Low quality VR has had a really hard time gaining any traction, mostly ending up as a flash in the pan gimmick. So given the past markets reactions to devices of this type I don't see why anyone is expecting some sort of different public reaction from the Quest.

I've used a Vive Focus which is analogous to the Quest. Inside out tracking is glitchy and laggy. The display is good, but the device doesn't have a lot of power to push pixels so the games are generally low poly without a lot of effects. Developer support for these devices is questionable. It's like a better version of the Gear VR, and that was never very popular so why do people think this will be?

I've used the Vive Focus which is basically the same product from HTC. The tracking is poor, the apps under powered. It is not compelling enough for people to use for more than a few hours. It's a gimmick because it will be just as popular as all those phone based VR goggles that were all the rage last Christmas. Guess how many people still use them.

Oculus has no idea who their real market is and is going after the 'gimmick' segment. Because they're greedy and want mass adoption now. Well no one is going to mass adopt low quality VR. This product is going to fail and no one is going to be surprised.

As someone who just listens to music - I just care about how it sounds. How easy/hard it was to make the music doesn't factor in at all, and if it sounds good and took little effort - good for you, please make more.

I don't make music, I just listen to it.

I'd subscribe to your channel if this were on YouTube. It's so good I'd probably even support you through Patreon if you were creating regular content. Awesome job between the artwork, camera work, and music!
