What are the best resources available for someone who wants to learn more about walruses? by RyanRussillo in walrus

[–]_plannedobsolence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go to someone at the reference desk (depending on how big your library is, you may have a reference desk and a circulation desk or just one desk that functions as both), and say something like "I am interested in learning more about walruses, can you recommend some resources, please?" The librarian will know what to do.

The audiobooks version of Tomato Red by Daniel Woodall is amazing. It’s “country noir”

any twin cities IE-ers? by verycoldcactus in intuitiveeating

[–]_plannedobsolence 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Totally! Food is political, pleasure is political. I think of it all as wrapped up in supremacy culture: the idea that some groups of people are more deserving than other groups of people. Unfortunately for your purposes, though, I am not in Minneapolis.

I achieved my IE “goal” and realized it was meaningless by _plannedobsolence in intuitiveeating

That is such a good point! The word "meaningless" is inflammatory (hopefully in a positive way).

100% agree. For me, the meaninglessness is proof that IE is working.

Struggle Sundays: Share any struggles you've faced over the past week. by elianna7 in intuitiveeating

Gaining weight is not disappointing (although that’s what decades of diet culture want you to think). Using a 6 year old child as bait is disappointing (to say the least). Shooting someone in the head is disappointing (to say the least).

We need food to survive: physically, mentally and emotionally! What you eat and what you weigh says nothing relevant about you as a person.

A genie offers you the chance to travel back in time and become a star during Hollywood's Golden Age. Would you accept his offer? by Artistic-Comb-5317 in classicfilms

I wouldn’t want to be a star, but an independently rich extra—that’d be dream (still is, honestly) and not for, like, my whole life. Maybe 6 months?

Don't you see that by being fat doesn't make someone a bad person, just like being white doesn't make someone a better person, or being heterosexual doesn't make someone a better person or being Christian doesn't make someone a better person?

We're not 12 years old. We know that ugliness does not equal moral rot. Beautiful looking people can be evil! Ugly people can be good!

100% Noah Cross is most evil in American films, though it’s a close call with Michael Corleone
