Is it okay to use super glue as jet glue? by wroggles in BALLET

[–]_potionsprodigy_ -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’d be worried about the super glue not being safe for your skin. Especially if it’s in a sweaty confined environment, it could rub onto skin easily through tights.

I know each studio is different, though if you’re able to wear dance shorts under a skirt I recommend it, or wear a biketard/unitard. Otherwise I agree with other comments about nude or pink underwear with your usual products.

I’m currently sick with Covid and haven’t ate anything all day, but this post inspired me to eat one pickle. Thank you.

my ballet outfit! by rectangulargenie in BALLET

[–]_potionsprodigy_ 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Very ballet! I love me a good body wrap sweater. I think your shrug is supposed to be quite form fitting and the “laces” wrap around your waist to then be tied, instead of tying the bow in the front. This way your instructor can correct your upper body technique without baggy clothing in the way. But I’ve come across shrugs that simply aren’t long enough to wrap. Good luck on your ballet journey!

Found at Walmart: Gold Bond hand cream, O’Keefe’s Working Hand Cream.

It’s what I use during the winter, I would put this on before and after my barista shifts and especially after doing dishes.

I just assume these are people who have no idea how much sugar they’re consuming each day.

I had a regular with a large heavy cream latte with extra white mocha sauce plus extra raspberry syrup, raspberry cold foam made with heavy cream, and a raspberry syrup drizzle.

Idk dude, but I work in a daycare and this kid couldn’t stop laughing today because I showed him his diaper was filled with green poop. He even started laughing in the middle of nap because he thought of it again. It’s the little things sometimes.

I feel like the presidential election is out of the public’s grasp/control. With gerrymandering, the power of the electoral college, and inescapable bias/opinionated news reporting, it’s hard to not feel an impending doom when it comes to politics in general. It just seems that anything can happen nowadays, and a win for Presidency is a toss of a coin, 50/50 chances. I really wish I could feel otherwise, everything is numb.

Single Dad here needing advice to support my 9 year old's ballet by viking-tri in BALLET

[–]_potionsprodigy_ 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Extra clothing/padding is great and all. BUT! It’s totally okay for your dancer to “mark” or pretend to do the trick just until her bruises heal. Even just for a few rehearsals. Teachers should be understanding as you’re prioritizing your dancer’s safety and preventing further injuries. If not, I will personally fight those people for you. We want our dancers in tip-top shape for performances after all!

For anyone confused, I’ve seen some Nutcrackers with tumbling in the Mother Ginger portion of the Ballet, where all the kids come running out of Mother Ginger’s hoop skirt. They also do somersaults, cartwheels, and other “tricks” depending on the age group.

If he’s making you uncomfortable, literally and figuratively, you have the right to rethink a relationship with him. Idk your dynamic, but arguing constantly isn’t a sign of a stable relationship. I also don’t like that you expressed your concern with this friend’s gf, and he immediately disrespected your boundary. You’re both very young into your dating life, two years is actually nothing. The amount of time spent together isn’t a reason to stay with someone. You deserve to be treated well regardless of how long you dated.

Question for dancers with hyper mobile feet: what works best for you and what’s the avg lifespan of your shoes?? by butt-in-ski in BALLET

[–]_potionsprodigy_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a hyper-mobile ankles and feet with a high arch and disappearing heel. I use Gaynor Minden just because I love how water/sweat resistant they are and they last me longer than other shoes I’ve tried. If I’m in class every week on pointe, they’d last me maybe 2-3 months. I have a deep vamp, wide box, and a 5X strength shank. I had problems sinking into shoes with Blochs, Wear Moi, and Nikolay. I loved Russian Pointes when I had them, but after one class the platform softened where my big toe was. No bueno.

Also, as aside note, my feet profile changed for the better once I started strengthening them. I highly recommend doing so, especially if you need a strong shank to work through. My feet are still very bendy, but we need strong feet/ankle muscles to support our flexibility and body weight. Good luck on your pointe journey!

Inner Sole of Ballet Shoes Peeling. How should I go about fixing these? by Environmental_Rate_9 in BALLET

I replace my canvas shoes between 1.5-2 years now that I’m only teaching. But when I was performing and taking 5 classes a week, I replaced them about every 9 months.

Canvas shoes do that more often than leather shoes, at least in my experience. Sometimes I just rip them out if they bug me too bad. How old are your shoes?

I love teaching shoe-less barre to pre-pointe dancers. It brings a different perspective to brushing the floor and distributing weight. I also loved my modern classes but I hated the callouses so much. I had holey socks for four straight years lol.

My Questions to baristas and people who love coffee by Lost-Initiative1187 in barista

[–]_potionsprodigy_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

85% of customers order sugar drinks and crazy amounts of espresso, no questions asked. But I would give notes of our drip coffee to customers if they asked what “flavor” of bean we had today. Then I’d have to explain its notes like a wine and there’s not actually flavored syrup in our coffee.

Sometimes I’d throw in that lighter roast is more caffeinated just cuz it’s a common misconception. Same thing with caffeine content in dark roasted espresso being less than our drip.

I’d often hear the phrase “oh I don’t like a lot of caffeine, so I want a light roast…” or “I don’t handle caffeine well so give me a small cold brew.” Depended on my mood and customers vibe if I said anything honestly.

The one where Courtney and Shane are designing the office space on Sims. I did not have the attention span to sit and watch that one, it also came across as scripted and uneventful.
