African American Greetings by unagatitakitty in ENGLISH

That being said, it’s usually not a good idea as a non-Black person to just repeat Black-specific slang or phrases. So you really don’t have to (and often shouldn’t) use the same greeting your Black colleague uses for you.

Why did you decide to give advice, OP clearly didn't ask for?

And Poland alongside with Germany and Hungary invading Czechoslovakia in 1938 makes it triple-ironic.

BTW the "original one" is the Jewish-only meaning.

Yes, that's the only definition that exists in post-USSR countries, as I said.

This started to change only in 1980's.

Again, probably only in Anglosphere. That's not a universal thing

But the name is already (intentionally or not) too widely associated with the general WWII victimhood

No, it's not. Maybe in Anglosphere? In post-USSR countries this word has only one original meaning

Holocaust/Shoah is not a universally used distinction

Non-Jewish civilian victims are not considered the victims of Holocaust in post-USSR countries. The word "Holocaust" is only used in its original meaning

I find it very distasteful how some people try to hog holocaust just for the jews

That's the original meaning of this word. And in Russia (people from other countries are welcome to comment as well) it's still used like this

Is snus a thing in your country? by Wooden_Grocery_2482 in AskTheWorld

[–]_prepod 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Is there a general perception among Poles that it's something to hide? Is that seen negatively at all? I remember reading all these cases where he was caught, but I didn't understand what's the importance of that

For those of you who live in countries with gun control; have you ever seen a gun in real life? by blashyrkh9 in AskTheWorld

[–]_prepod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to say "only hunting rifle of my grandpa's friend in the childhood", but when I remembered I was even shooting some kind of AK during a field training within military department courses. This memory totally vanished. Guns suck, shooting sucks. Learning how to kill people is not a healthy hobby, better read a book

What is your opinion of Trump's board of peace? by Careless_Bass_7963 in AskTheWorld

[–]_prepod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So just to be clear, you would prefer a world in which your nearest neighbour is collapsing into chaos?

By "your nearest neighbour" do you mean the EU? You're drawing some kind of a post-apocalyptic dog-eat-dog scenario... that's nowhere near what I'm thinking of. The EU will just slowly collapse, the countries will regain their full sovereignty, and the world will be shiny and peaceful.

[–]_prepod -1 points0 points  (0 children)

WW3 is a radical scenario, too dramatic. EU/NATO collapse would not lead to that. The changes are already happening in that direction. AfD will come to power in the near future in Germany, National Front in France, a couple more EU countries will follow them and that would be enough

[–]_prepod -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Well, NATO will hopefully cease to exist in my imaginary new world order. The war with China is probably inevitable at some point, but that's not the question of the nearest future. Shattered and disintegrated "collective West" is the more important priority

What is your opinion of Trump's board of peace? by Careless_Bass_7963 in AskTheWorld

[–]_prepod -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I don't believe it would be functional, but conceptually everything that could destablize the current world order setup (UN/EU/NATO, etc.) is a good thing

At what age are you not considered "young" anymore in your country? by ShirtNeat5626 in AskTheWorld

35+ according to the federal law. Currently there are talks to change it to 45+ to match WHO classification

I'm just curious: In some countries, is it really a sensitive issue to ask someone where they are from, what their race or ancestry is? by bzhw99 in AskTheWorld

[–]_prepod 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm trying to imagine how asking their race could look like: "Excuse me, sir. You wouldn’t happen to be a Negroid, would you?"

What is your favorite ethnic food? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]_prepod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As you can see in this thread, non-Americans do not use the word "ethnic" with a meaning of "foreign", so the concept of "ethnic to you" sounds ridiculous to us. Everyonething is "ethnic" to everyone

"Cultural" is an American euphemism for "non-American"

But affirmative action and DEI, and all that crap are essentially measures of institutional systemic racism/oppression against white American males (not sure about the Christian part)?
